Book Computable a Posteriori L subscript Infinity Error Bounds for the Approximate Solution of Two Point Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Computable a Posteriori L subscript Infinity Error Bounds for the Approximate Solution of Two Point Boundary Value Problems written by Mary Anne McCarthy and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper the authors use the general theory of Newton's method for operator equations with functional constraints recently developed by Tapia and the Kantorovich theorem to construct (C sup 1) approximations to the solution and its derivative of the nonlinear two point boundary value problem and computable (L sub infinity) error bounds for both approximations. Several numerical examples for both boundary value and initial value problems are included. (Author).

Book A Posteriori Error Bounds for Two point Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book A Posteriori Error Bounds for Two point Boundary Value Problems written by Gershon Kedem and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is shown how one can bound a posteriori the error made in the numerical solution of the Two-Point Boundary Value Problem (TPBVP). The error bounds obtained are rigorous and include the truncation and the roundoff error. In addition, the computations establish the existence of solutions to the TPBVP.

Book A Posteriori Error Analysis Via Duality Theory

Download or read book A Posteriori Error Analysis Via Duality Theory written by Weimin Han and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-30 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides a posteriori error analysis for mathematical idealizations in modeling boundary value problems, especially those arising in mechanical applications, and for numerical approximations of numerous nonlinear var- tional problems. An error estimate is called a posteriori if the computed solution is used in assessing its accuracy. A posteriori error estimation is central to m- suring, controlling and minimizing errors in modeling and numerical appr- imations. In this book, the main mathematical tool for the developments of a posteriori error estimates is the duality theory of convex analysis, documented in the well-known book by Ekeland and Temam ([49]). The duality theory has been found useful in mathematical programming, mechanics, numerical analysis, etc. The book is divided into six chapters. The first chapter reviews some basic notions and results from functional analysis, boundary value problems, elliptic variational inequalities, and finite element approximations. The most relevant part of the duality theory and convex analysis is briefly reviewed in Chapter 2.

Book Global Solution Branches of Two Point Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Global Solution Branches of Two Point Boundary Value Problems written by Renate Schaaf and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-12-08 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with parameter dependent problems of the form u"+*f(u)=0 on an interval with homogeneous Dirichlet or Neuman boundary conditions. These problems have a family of solution curves in the (u,*)-space. By examining the so-called time maps of the problem the shape of these curves is obtained which in turn leads to information about the number of solutions, the dimension of their unstable manifolds (regarded as stationary solutions of the corresponding parabolic prob- lem) as well as possible orbit connections between them. The methods used also yield results for the period map of certain Hamiltonian systems in the plane. The book will be of interest to researchers working in ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations and various fields of applications. By virtue of the elementary nature of the analytical tools used it can also be used as a text for undergraduate and graduate students with a good background in the theory of ordinary differential equations.
