Book The Management of Acute Respiratory Infections in Children

Download or read book The Management of Acute Respiratory Infections in Children written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 1995 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A step-by-step guide to the correct management of respiratory infections in infants and young children. Addressed to staff in first-level health facilities, the book explains how to assess a child, recognize symptoms, classify the illness, and provide appropriate treatment, whether involving immediate referral to hospital, treatment with antibiotics at home, or simple home care. Throughout, a special effort is made to help staff distinguish the few, very sick children from the many others whose infections can be safely treated at home. The manual also aims to help prevent deaths from pneumonia and other severe illnesses by offering abundant advice on the recognition and urgent management of danger signs. The manual has two parts, each based on the use of a quick-reference case management chart, reproduced in a foldout version. Part one covers the management of pneumonia, wheezing, coughs and colds. Advice on how to collect essential information about the signs of respiratory problems is followed by a description of the steps involved in classifying the illness, determining the degree of severity, and identifying the appropriate treatment. Part one concludes with detailed treatment instructions, including how to give an antibiotic and treat fever and wheezing. Part two explains how to assess, classify, and treat the child with an ear problem or sore throat. Treatment instructions include advice on how to dry the ear by wicking, give an antibiotic, and manage streptococcal sore throat. Further practical information is provided in a series of annexes, which explain how to refer a child to hospital, what to do when referral is not feasible, how to use a rapid-acting bronchodilator, and how to determine whether complaints and symptoms are due to measles, pertussis, or diphtheria.

Book Consolidated Guideline on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women Living with HIV

Download or read book Consolidated Guideline on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women Living with HIV written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2017-02-20 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: he starting point for this guideline is the point at which a woman has learnt that she is living with HIV and it therefore covers key issues for providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights-related services and support for women living with HIV. As women living with HIV face unique challenges and human rights violations related to their sexuality and reproduction within their families and communities as well as from the health-care institutions where they seek care particular emphasis is placed on the creation of an enabling environment to support more effective health interventions and better health outcomes. This guideline is meant to help countries to more effectively and efficiently plan develop and monitor programmes and services that promote gender equality and human rights and hence are more acceptable and appropriate for women living with HIV taking into account the national and local epidemiological context. It discusses implementation issues that health interventions and service delivery must address to achieve gender equality and support human rights.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2 written by Robert Black and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-04-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) by the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) focuses on maternal conditions, childhood illness, and malnutrition. Specifically, the chapters address acute illness and undernutrition in children, principally under age 5. It also covers maternal mortality, morbidity, stillbirth, and influences to pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Volume 3 focuses on developments since the publication of DCP2 and will also include the transition to older childhood, in particular, the overlap and commonality with the child development volume. The DCP3 evaluation of these conditions produced three key findings: 1. There is significant difficulty in measuring the burden of key conditions such as unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, nonsexually transmitted infections, infertility, and violence against women. 2. Investments in the continuum of care can have significant returns for improved and equitable access, health, poverty, and health systems. 3. There is a large difference in how RMNCH conditions affect different income groups; investments in RMNCH can lessen the disparity in terms of both health and financial risk.

Book Recent Advances in Adolescent Health

Download or read book Recent Advances in Adolescent Health written by Roza Olyai and published by JP Medical Ltd. This book was released on 2011-03-14 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolescents experience many challenges in their sexual and reproductive lives, therefore, appropriate and timely specialist advice and care can do much to alleviate problems and misconceptions, and enable young people to move forward with their lives in confidence. Not many doctors are familiar with the delicacy and sensitivity an adolescent girl needs to be treated with as she needs special attention and a quiet, friendly environment. The Adolescent Health Committee of FOGSI aims to achieve this task by establishing Adolescent Friendly Health Centers. Our mission is to sensitize the youth of our country, through various projects we will be dealing in different aspects of health, i.e. physical, mental, social, spiritual, reproductive and sexual health and well-being, throughout their lives. We aim to “help young people form a strong moral identity in their early adolescent years and empower them to contribute to the well-being of their communities...” Disseminating knowledge and helping our adolescents to be empowered has been the goal of the Adolescent Health Committee, FOGSI and one such endeavor would hopefully reach to our colleagues through this book. We have selected different topics related to ASRH for the interest of our readers who will invariably face the dilemma of counseling the young adolescents and relieving them of the stress related with their normal pubertal changes. The preventive health section covers the social aspect of health as not many doctors will be well-versed in treating difficult adolescents, peer pressure and introducing life skills to them. Teenage pregnancy has its own complications and knowledge about contraception is lacking amongst the adolescents which is a major cause of concern globally with complications of unsafe abortion. Premarital counseling, vaccines and knowledge about STDs are important aspects of reproductive sexual health. Menarche at early age and ovarian tumors are cause of concern not only to the adolescents but to their mothers as well, hence a special section will deal with this area. To update our knowledge and learn about laparoscopic and robotic surgery will be a delight for our readers as these are upcoming recent trends in adolescent gynecology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) highlights the progress report for Guinea. In order to strengthen the dynamics undertaken in the area of planning and implementing the poverty reduction strategy, with the support of its development partners, the government in September 2012 undertook the process of preparing its third PRSP, which covers 2013–2015. PRSP-3 implementation for the 2013 annual period registered disappointing results, explained by the unfavorable domestic as well as international context (political instability and falling commodities prices) and poor performance in growth sectors such as mining. Investments in infrastructures in support of growth increased substantially. Support and strengthening of the efforts made in this area will make it possible to ensure stable GDP growth rates of approximately 7.8 percent between 2013 and 2015. However, investments in the energy sector have yielded disappointing results as a result of the poor condition of the network, commercial management problems, and other factors.

Book Population Control

Download or read book Population Control written by Steven Mosher and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over half a century, policymakers committed to population control have perpetrated a gigantic, costly, and inhumane fraud upon the human race. They have robbed people of the developing countries of their progeny and the people of the developed world of their pocketbooks. Determined to stop population growth at all costs, those Mosher calls "population controllers" have abused women, targeted racial and religious minorities, undermined primary health care programs, and encouraged dictatorial actions if not dictatorship. They have skewed the foreign aid programs of the United States and other developed countries in an anti-natal direction, corrupted dozens of well-intentioned nongovernmental organizations, and impoverished authentic development programs. Blinded by zealotry, they have even embraced the most brutal birth control campaign in history: China's infamous one-child policy, with all its attendant horrors. There is no workable demographic definition of "overpopulation." Those who argue for its premises conjure up images of poverty - low incomes, poor health, unemployment, malnutrition, overcrowded housing to justify anti-natal programs. The irony is that such policies have in many ways caused what they predicted - a world which is poorer materially, less diverse culturally, less advanced economically, and plagued by disease. The population controllers have not only studiously ignored mounting evidence of their multiple failures; they have avoided the biggest story of them all. Fertility rates are in free fall around the globe. Movements with billions of dollars at their disposal, not to mention thousands of paid advocates, do not go quietly to their graves. Moreover, many in the movement are not content to merely achieve zero population growth, they want to see negative population numbers. In their view, our current population should be reduced to one or two billion or so. Such a goal would keep these interest groups fully employed. It would also have dangerous consequences for a global environment.
