Book Existence and Optimality of Competitive Equilibria

Download or read book Existence and Optimality of Competitive Equilibria written by Charalambos D. Aliprantis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is a systematic exposition of the authors' research on general equi librium models with an infinite number of commodities. It is intended to serve both as a graduate text on aspects of general equilibrium theory and as an introduction, for economists and mathematicians working in mathematical economics, to current research in a frontier area of general equilibrium theory. To this end, we have pro vided two introductory chapters on the basic economic model and the mathematical framework. The exercises at the end of each section complement the main exposition. Chapter one is a concise but substantiative discussion of the questions of exis tence and optimality of competitive equilibria in the Walrasian general equilibrium model of an economy with a finite number of households, firms and commodities. Our extension of this model to economies with an infinite number of commodities constitutes the core material of this book and begins in chapter three. Readers fa miliar with the Walrasian general equilibrium model as exposited in (13], [23] or [52] may treat chapter one as a handy reference for the main economic concepts and notions that are used throughout the book.

Book Equilibria in Infinite Dimensional Production Economies with Convexified Coalitions

Download or read book Equilibria in Infinite Dimensional Production Economies with Convexified Coalitions written by Maria Gabriella Graziano and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper deals with a private ownership production economy assuming that the commodity space is infinite-dimensional. It is first showed that the fuzzy core allocations, a concept that goes back to J.-P. Aubin, are in a one-to-one correspondence with certain core allocations of a continuum economy suitably defined. This result is obtained under convexity of preferences and production sets and separability of the commodity space. In the case of nonconvex preferences and production sets, the set of fuzzy coalitions can be enlarged in order to obtain that every allocation of the core accordingly defined is supported by a non zero price. The proof of the equivalence result when the positive cone of the commodity space has the empty interior, is obtained under assumptions of properness for preferences relations and production sets. Keywords and Phrases: Production economy, Infinite dimensional commodity space, Fuzzy core allocation, Walras allocation.

Book Competitive Equilibrium

Download or read book Competitive Equilibrium written by Bryan Ellickson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of general equilibrium theory represents one of the greatest advances in economic analysis in the latter half of the twentieth century. This book, intended for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, provides a broad introduction to competitive equilibrium analysis with an emphasis on concrete applications. The first three chapters are introductory in nature, paving the way for the more advanced second half of the book. Relative to the competition, it is much more 'user friendly' while offering exceptionally broad coverage of topics. Well-designed and interesting applications help to make potentially abstract material more accessible. The book includes 92 illustrations and nearly 200 exercises.

Book Fundamentals Of General Equilibrium Analysis

Download or read book Fundamentals Of General Equilibrium Analysis written by Takashi Suzuki and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-09-03 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to incorporate Marshallian ideas such as external increasing returns and monopolistic competitions into the general equilibrium framework of Walrasian tradition. New chapters and sections have been added to this revised and expanded edition of General Equilibrium Analysis of Production and Increasing Returns (World Scientific, 2009).The new material includes a presentation of equilibrium existence and core equivalence theorems for an infinite horizon economy with a measure space of consumers. These results are currently the focus of extensive studies by mathematical theorists, and are obtained by an application of an advanced mathematical concept called saturated (super-atomless) measure space. The second major change is the inclusion of a simple toy model of a liberal society which implements the difference principle proposed by J Rawls as a principle of distributive justice. This new section opens up a possibility to connect theoretical economics and political philosophy.Thirdly, the author presents the marginal cost pricing equilibrium and discusses welfare properties of the external increasing returns, which also belong to Marshall/ Pigou tradition of the Cambridge school. Finally, a new mathematical appendix treats basics of singular homology theory. Although the fixed point theorem is originally a theorem of algebraic topology, most economic students know its proof only in the context of the differentiable manifold theory presented by J Milnor. Considering the significance of the fixed point theorem and its playing a key role in general equilibrium theory, the purpose of this new appendix is to provide readers with the idea of a proof of Brower's fixed point theorem from the 'right place'.This volume will be helpful for graduate students and researchers of mathematical economics, game theory, and microeconomics.

Book Competitive Equilibrium in Sobolev Spaces Without Bounds on Short Sales

Download or read book Competitive Equilibrium in Sobolev Spaces Without Bounds on Short Sales written by Graciela Chichilnisky and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following Chichilnisky and Chichilnisky-Kalman we establish existence and optimality of competitive equilibrium when commodity spaces are infinite dimensional Sobolev spaces, including Hilbert spaces such as weighted L2 which have Linf as dense subspaces. We allow general consumption sets with or without lower bounds, thus including securities markets with infinitely many assets and unbounded short sales and economies with production. We give non-arbitrage conditions on endowments and preferences which suffice for the existence of an equilibrium. Prices are in the same space as commodities. Equilibrium allocations are approximated by allocations in other frequently used spaces such as C(R) and Linf.

Book Equilibrium Theory in Infinite Dimensional Spaces

Download or read book Equilibrium Theory in Infinite Dimensional Spaces written by M. Ali Khan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apart from the underlying theme that all the contributions to this volume pertain to models set in an infinite dimensional space, they differ on many counts. Some were written in the early seventies while others are reports of ongoing research done especially with this volume in mind. Some are surveys of material that can, at least at this point in time, be deemed to have attained a satisfactory solution of the problem, while oth ers represent initial forays into an original and novel formulation. Some furnish alternative proofs of known, and by now, classical results, while others can be seen as groping towards and exploring formulations that have not yet reached a definitive form. The subject matter also has a wide leeway, ranging from solution concepts for economies to those for games and also including representation of preferences and discussion of purely mathematical problems, all within the rubric of choice variables belonging to an infinite dimensional space, interpreted as a commodity space or as a strategy space. Thus, this is a collective enterprise in a fairly wide sense of the term and one with the diversity of which we have interfered as little as possible. Our motivation for bringing all of this work under one set of covers was severalfold.

Book Competitive Equilibria with Infinitely Many Commodities II

Download or read book Competitive Equilibria with Infinitely Many Commodities II written by Bernt P. Stigum and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the paper the author studies the characteristics of competitive resource allocation in a production economy in which infinitely many commodities must be allocated. The author establishes conditions sufficient to ensure that a competitive equilibrium exists. It is shown under general conditions that a competitive equilibrium allocates resources Pareto-optimally, and that a Pareto-optimum can be sustained as a competitive equilibrium relative to an appropriate distribution of purchasing power.
