Book Compendium of Metaphysics Iv

Download or read book Compendium of Metaphysics Iv written by Adriana Balthazar MD Ph.D and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compendium of Metaphysics IV discusses the subject of death as the process that involves the departure of the individual soul from its outermost garment of flesh (physical body) and the subsequent events that pertain to the progression of the soul through different realms of spiritual existence. Dying is merely crossing a threshold that leads to a new life, with different conditions. Death is brought about by the will of the soul/spirit when a cycle of incarnated life has reached its end. Death, as we understand it, is really the biggest illusion of the material plane. There is no death, only a continuum of life. Death is an interlude for reflection, assessment, integration, and renovation prior to the undertaking of a new life period or reincarnation. Both birth and death are intertwined and parts of a process of spiritual evolution. We must change our attitude toward death since learning about it can help us to overcome the unjustified fear it inspires. It is of out-most importance to encounter death with knowledge and a positive state of mind, for the moment of death greatly influences the intermission period and even further, it has an impact on the following incarnation. Mastery of dying is accomplished when the individual becomes capable of consciously and wisely returning the lower bodies and the soul to their respective sources on due time. Dream work is essential to help us understand correctly the process of death and to advance on the path of spiritual growth.

Book Aristotle Metaphysics Lambda

Download or read book Aristotle Metaphysics Lambda written by Lindsay Judson and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2019-05-26 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Clarendon Aristotle Series is designed for both students and professionals. It provides accurate translations of selected Aristotelian texts, accompanied by incisive commentaries that focus on philosophical problems and issues. The volumes in the series have been widely welcomed and favourably reviewed. Important new titles are being added to the series, and a number of well-established volumes are being reissued with revisions and/or supplementary material. Lindsay Judson provides a rigorous translation of the twelfth book (Lambda) of Aristotle's Metaphysics and a detailed philosophical commentary. Lambda is an outline for a much more extended work in metaphysics - or more accurately, since Aristotle does not use the term 'metaphysics', in what he calls 'first philosophy', the inquiry into 'the principles and causes of all things'. Aristotle discusses the principles of natural and changeable substances, which include form, matter, privation and efficient cause; he argues that principles of this sort are, at least by analogy, the principles of non-substantial items as well. In the second half of the book he turns to unchanging, immaterial substances, first arguing that there must be at least one such substance, which he calls 'God', to act as the 'prime unmoved mover', the source of all change in the natural world. He then explores the nature of God and its activity of thinking (it is the fullest exposition there is of Aristotle's extraordinary and very difficult conception of his supreme god, its goodness, and its activity), and in the course of arguing for a plurality of immaterial unmoved movers he provides important evidence for the leading astronomical theory of his day (by Eudoxus) and for his own highly impressive cosmology. The commentary on each chapter or pair of chapters is preceded by a Prologue, which sets the scene for Aristotle's often very compressed discussion, and explores the general issues raised by that discussion. The Introduction discusses the place of Lambda in the Metaphysics, and offers a solution to the problem of the unity of Aristotle's project in the book.

Book Introduction to Thomistic Metaphysics IV

Download or read book Introduction to Thomistic Metaphysics IV written by Miguel Grosso and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am delighted to present the fourth volume in the series titled Introduction to Thomistic Metaphysics. This book delves into two pivotal topics: the doctrine of Analogy and Categories. Aristotle, a trailblazing philosopher, was the first to apply analogy (originating from mathematics) to Metaphysics, resulting in significant epistemological advancements. This development paved the way for Heidegger to assert that Aristotle had established Metaphysics on an entirely new foundation compared to Platonism. Analogy serves as the method of knowledge that enabled Aquinas to transcend human reason and explore the mysteries of the supernatural order. In this regard, he surpassed Aristotle, who could not progress beyond "Being-in-entity." Aquinas skillfully advanced towards God through analogy, identifying "Being-in-itself" as subsistent Being in God Himself-distinct from an entity. Turning to Categories, we delve into the study of substance and predicamental accidents. While Aristotle emphasized the close entity-substance connection, even equating entity with the first substance, St. Thomas introduced his unique perspective. He recognized that it's the act of being or existing (esse) that brings substantial essence to life by perfecting it, imparting existence, and allowing it to transition from mere extramental existence to tangible reality. Aquinas thus advances beyond Aristotle's essentialist Metaphysics to an existential Metaphysics-one where essence exists in concrete reality. In this volume, I have omitted a Prologue as I found it redundant. Instead, I launch directly into the content, organized into 17 chapters, as follows: 1-What is analogy? 2-Analogy of attribution. 3-Analogy of proportionality. 4-Analogy of inequality. 5-The properties of analogy. 6-The analogical knowledge. 7-The analogical notion of being (or of entity or of "being a being). 8-The categories. 9-The substance (I). 10-The substance (II). 11-The accidents. 12-The quantity. 13-The principle of individuation. 14-The quality. 15-The relation. 16-Other accidents. 17-The human person. Finally, the book concludes with an Epilogue in the form of question-answer sessions and a section dedicated to Notes. As is customary, I have incorporated numerous quotations and references from esteemed authors to enrich the content.

Book Time for Aristotle

Download or read book Time for Aristotle written by Ursula Coope and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2005-10-20 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the relation between time and change? Does time depend on the mind? Is the present always the same or is it always different? Aristotle tackles these questions in the Physics, and Time for Aristotle is the first book in English devoted to this discussion.Aristotle claims that time is not a kind of change, but that it is something dependent on change; he defines it as a kind of 'number of change'. Ursula Coope argues that what this means is that time is a kind of order (not, as is commonly supposed, a kind of measure). It is universal order within which all changes are related to each other. This interpretation enables Coope to explain two puzzling claims that Aristotle makes: that the now is like a moving thing, and that time depends for itsexistence on the mind. Brilliantly lucid in its explanation of this challenging section of the Physics, Time for Aristotle shows his discussion to be of enduring philosophical interest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I present the second book of the series "Introduction to Thomistic Metaphysics" in which I continue to develop the metaphysical treatise of St. Thomas Aquinas. In the first book, we explained the fundamental concepts of Metaphysics according to the Universal Doctor. In this opportunity, we will delve into two concepts: the definition of Metaphysics, in the first place. And the First Principles, in second place. The content consists of 14 chapters. Namely: 1-The philosophy of being. 2-"Beyond physics". 3-General notion of metaphysics. 4-The Thomistic Prologue in the Commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics. 5-Metaphysics as wisdom (or First Philosophy). 6-Metaphysics as the science of separate substances (or Theodicy) 7-Metaphysics as the science of being as being (or Ontology). 8-The First Principles. 9-The hierarchy of the First Principles. 10-The Principle of Contradiction. 11-The precedence of the Principle of Contradiction. 12-The Principle of Identity. 13-The Principle of Excluded middle (or Excluded third). 14-The principle of Sufficient raison. The epilogue, written in the form of questions and answers, aims to refresh the memory of all the concepts developed. The notes are abundant and reflect the interest in the sources and qualified Thomistic authors.

This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Metaphysic of Experience, Vol. 4 of 4 Accordingly, the cardinal and ultimate distinc tion between the domains of Logic and Ethic, as practical sciences, is this, that Logic speaks of the ways in which we must think, if we would avoid error in thinking; Ethic of the way in which we must choose, if we would avoid blame in choosing; both thinking and choosing being necessities of our nature. And not only are both of them necessities of our nature, but they are inseparable one from the other it is only by abstraction that they can be sundered. When we call the domain of Logic thought or reasoning, and that of Ethic practice or conduct, we do so only by conceiving thought as perpetually choosing a particular end, namely, knowledge or truth of fact, prior to com paring and judging facts, and practice as per petually comparing the preferabilities of alterna tive actions, prior to the action Of choosing between them. NO thought is possible without volition, and no volition possible without thought. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
