Book Computation of Viscous Inviscid Interactions

Book excerpt: This symposium was consequently organized to review the search for coupling procedures. It appears that the situation is quite satisfactory for 2D flows. Very good correlations can be found between the computational results and the experiments provided that the methods include the wake displacement and curvature effects, and adequate treatment of the trailing edge region and of the shock boundary layer interactions. If so, useful and reliable tools are available for engineering purposes. However, the agreement generally deteriorates with the extension of separated regions or when the shock intensity increases and further improvements are still needed, for example, for single or multielement airfoils near maximum lift or at high Mach numbers. In addition it must be stressed that the quality and the accuracy of the experimental data become questionable as the capability of the computational methods to adequately describe more and more complex situations increases. Therefore precise and reliable code validation requires more and more well documented benchmark data. For 3D configurations, the work is much less advanced; only a few studies have been made and a lot of work has still to be done, especially in the transonic regime. However, the first results obtained using the ideas which have proven to be efficient in 2D are encouraging. The problem of separation with formation and rolling-up of vortex sheets which is specific to 3D flows is of primary importance and the studies already made on this subject will have to be pursued and extended in the compressible and transonic regime. Finally, it has been recorded that the need for detailed benchmark experiments is even greater in 3D than in 2D.

Book excerpt: The report describes a theoretical and experimental investigation of the effect of wall cooling on the overall features of shock wave laminar boundary layer interactions in hypersonic two dimensional flow. The integral method of Lees-Reeves-Klineberg has been modified in order to compute viscous interactions over a continuous range of wall-to-stagnation temperature ratios using a single set of 'universal' integral functions. Comparisons between the theoretical predictions and the experimental results obtained from pressure and heat transfer distribution measurements show satisfactory agreements. Book Viscous inviscid Interaction in Transonic Flow

Download or read book Viscous inviscid Interaction in Transonic Flow written by Laurence Byron Wigton and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this thesis is to couple an inviscid two dimensional steady transonic flow calculation with a boundary layer calculation. This interaction is especially important in transonic problems since the boundary layer has a significant effect on the inviscid portion of the flow. Here, the inviscid solution is obtained by an algorithm developed for the full potential equation by Holst and Ballhaus while the attached and separated turbulent boundary layer calculations are performed by Green's lag entrainment method. Guided by a model problem suggested by Le Balleur, a viscous-inviscid coupling algorithm is developed. Theoretical analysis indicates that it coverages rapidly for attached flows ad also performs well for separated flows. These conclusions are confirmed through a series of challenging transonic calculations involving both attached and separated flows. The coupling algorithm is remarkably stable and allows computation of coupled viscous-inviscid flows within times required to perform the inviscid calculations by themselves. (Author).

Book Computation of Transonic Viscous Inviscid Interacting Flow

Download or read book Computation of Transonic Viscous Inviscid Interacting Flow written by D. L. Whitfield and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transonic viscous-inviscid interaction is considered using the Euler and inverse compressible turbulent boundary-layer equations. Certain improvements in the inverse boundary-layer method are mentioned, along with experiences in using various Runge-Kutta schemes to solve the Euler equations. Numerical conditions imposed on the Euler equations at a surface for viscous-inviscid interaction using the method of equivalent sources are developed, and numerical solutions are presented and compared with experimental data to illustrate essential points. This book was released on 2018-11 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a method for calculating viscous effects in two- and three-dimensional unsteady transonic flow fields. An integral boundary-layer method for turbulent viscous flow is coupled with the transonic small-disturbance potential equation in a quasi-steady manner. The viscous effects are modeled with Green's lag-entrainment equations for attached flow and an inverse boundary-layer method for flows that involve mild separation. The boundary-layer method is used stripwise to approximate three-dimensional effects. Applications are given for two-dimensional airfoils, aileron buzz, and a wing planform. Comparisons with inviscid calculations, other viscous calculation methods, and experimental data are presented. The results demonstrate that the present technique can economically and accurately calculate unsteady transonic flow fields that have viscous-inviscid interactions with mild flow separation.
