Book Global Outsourcing Strategies

Download or read book Global Outsourcing Strategies written by Roxane Gervais and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most significant techniques to which companies and organizations have turned to improve service delivery and reduce costs has been outsourcing. Over the last 10 years, almost any process has been successfully outsourced. But during that period there have been failures too; projects that never realised their objectives or that had unforeseen impact on business. Global Outsourcing Strategies is a state-of-the-art guide to the best lessons to be learned for successfully implementing and outsourcing projects, or for revisiting existing operations. The 22 chapters explore some of the new areas for outsourcing, after traditional targets such as IT and finance. Information is provided on the different facets of the outsourcing process, such as contract negotiation, the risks involved in outsourcing, the need for service level agreements, the critical requirements needed to build and sustain outsourcing relationships, and ethical supply chain issues. There are also sections exploring the impact of outsourcing on organizational structures; the long term effects; legal issues; management control and inter-firm relationships; as well as case studies from both the public and private sector on the practical side of outsourcing. The book will appeal to practitioners and researchers alike. This is a must-have guide for any organization approaching outsourcing as a global (or local) strategy and for those organizations now reviewing or developing their outsourcing partnerships.

Download or read book The Waste Market written by Elbert Dijkgraaf and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-25 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E. Dijkgraaf and R. H. J. M. Gradus 1. 1 Introduction In 2004 Elbert Dijkgraaf nished a PhD-thesis ‘Regulating the Dutch waste market’ at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. It was interesting that not much is published about the waste market, although it is a very important sector from an economic and environmental viewpoint. In 2006 we were participants at a very interesting conf- ence on Local Government Reform: privatization and public-private collaboration in Barcelona organized by Germa ` Bel. It was interesting to notice that researchers from Spain, Scandinavian countries, the UK and the USA were studying this issue as well. From this we brought forward the idea to publish a book about the waste market. Because of its legal framework we want to focus on Europe. In this chapter we give an introduction to this book. In the next paragraph we present a short overview of the waste collection market. Since 1960 the importance of the waste sector has increased substantially both in the waste streams and the costs of waste collection and treatment. Furthermore, we discuss policy measures to deal with these increases and give an overview of the different measures in - countries. In the last paragraph we present different chapters of our book. 1. 2 Empirical Update of the Waste Collection Market The Dutch case provides a nice example why studying the waste market is int- esting from an economic point of view.

Book Public Transit Economics and Deregulation Policy

Download or read book Public Transit Economics and Deregulation Policy written by J. Berechman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on transit experience from various countries and markets, this book examines the economic environment of transit operations, the cost and production properties of transit service supply and the policies and prospects of transit regulatory reform. The principal objectives of the book are: first to conduct theoretical and empirical analyses of the major factors which jointly determine the economic structure and conditions of the transit sector; and second to explore and suggest policies which could resolve the sector's present crisis and make it economically viable. The first objective is explored in Part One where major structural demand factors and regulatory and subsidy conditions are identified and examined. Analytical and empirical measurement of technical production characteristics of transit services supply is carried out in Part Two. Part Three focuses on transit regulatory reform policy issues. The book is aimed primarily at an audience of transportation professionals, including economists and planners as well as public policy analysts. It requires, in general, a sound background in economics, mainly microeconomics. Thus graduate students in economics, geography, urban planning and public policy, and advanced undergraduates with good training in economics can best benefit from this book.

Book Microeconomic Policy

Download or read book Microeconomic Policy written by Clement Allan Tisdell and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new and updated edition of Microeconomic Policy provides an excellent blend of theory and application to foster understanding of economic-based policy making. The book is eclectic in its approach and addresses a rich set of current applications. It is an ideal book for teaching microeconomic-based policy analysis to students. Todd Sandler, University of Texas at Dallas, US Designed for students who have already encountered the microeconomic principles, this valuable text focusses effectively on their policy implications, imbuing the apparently dry theory with its insights for the general welfare. William J. Baumol, New York University, US and Princeton University, US A distinctive feature of this book is the application of microeconomics to public policy. As to be expected given the international reputation of the authors there is a thorough treatment of global environmental policies, including the Stern Report, and a very useful chapter on issues of defence, conflict and terrorism. What this text offers, and most competing books do not is the breadth of coverage. In this revised edition we have integration into the topics of advances in behavioural, evolutionary and Austrian economics. The relevance to business management and government policy of the material presented makes the subject come alive in application. . . a refreshing change from the curve-shifting that dominates traditional microeconomic texts which turns-off so many of our students and prevents them from seeing the crucial importance of economics to almost every aspect of our well-being. John Lodewijks, University of Western Sydney, Australia This thoroughly accessible textbook shows students how microeconomic theory can be used and applied to major issues of public policy. In this way, it will improve their understanding of both microeconomic theory and policy and also develop their ability to critically assess them. Clem Tisdell and Keith Hartley have expanded upon their previous successful work on microeconomics. As a result, this new book is considerably updated with substantial chapter revisions, as well as new chapters dealing with business management, ownership, environmental issues, public choice, defence, conflict and terrorism. Promoting a thorough understanding of this complex yet fundamental topic, Microeconomic Policy: A New Perspective will undoubtedly prove an invaluable textbook for all students, academics and researchers of economics and public policy.
