Book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry

Download or read book Comprehensive Treatise of Electrochemistry written by John Bockris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now time for a comprehensive treatise to look at the whole field of electrochemistry. The present treatise was conceived in 1974, and the earliest invitations to authors for contributions were made in 1975. The completion of the early volumes has been delayed by various factors. There has been no attempt to make each article emphasize the most recent situation at the expense of an overall statement of the modern view. This treatise is not a collection of articles from Recent Advances in Electrochemistry or Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry. It is an attempt at making a mature statement about the present position in the vast area of what is best looked at as a new interdisciplinary field. Texas A & M University J. O'M. Bockris University of Ottawa B. E. Conway Case Western Reserve University Ernest Yeager & M University Texas A Ralph E. White Preface to Volume 2 This volume brings together some dozen processes well known to the electro chemist and treats them according to their various degrees of importance. The production of hydrogen is one of the more important processes, particularly with respect to the prospects of a hydrogen economy. No one would doubt, however, that the most commercially important electrochemical processes at the present time are the production of aluminum and of chlorine. Each of these processes has a separate chapter devoted to it.

White Preface to VoluIJJe 8 The past three decades have seen the rapid evolution of the transport aspects of electrochemical engineering into a formal part of electrochemistry as well as chemical engineering. With minor exceptions, however, this subject has not been systematically covered in any treatise or recent electrochemical text. The editors believe that the treatment in this volume will serve the function.

Book Handbook of Self Cleaning Surfaces and Materials

Download or read book Handbook of Self Cleaning Surfaces and Materials written by Akira Fujishima and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-05-03 with total page 1098 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Self-Cleaning Surfaces and Materials The first truly comprehensive work on this rapidly developing field in two volumes Self-cleaning surfaces are those that can be cleaned, for instance, by sun or rainwater, without human intervention. They are sometimes found in nature but developing man-made equivalents has been a major area of nanotechnology research in recent years. Self-cleaning tiles, glasses, paints, and textiles have been developed to date, and the number of applications for this technology is growing. Handbook of Self-Cleaning Surfaces and Materials provides a comprehensive overview of this field of study. It includes two volumes, with the first presenting the basic principles of the field and the second supplying specific examples and applications. It is a one-stop shop for anyone looking to familiarize themselves with this area of technological research, as well as for existing professionals who want a handy and thorough reference. Readers of the Handbook of Self-Cleaning Surfaces and Materials will also find: An editor and contributor team with decades of experience in both academic and industrial research Detailed treatment of subjects including TiO2 photocatalysis, hydrophobic self-cleaning surfaces, and more Figures throughout illustrating important concepts and chemical formulas Handbook of Self-Cleaning Surfaces and Materials is an essential resource for researchers and industry professionals in chemistry, surface physics, and materials science.

Book Kinetics of Electrochemical Metal Dissolution

Download or read book Kinetics of Electrochemical Metal Dissolution written by László Kiss and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1988 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Processes that take place at a phase boundary connected with the transfer of electric charge - the electrode processes - are of great importance in many aspects of everyday life. Nevertheless, the elaboration of theories concerning these processes started only in the 1930s. In particular, results obtained during the last two decades have made it possible to survey the general theoretical fundamentals of electrode processes and to elucidate the reaction mechanisms of several important electrode processes. The main aim of the present work is to describe the most significant kinetic characteristics of an important group of electrode processes - the electrochemical dissolution of metals (anodic and spontaneous dissolution). An overview is given on the kinetics of the complex processes taking place in consecutive and parallel reaction paths. In this respect the book fills a gap, as it is the first time that a work relevant to the stepwise mechanism of electrode processes has been published. The value of the work is enhanced by the inclusion of the author's own results, which are assessed together with those of other research workers.

Book The Chemistry of Electrode Processes

Download or read book The Chemistry of Electrode Processes written by Ilana Fried and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Electrode Processes discusses "electrodics" or the science dealing with the transfer of an electric charge between a solid and liquid phase. This book reviews the applications of electrodics, the history of electrochemistry, and the basic definitions and concepts of the galvanic cell. This text also deals with the rate expressions associated with the different types of electrode reaction mechanism including the passing of Faradaic current, the current-voltage curve, mass transport overpotential, and the influence of surface structure on electrode processes. This book describes the electrode-solution interphase at equilibrium, the properties of such interphase, and the ways it can influence electrode kinetics. Any electrode reaction involves several steps and can be influenced by diffusion, adsorption and other parameters. The techniques to study electrode reactions and the electrode-solution interphase consists of equilibrium measurements, steady state measurement, and transient measurement. This text also describes the significant and potential uses of electrodics in technology which need less expensive equipment compared to using spectrophotometric techniques. This book is suitable chemists, for advanced students in analytical chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, and related subjects.
