Download or read book Metal Mediated Template Synthesis of Ligands written by Otilia Costisor and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book surveys the relatively new area of the synthesis of organic ligands when metal ions act as a template. In the last fifty years this field has undergone an explosive development, marked by a great amount of literature. The material in the book has been arranged according to the type of chemical reaction involved. In this frame, the basic principles of metal template reactions and the shape of the molecules are considered. Designed to satisfy the demands of students, young researchers doing their PhDs, and those working in the field of coordination chemistry, the book details the role of the metal ions and the specific properties of the formed complexes.Metal Mediated Template Synthesis of Ligands offers a comprehensive analysis with wide-ranging references and provides an extensive overview of research on metal-directed organic ligands over the past five decades.

This book was released on 2020 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis of bis(salicylato)Cu(II) and Co(II) chelates based on methyl trifluorosalicylate and the corresponding M(OAc) 2 in the presence of alkali is reported. The following reaction with 2,2'-bipyridine and 1,10 phenanthroline in refluxing methanol affords heteroligand complexes containing methyl trifluorosalicylate and azaheterocyclic ligands in the ratio 2:1. However, the refluxing of Co(II) chelates in ethanol resulted in transesterification of methyl ester group to form heteroligand complexes of ethyl trifluorosalicylate while Cu(II) chelates underwent hydrolysis of ester group to obtain heteroligand complexes of trifluorosalicylic acid. The structures of obtained metal complexes were confirmed by X-Ray diffraction experiment, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The antimycotic and antibacterial activities of synthesized metal complexes were investigated. The heteroligand metal complexes were found to exhibit moderate anti-Candida albicans activity. Among new series of complexes, the most activity showed the mixed metal complexes of trifluorosalicylates and 1,10-phenanthroline revealing a wide range of action in relation to pathogenic fungi and bacteria.

This book was released on 2019 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomimetic properties of copper, nickel, and cobalt coordination compounds have been studied extensively as these metals are found in the active sites of numerous proteins. Coordinating ligands with nitrogen donor atoms are especially of interest because nitrogen is also extremely common at these active sites. By changing the structure of the ligand, the complexes can be modified to mimic a wide array of enzymes. Studying these complexes has led researchers to propose mechanisms for many enzymes. In this work, tridentate ligands with nitrogen donor atoms were complexed with Cu(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) to form tetracoordinate and pentacoordinate systems. Syntheses and characterizations will be presented including X-ray crystallographic data, electron spin resonance, and electronic absorption data. [phi]t, [omega], and [tau] parameters will be given to describe the distorted geometries of the metal-ligand complexes.

This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pentadentate ligands provide stability to metal complexes as well as a binding site for substrates that make them exceptionally useful for studying reactions. They have been used in biomimetic studies, water splitting, and small molecule activation studies. A series of six pentadentate ligands derived from a, a, a', a'-tetra(pyrazolyl)lutidine, pz4lut, with methyl substituents decorating the ligand periphery has been synthesized. These ligands were coordinated to FeIICl, and the electronic and structural properties of the resulting complexes were studied in order to deduce the effects of methyl substitution at the 3-, 4-, and 5-positions of the pyrazolyl groups and at the methine positions. When analyzed via cyclic voltammetry, the resulting complexes exhibited oxidation waves between 0.95 V and 0.75 V. It was determined that the 4-pyrazole position controls electronic effects, and the 3-pyrazolyl position controls steric effects. Substitution at the methine positions favors a low-spin FeII complex. It is thought that adding bulkier groups to the methine positions may change the coordination environment of the resulting complex. An [FeIII(OH)(pz4depy)] complex (pz4depy = a, a, a', a'-tetra(pyrazolyl)diethylpyridine) could be capable of oxidizing hydrocarbons with BDE (bond dissociation enthalpy) values less than 93 kcal/mol. A [CoII(H2O)(pz4depy)]2+ complex was shown to be capable of water oxidation via a concerted proton-electron transfer (PCET) mechanism. This complex was compared to a similar WOC, [CoII(H2O)(PY5)]2+, and found to react with water via a more favorable pathway. The BDFE(OH) (bond dissociation free energy of the OH bond) was also calculated via DFT calculations to be 76.7 kcal/mol, which is higher than that of [CoII(H2O)(PY5)]2+ by 5 kcal/mol. Further studies are needed to make sure that the catalytically active species is not CoOx nanoparticles that may have formed in solution. The [CoII(H2O)(pz4depy)]2+ complex is also thought to be capable of CH-activation reactions. This thesis demonstrates the versatility of a new pentadentate ligand family for controlling the electronic and structural properties of transition metal complexes. The data reported herein may be used to select the appropriate complex to participate in CH-activation reactions.
