This book was released on 2021-09-29 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compartment syndrome is a condition caused by an increase in pressure in a closed anatomical space. It can lead to irreversible damage and necrosis of the contents of that space with devastating consequences for the patient. It can affect the musculoskeletal system as well as sites outside the musculoskeletal system including the thorax and abdomen. This book describes the occurrence of compartment syndrome at all these sites, diagnosis and adjuncts to diagnosis, and the importance of timely management of this condition to prevent major morbidity and preserve function.

Download or read book Compartment Syndrome written by Cyril Mauffrey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-02 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compartment syndrome is a complex physiologic process with significant potential harm, and though an important clinical problem, the basic science and research surrounding this entity remains poorly understood. This unique open access book fills the gap in the knowledge of compartment syndrome, re-evaluating the current state of the art on this condition. The current clinical diagnostic criteria are presented, as well as the multiple dilemmas facing the surgeon. Pathophysiology, ischemic thresholds and pressure management techniques and limitations are discussed in detail. The main surgical management strategy, fasciotomy, is then described for both the upper and lower extremities, along with wound care. Compartment syndrome due to patient positioning, in children and polytrauma patients, and unusual presentations are likewise covered. Novel diagnosis and prevention strategies, as well as common misconceptions and legal ramifications stemming from compartment syndrome, round out the presentation. Unique and timely, Compartment Syndrome: A Guide to Diagnosis and Management will be indispensable for orthopedic and trauma surgeons confronted with this common yet challenging medical condition.

  • Author : Egbert K. Duursma
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642801897

Download or read book Environmental Compartments written by Egbert K. Duursma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any concentration of a substance measured in a living or non-living system results from its distribution among all of the environmental compartments: air, water, sediments, and biota. The transfer of a substance from one compartment to another is regulated by physical forces and the chemical properties of the substance and also those of the compartments. When transfer processes are nearly constant in time, a substance will achieve predictable equilibria distributions. It is of utmost importance that students, environmental scientists, and policymakers understand the basic processes which control the distribution of a substance in order to interpret measurements obtained from within a limited number of compartments.

Book The Development of Fishery Compartments and Population Rate Coefficients for Use in Reservoir Ecosystem Modeling

Download or read book The Development of Fishery Compartments and Population Rate Coefficients for Use in Reservoir Ecosystem Modeling written by George R. Leidy and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of analyses designed to develop model fishery compartments and associated fish population rate coefficients on a regional basis for use in reservoir ecosystem modeling are presented. Emphasis is directed toward development of regional rate coefficients for the United States corresponding to major geographical drainage areas. Fishery data will be incorporated in the reservoir ecosystem model currently being developed by personnel of the Environmental Effects Laboratory, U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station. Known physical, chemical, and fishery conditions in 187 Corps of Engineers (CE) impoundments larger than 500 acres are described. Multivariable equations are presented that allow estimation of standing crop and sport fish harvest in CE reservoirs. Data were also reviewed and summarized on the ecological growth and assimilation efficiencies of fish, food consumption rates, respiration rates, temperature tolerances, half-saturation constants for growth, and chemical composition.

Book Splines And Compartment Models An Introduction

Download or read book Splines And Compartment Models An Introduction written by Karl-ernst Erich Biebler and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-07-23 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents methods of mathematical modeling from two points of view. Splines provide a general approach while compartment models serve as examples for context related to modeling. The preconditions and characteristics of the developed mathematical models as well as the conditions surrounding data collection and model fit are taken into account. The substantial statements of this book are mathematically proven. The results are ready for application with examples and related program codes given. In this book, splines are algebraically developed such that the reader or user can easily understand and vary the numerical construction of the different kinds of spline functions. The classical compartment models of the pharmacokinetics are systematically analyzed and connected with lifetime distributions. As such, parameter estimation and model fit can be treated statistically with a varied minimum chi-square method. This method is applicable for single kinetics and also allows the calculation of average kinetics.
