Book excerpt: LA COMPRESSION D'IMAGES NUMERIQUES EST UNE QUESTION QUI SE POSE DE PLUS EN PLUS AUJOURD'HUI, DU FAIT DU DEVELOPPEMENT DES COMMUNICATIONS ET DE L'AUGMENTATION CONSIDERABLE DES VOLUMES DE DONNEES A TRANSMETTRE OU A STOCKER (IMAGERIE MEDICALE, SATELLITAIRE,). IL EXISTE DE NOMBREUSES TECHNIQUES DE COMPRESSION PARMI LESQUELLES LA QUANTIFICATION DANS UN ESPACE TRANSFORME, QUI A PERMIS AU COURS DE CES DERNIERES ANNEES D'AUGMENTER DE FACON TRES SENSIBLE LES TAUX DE COMPRESSION. NOUS PROPOSONS ICI UN SCHEMA ASSOCIANT TRANSFORME EN ONDELETTE ET QUANTIFICATION VECTORIELLE ALGEBRIQUE (QVA) OU QUANTIFICATION VECTORIELLE SUR RESEAUX REGULIERS DE POINTS. LE TRAVAIL PRESENTE PORTE SUR LA QVA, POUR LAQUELLE UNE NOUVELLE METHODE D'INDEXAGE DES VECTEURS DU DICTIONNAIRE EST PROPOSEE. L'INDEXAGE EST UNE DIFFICULTE MAJEURE A L'UTILISATION DE LA QVA DANS UNE APPLICATION DE COMPRESSION. DIFFERENTES SOLUTIONS ANALYTIQUES ONT ETE DEVELOPPEES PAR DE NOMBREUX CHERCHEURS. NOUS PROPOSONS ICI UNE ALTERNATIVE BASEE SUR LA CONSTRUCTION D'UNE TABLE DE CORRESPONDANCE ET SUR L'UTILISATION DE CERTAINES PROPRIETES MATHEMATIQUES DES RESEAUX REGULIERS DE POINTS. LE CODAGE DES INDEX EST EFFECTUE A L'AIDE D'UN CODE PRODUIT. LES METHODES D'INDEXAGE NE PEUVENT CEPENDANT JAMAIS ETRE A LA FOIS FAIBLEMENT COUTEUSES EN DEBIT BINAIRE, EN COMPLEXITE DE CALCUL ET EN STOCKAGE. LA METHODE PROPOSEE PRIVILEGIE LE COUT CALCUL ET POSSEDE LES PERFORMANCES D'UN CODE ENTROPIQUE SANS EN AVOIR LES INCONVENIENTS. CES PERFORMANCES SONT EGALEMENT LIEES A LA FORME DU DICTIONNAIRE QUI EST ADAPTEE A LA STATISTIQUE DE LA SOURCE A COMPRIMER. A CET EGARD, NOUS AVONS EGALEMENT ETENDU L'UTILISATION DE LA METHODE A DES DICTIONNAIRES DE FORME ELLIPTIQUE POUR LE CODAGE DE SOURCES GAUSSIENNES AVEC MEMOIRE. ENFIN, LA METHODE PROPOSEE A ETE APPLIQUEE SUR DES DONNEES BRUTES ISSUES D'UN RADAR A SYNTHESE D'OUVERTURE (IMAGERIE SAR). LES PERFORMANCES OBTENUES EN TERMES DE DEBIT/DISTORSION, TANT SUR DES IMAGES GRAND PUBLIC QUE SUR DES IMAGES SAR, LAISSENT ENTREVOIR DE NOMBREUSES PERSPECTIVES, NOTAMMENT DANS LE DOMAINE DE L'IMAGERIE SATELLITAIRE

Book Structures and Irregularities in Image Processing and Analysis

Download or read book Structures and Irregularities in Image Processing and Analysis written by Jean-Luc Bouchot and published by Sudwestdeutscher Verlag Fur Hochschulschriften AG. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores novel representations and comparison tools for analyzing structures and irregularities in signals and images. In opposition to most methods, the ideas introduced here work at the pixel-level. Structures and irregularities are studied using approaches that stem from discrepancy theory, functional analysis and potential theory, and low-level signal processing. In particular we show that structure enhancing similarity measures or representations have advantages over usual tools for image comparison and analysis.

Book Humanizing Digital Reality

Download or read book Humanizing Digital Reality written by Klaas De Rycke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims at finding some answers to the questions: What is the influence of humans in controlling CAD and how much is human in control of its surroundings? How far does our reach as humans really go? Do the complex algorithms that we use for city planning nowadays live up to their expectations and do they offer enough quality? How much data do we have and can we control? Are today’s inventions reversing the humanly controlled algorithms into a space where humans are controlled by the algorithms? Are processing power, robots for the digital environment and construction in particular not only there to rediscover what we already knew and know or do they really bring us further into the fields of constructing and architecture? The chapter authors were invited speakers at the 6th Symposium "Design Modelling Symposium: Humanizing Digital Reality", which took place in Ensa-Versailles, France from 16 - 20 September 2017.

Book Fuzzy Logic with Engineering Applications

Download or read book Fuzzy Logic with Engineering Applications written by Timothy J. Ross and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-04-08 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuzzy logic refers to a large subject dealing with a set of methods to characterize and quantify uncertainty in engineering systems that arise from ambiguity, imprecision, fuzziness, and lack of knowledge. Fuzzy logic is a reasoning system based on a foundation of fuzzy set theory, itself an extension of classical set theory, where set membership can be partial as opposed to all or none, as in the binary features of classical logic. Fuzzy logic is a relatively new discipline in which major advances have been made over the last decade or so with regard to theory and applications. Following on from the successful first edition, this fully updated new edition is therefore very timely and much anticipated. Concentration on the topics of fuzzy logic combined with an abundance of worked examples, chapter problems and commercial case studies is designed to help motivate a mainstream engineering audience, and the book is further strengthened by the inclusion of an online solutions manual as well as dedicated software codes. Senior undergraduate and postgraduate students in most engineering disciplines, academics and practicing engineers, plus some working in economics, control theory, operational research etc, will all find this a valuable addition to their bookshelves.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis· seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) *at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac· tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 20 (thesis year 1975) a total of 10,374 theses titles from 28 Canadian and 239 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. The organization of Volume 20 is identical to that of past years. It consists of theses titles arranged by discipline and by university within each discipline.

Book Combinatorics and Finite Geometry

Download or read book Combinatorics and Finite Geometry written by Steven T. Dougherty and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-30 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This undergraduate textbook is suitable for introductory classes in combinatorics and related topics. The book covers a wide range of both pure and applied combinatorics, beginning with the very basics of enumeration and then going on to Latin squares, graphs and designs. The latter topic is closely related to finite geometry, which is developed in parallel. Applications to probability theory, algebra, coding theory, cryptology and combinatorial game theory comprise the later chapters. Throughout the book, examples and exercises illustrate the material, and the interrelations between the various topics is emphasized. Readers looking to take first steps toward the study of combinatorics, finite geometry, design theory, coding theory, or cryptology will find this book valuable. Essentially self-contained, there are very few prerequisites aside from some mathematical maturity, and the little algebra required is covered in the text. The book is also a valuable resource for anyone interested in discrete mathematics as it ties together a wide variety of topics.

Book Testing Techniques in Software Engineering

Download or read book Testing Techniques in Software Engineering written by Paulo Borba and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-07-07 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pernambuco School on Software Engineering (PSSE) 2007 was the second in a series of events devoted to the study of advanced computer science and to the promotion of international scienti?c collaboration. The main theme in 2007 was testing. Testing is nowadays a key activity for assuring software quality. The summer school and its proceedings were intended to give a detailed tutorial introduction to the scienti?c basis of this activity and its state of the art. Theseproceedingsrecordthecontributionsfromtheinvitedlecturers.Eachof thechaptersistheresultofathoroughrevisionoftheinitialnotesprovidedtothe participants of the school. The revision was inspired by the synergy generated by the opportunity for the lecturers to present and discuss their work among themselves and with the school’s attendees. The editors have tried to produce a coherent view of the topic by harmonizing these contributions, smoothing out di?erences in notation and approach, and providing links between the lectures. We apologize to the authors for any errors introduced by our extensive editing. Although the chapters are linked in severalways, each one is su?ciently se- contained to be read in isolation. Nevertheless, Chap. 1 should be read ?rst by those interested in an introduction to testing. Chapter 1 introduces the terminology adopted in this book. It also provides an overview of the testing process, and of the types (functional, structural, and so on)anddimensions(unit, integration, andsoon)ofthetestingactivity.Themain strategies employed in the central activity of test selection are also discussed. Most of the material presented in this introductory chapter is addressedin more depth in the following chapters.

Book Applied Econometrics with R

Download or read book Applied Econometrics with R written by Christian Kleiber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R is a language and environment for data analysis and graphics. It may be considered an implementation of S, an award-winning language initially - veloped at Bell Laboratories since the late 1970s. The R project was initiated by Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in the early 1990s, and has been developed by an international team since mid-1997. Historically, econometricians have favored other computing environments, some of which have fallen by the wayside, and also a variety of packages with canned routines. We believe that R has great potential in econometrics, both for research and for teaching. There are at least three reasons for this: (1) R is mostly platform independent and runs on Microsoft Windows, the Mac family of operating systems, and various ?avors of Unix/Linux, and also on some more exotic platforms. (2) R is free software that can be downloaded and installed at no cost from a family of mirror sites around the globe, the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN); hence students can easily install it on their own machines. (3) R is open-source software, so that the full source code is available and can be inspected to understand what it really does, learn from it, and modify and extend it. We also like to think that platform independence and the open-source philosophy make R an ideal environment for reproducible econometric research.
