Book International Beef Commerce

Download or read book International Beef Commerce written by Hernan Palau and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beef production worldwide grew, according to the FAO, by 30 million tons during 1965-2005. Its annual growth rate has been 2.2%, higher than the average growth rate of the world population (1.7%). The main increases in beef consumption in the past few years have taken place in Asian countries (China, India, Japan, Korea and the Philippines) and in Brazil and Mexico. This can be explained by a consumer diet change brought about by an increase of the population's purchasing power and migration to cities. Argentine beef has a good international position. However, Argentina's beef exports have been very erratic. The Argentine beef sector appears as a sector of low international competitiveness in systemic terms, although its production costs per animal are lower than those of other producing countries. Beef consumption worldwide is expected to continue rising. In that sense, Latin American countries would have a chance to provide to developing countries. Therefore, an opportunity arises for Argentina to become an important player in world beef exports, especially due to the potential of beef production it has, based on all its production possibilities (extensive, pasture-based; and intensive, or feedlot). In this paper we aim to study the future situation of the international beef market and analyze Argentina's possibilities to reposition itself as an important exporter, both in quantity and quality, in the medium term. Primary and secondary data is used, analyzing the main drivers and trends on international beef.

Book Beef Meat Sector Competitiveness Against Global Markets

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global meat exports have shown an increase of 40% over the last decade (USDA, 2013); placing production at 303.9 million tons in 2012 and where pork protein participates with 37%, poultry by 34.4% and bovine with a figure close to 22% (Echavarri, 2012).The price is a key factor that has influenced the demand for pork and poultry against beef; which is partly explained by higher technical efficiencies, production, marketing costosy structure which led to this behavior (FAO, 2012). In this respect the internationally cattle has important challenges in order to increase consumption to rising incomes in developing countries, which favor intensive production practices. (OECD, 2013).While developed countries have opted for intensive bovine album counts enabling a greater presence in international markets, enAmérica America have primacy extensive models, thanks to the availability of land for pastoreoy where lacontribución bovine livestock production in Latin America in the context world, is estimated at 26.6% for meat and 11% for milk (ECLAC, 2013; FAO, 2009).This scenario shows the importance of the livestock beef industry in the region should be analyzed some factors that affect the competitiveness of the chain in the international arena; given the projections made in the document "Agricultural Outlook 2013-2022"; where it is expected a figure close to 3939.38 US/Ton (2014) and a stabilization in the price around 3362.66 US/Ton (2020); compared to dairy products it is expected to average annual increases in a range of 1.6 to 2.1% (OECD - FAO, 2013).

Book Competitiveness of Global Agriculture

Download or read book Competitiveness of Global Agriculture written by Attila Jambor and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book combines food security and agricultural competitiveness issues and treat them together. It starts with definitions and evolution of both concepts, followed by reviews on global and regional food security challenges. The book identifies global agricultural trade and competitiveness patterns and uses it as a basis for analysing global food security. Further, the book also identifies countries/regions/products groups and develops a typology of agricultural competitiveness, giving policy lessons and recommendations on how to increase national/regional/global agricultural competitiveness to achieve sustainable food security goals. The motivation behind writing such a book are numerous. First, as researchers interested in both food security and agricultural competitiveness issues, we have always found a gap in the scientific literature in treating the two notions together. Second, as lecturers of various agricultural policy and food security related courses, we have many times been faced with questions related to the competitive positions of different countries and the factors lying behind these positions. Third, as economic advisors, we have been faced with the need to provide clear policy recommendations and lessons on how increase competitiveness and associated food security many times. Such a need is mainly coming from developing country policy and decision makers. We think the book is unique in many ways. First, it provides a consistent analysis of global agricultural trade patterns over 25 years. Second, it analyzes and synthetizes the definitions, concepts and measurement methods of competitiveness, covering a major gap in the current literature. Third, it establishes a link between the analysis of global agricultural competitiveness and food security, which is also an understudied area. Finally, the book provides policy lessons to increase a country’s agricultural competitiveness and food security by identifying its determinants.

Book The cattle sector in Central and Eastern Europe

Download or read book The cattle sector in Central and Eastern Europe written by K.J. Peters and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Countries in Eastern-Europe are in a lengthy period of rapid changes. Ten Central and Eastern European countries entered the European Union in 2004 and two more entered in 2007. Surrounding countries to the east are in a similar process of change following the disintegration of the former Soviet Union. The transition processes were studied in a recent workshop resulting in this book. It is comprised of 13 contributions: four overview articles, one on the topic of animal welfare and eight country reports. The country reports come from a wide variety of countries in Eastern Europe and Asia: Slovakia, Poland, Baltic States, Russian Federation, Belarus, Ukraine, Caucasian countries and Central Asian countries. The country reports describe the transitions taking place in these countries. Both developments in the beef cattle sector and in the dairy chain are described with emphasis on the dairy chain situation. The authors are from a range of academic and professional backgrounds including universities, research and developmental institutions, farmers’ organisations, agribusiness and a marketing board. Some analyses are made and several critical points in development are signalled. Thus, barriers as well as opportunities for further development are mentioned and described in this book.
