Book Functional Income Distribution and Its Role in Explaining Inequality

Download or read book Functional Income Distribution and Its Role in Explaining Inequality written by Maura Francese and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-11-24 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is motivated by two parallel trends: the declining labor share of income and increasing inequality. Micro and macroeconomic data, covering up to 93 countries between 1970 and 2013, are used to assess whether the declining labor share of income has been a key factor driving growing inequality. The major conclusion is that changes in income inequality across a wide range of countries have been driven significantly by changes in the inequality of wages, while the distribution of income between labor and capital has not been a major factor.

Book Studies in Research Methodology

Download or read book Studies in Research Methodology written by James Vandiver Bradley and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a natural consequence of the type of task required, the time to operate an instrument control is likely to have a distribution with a distinctive, extremely non-normal shape. The effect of this particular variety of non-normality upon (a) the rapidity of the approach to normality by the distribution of the sample mean as sample size increases, and (b) the approximate validity of certain normality-assuming statistical tests at various sample sizes, was investigated by performing a large sampling study upon a population representing time scores for the operation of a push button.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Quantitative Methods Vol 2 Statistical Analysis

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Quantitative Methods Vol 2 Statistical Analysis written by Todd D. Little and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research today demands the application of sophisticated and powerful research tools. Fulfilling this need, The Oxford Handbook of Quantitative Methods is the complete tool box to deliver the most valid and generalizable answers to todays complex research questions. It is a one-stop source for learning and reviewing current best-practices in quantitative methods as practiced in the social, behavioral, and educational sciences. Comprising two volumes, this handbook covers a wealth of topics related to quantitative research methods. It begins with essential philosophical and ethical issues related to science and quantitative research. It then addresses core measurement topics before delving into the design of studies. Principal issues related to modern estimation and mathematical modeling are also detailed. Topics in the handbook then segway into the realm of statistical inference and modeling with chapters dedicated to classical approaches as well as modern latent variable approaches. Numerous chapters associated with longitudinal data and more specialized techniques round out this broad selection of topics. Comprehensive, authoritative, and user-friendly, this two-volume set will be an indispensable resource for serious researchers across the social, behavioral, and educational sciences.

Book Entropy Based Parameter Estimation in Hydrology

Download or read book Entropy Based Parameter Estimation in Hydrology written by V.P. Singh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the pioneering work of Shannon in the late 1940's on the development of the theory of entropy and the landmark contributions of Jaynes a decade later leading to the development of the principle of maximum entropy (POME), the concept of entropy has been increasingly applied in a wide spectrum of areas, including chemistry, electronics and communications engineering, data acquisition and storage and retreival, data monitoring network design, ecology, economics, environmental engineering, earth sciences, fluid mechanics, genetics, geology, geomorphology, geophysics, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, image processing, management sciences, operations research, pattern recognition and identification, photogrammetry, psychology, physics and quantum mechanics, reliability analysis, reservoir engineering, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, topology, transportation engineering, turbulence modeling, and so on. New areas finding application of entropy have since continued to unfold. The entropy concept is indeed versatile and its applicability widespread. In the area of hydrology and water resources, a range of applications of entropy have been reported during the past three decades or so. This book focuses on parameter estimation using entropy for a number of distributions frequently used in hydrology. In the entropy-based parameter estimation the distribution parameters are expressed in terms of the given information, called constraints. Thus, the method lends itself to a physical interpretation of the parameters. Because the information to be specified usually constitutes sufficient statistics for the distribution under consideration, the entropy method provides a quantitative way to express the information contained in the distribution.
