Book excerpt: Excerpt from Comparisons of the Factors Related to Oral and Written Recall Today, leaders in American Education are searching for ways of teaching the higher thought processes to school children. Beginning in the elementary grades, the quest is to stimulate the abilities to analyze, make selections, generalize, outline, organize, do additive and creative thinking. In short, to make the teaching of how to think an actual part of the school curriculum. The ability to recall past experiences, as a phase of memory, is a crucial aspect of the processes involved in thinking. This study on Comparisons of the Factors Related to Oral and Written Recall seeks to augment the research being carried on in this modern approach to the development of the human mind. This book was released on 2006 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current study investigated the use of a written recall procedure as a curriculum-based measurement of silent reading comprehension. Participants were five students in fourth and fifth grades in an after school reading program or an after school care program. An alternating treatments design was used to examine the utility of the written recall procedure in detecting small changes in silent reading comprehension as a result of a listening previewing intervention. Results indicated that the written recall procedure may be effective in detecting small changes in silent reading comprehension: however, further research is needed to determine the procedure's use as a curriculum-based measurement of silent reading comprehension.
