The Healer's Calling addresses the longings of many people in this profession for a renewed sense of the transcendent meaning of their work, for the spiritual elements of healing.-- where God may be found in health care-- how faithful clinicians might persevere in the midst of the suffering and uncertainty that is part of daily practice-- how and when a doctor or nurse might pray-- how genuine Christian joy can still be found in the healing artsWith extraordinary grace and passion, Franciscan friar and physician Daniel Sulmasy speaks to the spiritual longing of healers. His work is at once a personal reflection and exhortation, written at a time of great turmoil in medicine. Sure to be of great interest to health care workers at all levels, it will capture the attention of anyone concerned about the spiritual dimensions of health care.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of the numerous challenges posed by globalization, living together as humanity on one planet needs to be reinvented in the twenty-first century. To create a new, peaceful, just, and sustainable world order is vital to the survival of us all. In this regard, humankind will have to expand the limited scope of its moral imagination beyond the borders of family, tribe, class, religion, nation, and culture. Will the cultivation of compassion, as scholars like Martha Nussbaum and Karen Armstrong, and religious leaders like the Dalai Lama maintain, contribute to a more just world? A global movement to cultivate and extend compassion beyond the immediate circle of concern may indeed find inspiration from many different religious traditions. The question at the heart of this book is whether the Christian legacy provides us with sources of moral imagination needed to guide us into the global era. Can the Christian practice of faith contribute to a more compassionate world? If so, how? And is it true that compassion is what we need, or do we need something else (justice, for example)? In Considering Compassion, colleagues from different theological disciplines at Stellenbosch, South Africa, and Groningen, Netherlands, take up these challenging questions from a variety of interdisciplinary angles.

Book A Healer s Journey to Intuitive Knowing

Download or read book A Healer s Journey to Intuitive Knowing written by Dolores Krieger and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: • Explores the energetic flow, intuitive knowing, and sustained state of grounded centeredness that occur for a healer during the process of healing • Reveals how healing transforms the healer and how that transformation may elicit more profound and radical healing results • Examines how the healer establishes communication between her own inner self and that of the person requesting healing In this, her final book, respected Therapeutic Touch cofounder Dolores Krieger explores the energetic flow, intuitive knowing, and grounded centeredness that occur for a healer during a healing session. She shows how, as healers access their inner energies of compassion and intention, they are often led through a personal spiritual transformation or a self-awakening. Krieger explains the fundamentals of the energy healing process and how the healer establishes communication between her own Inner Self and that of the person receiving healing--reminding the patient of his or her own self-healing ability. Sharing case histories from Therapeutic Touch therapists as well as results from scientific studies on Therapeutic Touch, Krieger reveals how intuition and experiential knowing are key to the healing process. She also examines the practice of compassion as power with compassion acting as the catalyst for an entire cascade of hormonal, chemical, and energetic responses in the healer, which she embodies and then offers to the person in need. Krieger reveals how healing transforms the healer and how that transformation may elicit more profound and radical healing results.

Book Jesus as Healer

    Book Details:
  • Author : Harold Remus
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1997-04-03
  • ISBN : 9780521585743
  • Pages : 164 pages

Download or read book Jesus as Healer written by Harold Remus and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-04-03 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1997 book presents in readable, non-technical language the findings of scholarship on one important aspect of 'who Jesus was' - the many reports in the New Testament and other early Christian writings that Jesus performed healings. The book paints a picture of the sick and sickness in Jesus' world and the means available to deal with sickness. It shows how Jesus as healer fits - and doesn't fit - into that world. We see him as one of the many healers of his day, but set apart as a 'wounded healer' who in his own death achieves the ultimate 'healing', victory over death. In addressing the question 'did Jesus really heal?' the author provides readers with resources from biblical scholarship, medicine, sociology and anthropology to help arrive at their own answers to the question. The suggestions for further reading as well as the questions for discussion make this book ideal both for personal reading and for group study.

Book Jesus the Best Capernaum Folk Healer

Download or read book Jesus the Best Capernaum Folk Healer written by Zorodzai Dube and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes the established fields of orality, performance, and first-century Christian healthcare studies further by combining analogues of praise performances to Apollo, Asclepius, and those from the Dondo people of South Eastern Zimbabwe to propose that Jesus’s healing stories in Mark’s Gospel are praise-giving narratives to Jesus as the best folk healer within the region of Capernaum. The book argues that the memory of Jesus as the folk healer from Capernaum survived and possibly functioned in similar contexts of praise-giving within early Christian households. The book goes through each healing story in Mark’s Gospel and imaginatively listens to it through the ears of analogue from praise-giving given to Greek healers/heroes and similar practices among the Dondo people. The power, completeness, and effectiveness in which Jesus healed each of the mentioned conditions provoke praise-giving from the listeners to the best folk healer in the village. In each instance, while Mark is calling for attention to the new healer, more so, he is raving praise-giving.
