Book Tulsidas

Download or read book Tulsidas written by SURESH CHANDRA and published by Amar Chitra Katha Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 1971-04-01 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ramayana, Written In Sanskrit By Valmiki Is Considered To Be The 'Adikavya', The First Ever Poem. Tulsidas Rendered It Into Hindi In The Sixteenth Century. But His 'Ramcharit-Manas' Differs From The Original In Many Ways. It Was Written At A Time When A Very Vast Area Of India Was Under Mughal Rule. Amongst The Hindus, There Were Frequent Controversies Between The Worshippers Of Shiva, Vishnu And The Mother Goddess, And Again Between The Worshippers Of Rama And Krishna. There Were Also Cults Which Were Almost Cut Off From The Mainstream Of Indian Life. It Is To The Credit Of Tulsidas That He Tried To Weave All These Cults Into An Integrated Whole. He Made His Rama Say That He Would Not Tolerate Anyone Who Showed Disrespect To Shiva. He Worshipped Not Only At The Temples Dedicated To Rama But Also At Those Dedicated To Krishna. His Works And Teachings Stressed The Importance Of The Life Of A Householder And Weaned People Away From The Tantric Cults. Tulsidas Hailed From A Poor Family Of Rajapur In Uttar Pradesh. He Was Orphaned Soon After His Birth And Even His Foster-Mother Died When He Was Barely Seven Years Old. When He Was Married, He Became Deeply Attached To His Wife, Ratna. She Was The First Person In His Life Whom He Could Call His Own. One Day Not Finding Her At Home On His Return, He Became Extremely Restless And Rushed To His Father-In-Law'S House In The Dead Of The Night, Braving Heavy Rains And A Storm. But Ratna Rebuked Him And Said, "Had You Loved Rama As Intensely As You Do This Bundle Of Flesh And Bones, You Would Have Overcome All Mortal Fears." This Was The Turning Point In His Life. The Story As Narrated In This Book Is Mostly Based On Legends. A Contemporary Of Shakespeare, Tulsidas (1532-1623) Was Known For Singing The Glory Of Rama, The Prince Of Ayodhya. The Ramcharitmanas, Tulsidas Version Of The Ramayana In Awadhi, A Dialect Of Hindi, Consists Of Over 1,0000 Stanzas Of About 12 To 18 Lines Each. Tulsi'S Words Are Musical And Hypnotic. Every Village And Town In The Hindi Heartland Has A Troupe That Enacts The Story Of Rama Based On Tulsida'S Work.

Book A Modern Interpretation of Goswami Tulsidas s RAMCHARITMANAS

Download or read book A Modern Interpretation of Goswami Tulsidas s RAMCHARITMANAS written by Arun Tiwari and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-31 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What is the 'Ramcharitmanas'? It is Rama's story, or Rama's conduct, as narrated by Goswami Tulsidas. However, this doesn't quite explain what the word 'manasa' (mind) is doing in the title. The explanation given, in the 'Ramcharitmanas', is that this story was in Shiva's mind and came to Tulsidas via Parvati and Narharidas, Tulsidas's guru. It is no different with this volume by Professor Arun Tiwari. As a text, the 'Ramcharitmanas' is suffused with bhakti, and Rama's story and 'Ramcharitmanas' become what the reader, as a bhakta, take them to be, much more than with any other text. In this case, the bhakta is also a re-teller and re-interpreter, and bhakti is blended with Advaita Vedanta, although labels are best avoided. Goswami Tulsidas composed the 'Ramcharitmanas' rather late in life. Age brings wisdom. Through this book, Arun Tiwari too brings forth the wisdom that he now passes on, especially to the younger generation, in a novel and engaging way. - Bibek Debroy, Eminent author who translated Valmiki Ramayana into English and currently Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and Member, NITI-Aayog, Government of India."Profusely blessed, Prof. Arun Tiwari, the celebrated co-author of 'Transcendence: My Spiritual Experiences with Pramukh Swamiji' with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, has written a modern narrative of the timeless 'Ramcharitmanas' in the language and flair of the youth. God can be seen through the loving eyes of a devotee in the Murti and felt in the service of a Gunantit Guru. A must-read for people in a world overwhelmed by and overloaded with material pleasures and desires. The book provides a guiding path for the devout to connect with the Supreme. Jai Swaminarayan with deepest prayers! - Sadhu Swayamprakashdas (Pujya Dr. Swami), BAPS SWAMINARAYAN SANSTHA.

Book Being Ram Dass

Download or read book Being Ram Dass written by Ram Dass and published by Sounds True. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Ram Dass lived a full life and then some. His final statement is thorough and, yes, enlightening.” —Kirkus Reviews Perhaps no other teacher has sparked the fires of as many spiritual seekers in the West as Ram Dass. If you’ve ever embraced the phrase “be here now,” practiced meditation or yoga, tried psychedelics, or supported anyone in a hospice, prison, or homeless center—then the story of Ram Dass is also part of your story. From his birth in 1931 to his luminous later years, Ram Dass saw his life as just one incarnation of many. This memoir puts us in the passenger seat with the one-time Harvard psychologist and lifelong risk-taker Richard Alpert, who loved to take friends on wild rides on his Harley and test nearly every boundary—inner or outer—that came his way. Being Ram Dass shares his life’s odyssey in intimate detail: how he struggled with issues of self-identity and sexuality in his youth, pioneered psychedelic research, and opened the doorways to Eastern spiritual practices. In 1967 he trekked to India and met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba. He returned with a perspective on spirituality and psychology that changed millions. Featuring 64 pages of color photographs, this intimate memoir chronicles the cultural and spiritual transformations Ram Dass experienced that resonate with us to this day, a journey from the mind to the heart, from the ego to the soul. Before, after, and along these waypoints, readers will encounter many other adventures and revelations—each ringing with the potential to awaken the universal, loving divine that links us to this beloved teacher and all of us to each other.

This book was released on 2016-01-24 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Kavitawali' is the legendary story of Lord Ram that was written by saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas as part of his Trilogy on Lord Ram's life and time-popularly known as 'Ramayan'. The other two books in this Trilogy are Geetawali and the epic Ram Charit Manas. Each of the three books of the Trilogy is a masterpiece in itself. The other two books would also be made available by this author as soon as they are ready for publication. 'Kavitawali' narrates the story of Lord Ram in a poetic style that is called 'Kavitta' in Hindi. It is basically fine and excellent poetry in one of its best forms, being written as it is in Tulsidas' unique style of narration that is at once lucid, enchanting and captivating for the mind. He has employed all the skills and mastery of words that he is so famous for. The probable reason of his writing Kavitawali (and for that matter Geetawali as well, besides, of course, the epic Ram Charit Manas) is perhaps he wished to narrate the excellent story of Lord Ram in from different angles and employing different styles of poetic composition so that the story as a whole becomes exceedingly enchanting, fascinating and beautiful as it could now be read and recited in various styles and tones to suit every mood and liking of the reader. Further, it helped Tulsidas to describe many aspects of the story which could not be possibly highlighted sufficiently in one book alone due to various restrictions-such as for instance the restrictions imposed by the style selected for the composition, or the flow of the narration, or the limitations of pages-could be overcome in the next book. So, Kavitawali helped Tulsidas to express himself better and more articulately because now he could focus his attention more to highlight in very expressive terms certain parts or aspects of the epic story as well as to fill in certain gaps that he couldn't probably do in the other two books of the Trilogy. Book excerpt: One of India’s greatest epics, the Ramayana pervades the country’s moral and cultural consciousness. For generations it has served as a bedtime story for Indian children, while at the same time engaging the interest of philosophers and theologians. Believed to have been composed by Valmiki sometime between the eighth and sixth centuries BCE, the Ramayana tells the tragic and magical story of Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, an incarnation of Lord Visnu, born to rid the earth of the terrible demon Ravana. An idealized heroic tale ending with the inevitable triumph of good over evil, the Ramayana is also an intensely personal story of family relationships, love and loss, duty and honor, of harem intrigue, petty jealousies, and destructive ambitions. All this played out in a universe populated by larger-than-life humans, gods and celestial beings, wondrous animals and terrifying demons. With her magnificent translation and superb introduction, Arshia Sattar has successfully bridged both time and space to bring this ancient classic to modern English readers.
