Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not another alternative energy study. Rather, The Prologue identifies and charts the security-related trajectory of a relatively new global phenomenon: the ascent of alternative energy as a 21st century megatrend. Why and how have contemporary alternative energy developments evolved into a 21st century global socio-political and techno-economic megatrend? What are the security implications of this megatrend? And what does the megatrend’s evolution reveal about upcoming geopolitical, energy, defense, environmental, and economic security challenges? This book endeavors to answer these questions by establishing the conceptual framework of a universally securitized world in which mutually interacting threats have expanded the needs and security considerations of today’s globalized and interdependent actors, including states, international organizations, multinational corporations, and political and social movements. “Alexander Mirtchev’s sweeping exploration of the changing energy landscape looks far into the future and outlines issues that will occupy scholars and policymakers for decades to come.”—The Hon. Henry Kissinger, Chairman, Kissinger Associates, Former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor “With the advancements in alternative energy technology at the beginning of the 21st century, energy security thinking and planning will never be the same—Alexander Mirtchev’s profoundly original book reveals these new dilemmas that will challenge policymakers in all major economies and provides for dealing with the new realities in a smart way.”—The Hon. Judge William H. Webster, Chairman, Homeland Security Advisory Council, Former Director of the CIA and FBI

Book 5 Forces Analysis for the Market Entry and Expansion Strategy of Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd

Download or read book 5 Forces Analysis for the Market Entry and Expansion Strategy of Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd written by Heike Stapf and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, University of applied sciences, Nürnberg, course: Strategic Management, language: English, abstract: There are big plans for renewables in future: Countries target to 100 % domestic energy demand to be produced by renewable energies. High investments in the branch are supposed to bring the desired targets. The world’s demand for energy is growing rapidly since intensified globalization results in global economic growth and welfare giving companies the incentive to conquer new markets. As more electricity is needed, its’ price is expected to rise worldwide that hampers economic growth. The world’s demand is calling for a global energy mix that adapts to our world’s changing economic and ecological conditions. Thus, providing and combining various independent new energy resources for sustainability with the outlook of reducing CO2 emissions in the long term and to assure and improve energy supply around the global. China is successful due to its’ competitive advantage of producing lowcost solar modules which has badly affected the EU photovoltaic market and its competing enterprises, but granted the country itself a strong position in the global photovoltaic market with their financial opportunity to expand easily. The implementation of tariff regulation and minimum prices to restrain imports for the protection of Europe’s domestic market forces China to rethink its’ strategies: China’s high government subsidies target for intensive investments in form of expansions to new territories. As subsidies may lead to overcapacities in the home country some solar companies are preparing for market entries in emerging countries eager surviving plans of PV companies in times of high competition and falling prices to increase sales volumes to prevent another insolvency in the sector. Combining South Africa’s potential and new business opportunities in highly competitive photovoltaic markets Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd could help to boost Wuxi Suntechs’ figures to be in black again.

Book Racing to the Top

Download or read book Racing to the Top written by William R. Thompson and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the international political economy of the last two millennia, there tends to be one state leading the world as the foremost producer of energy and new technology. In Racing to the Top, William R. Thompson and Leila Zakhirova argue that the US and China, like previous leading countries, rely on energy transition, or the development of alternative energy, in order to make new technology relatively inexpensive to develop and to fuel. While the US has historically held the lead, its edge in the global energy economy appears to be eroding, and as energy leadership diminishes, so does the country's position in world politics. Thompson and Zakhirova take a long view in order to show what will be necessary for a new power to emerge as the system leader, then map a path forward for energy policy. Informed by a deep knowledge of world history, political economy, and environmental technology, this book is the first complete overview of energy transitions over the past thousand years.

Book Energy Sustainability through Retail Electricity Markets

Download or read book Energy Sustainability through Retail Electricity Markets written by John Collins and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-16 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is moving away from demand-driven electricity markets supplied by centralized generation and distribution of fossil-fuel-produced electricity. Increasing reliance on weather-dependent renewable sources will require a shift toward a supply-driven paradigm, while beneficial electrification, including widespread adoption of electric vehicles, heat pumps, and batteries will offer considerable but widely distributed demand flexibility that can be used to compensate for supply variability. The open-source Power Trading Agent Competition (Power TAC) platform simulates a decentralized future, modeling the high complexity of future retail electricity markets. This book describes a variety of approaches to profitable trading in realistic wholesale and retail electricity markets. It presents actionable insights from extensive exploration of policies and business models for retail electricity markets gained from a decade of Power TAC tournaments, and from research inspired by the Power TAC experience. Featuring contributions from tournament designers, competitors, and scientists combining best practices from computer science and economics and management science, this book is of benefit to academics, researchers, practitioners and policy makers in sustainable energy and wholesale and retail electricity markets.

Book The Power of Renewables

    Book Details:
  • Author : Chinese Academy of Engineering
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2011-01-29
  • ISBN : 0309160006
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book The Power of Renewables written by Chinese Academy of Engineering and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-01-29 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States and China are the world's top two energy consumers and, as of 2010, the two largest economies. Consequently, they have a decisive role to play in the world's clean energy future. Both countries are also motivated by related goals, namely diversified energy portfolios, job creation, energy security, and pollution reduction, making renewable energy development an important strategy with wide-ranging implications. Given the size of their energy markets, any substantial progress the two countries make in advancing use of renewable energy will provide global benefits, in terms of enhanced technological understanding, reduced costs through expanded deployment, and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions relative to conventional generation from fossil fuels. Within this context, the U.S. National Academies, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), reviewed renewable energy development and deployment in the two countries, to highlight prospects for collaboration across the research to deployment chain and to suggest strategies which would promote more rapid and economical attainment of renewable energy goals. Main findings and concerning renewable resource assessments, technology development, environmental impacts, market infrastructure, among others, are presented. Specific recommendations have been limited to those judged to be most likely to accelerate the pace of deployment, increase cost-competitiveness, or shape the future market for renewable energy. The recommendations presented here are also pragmatic and achievable.
