Book Comparison of Two Methods of Obtaining Confidence Intervals for System Reliability

Download or read book Comparison of Two Methods of Obtaining Confidence Intervals for System Reliability written by Sam C. Saunders and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some specific comparisons are made in the note between the use of the asymptotic Chi-square distribution of the likelihood ratio and the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimates to obtain confidence interval for reliabilities of arbitrary systems when only failure data on the components is known. In all the comparisons made, using moderate samples and systems of average complexity, the asymptotic Chi-square appears to give much more accurate confidence intervals. Although the asymptotic Chi-square method requires machine computation for all but the simplest systems while the asymptotic normal method can be done easily by desk calculater, these examples would indicate the Chi-square method would be superior in most practical instances. Download or read book A Comparison of Two Simple Methods for Obtaining Robust Confidence Intervals written by Richard W. Hill and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we study two methods for finding confidence limits for the simple median. One method is the new parametric procedure based on the sign test, and the other is derived in the paper. The two methods are compared asymptotically and also for small samples.

Book Recent Advances in Life Testing and Reliability

Download or read book Recent Advances in Life Testing and Reliability written by N. Balakrishnan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique volume presents chapters written on the areas of life-testing and reliability by many well-known researchers who have contributed significantly to these two areas over the years. Chapters cover a wide range of topics such as inference under censoring and truncation, reliability growth models, designs to improve quality, prediction techniques, Bayesian analysis of reliability, multivariate methods, accelerated testing, and more. The book is written in an easy-to-follow style, first presenting the necessary theoretical details and then illustrating the methods with a numerical examples wherever possible. Many tables and graphs that are essential for the use of some of the new methodologies are presented throughout the volume. Numerous examples provide the reader with a clear understanding of the methods presented as well as with insight into the applications of these results.

Download or read book Applied Statistics written by Lothar Sachs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This outline of statistics as an aid in decision making will introduce a reader with limited mathematical background to the most important modern statistical methods. This is a revised and enlarged version, with major extensions and additions, of my "Angewandte Statistik" (5th ed.), which has proved useful for research workers and for consulting statisticians. Applied statistics is at the same time a collection of applicable statistical methods and the application of these methods to measured and/or counted observations. Abstract mathematical concepts and derivations are avoided. Special emphasis is placed on the basic principles of statistical formulation, and on the explanation of the conditions under which a certain formula or a certain test is valid. Preference is given to consideration of the analysis of small sized samples and of distribution-free methods. As a text and reference this book is written for non-mathematicians, in particular for technicians, engineers, executives, students, physicians as well as researchers in other disciplines. It gives any mathematician interested in the practical uses of statistics a general account of the subject. Practical application is the main theme; thus an essential part of the book consists in the 440 fully worked-out numerical examples, some of which are very simple; the 57 exercises with solutions; a number of different compu tational aids; and an extensive bibliography and a very detailed index. In particular, a collection of 232 mathematical and mathematical-statistical tables serves to enable and to simplify the computations.

Book Confidence Interval Estimation of the Reliability of Multicomponent Systems Using Component Test Data

Download or read book Confidence Interval Estimation of the Reliability of Multicomponent Systems Using Component Test Data written by Jerome Richard Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is developed for the construction of confidence intervals for a general class of functions of binomial parameters called system reliability functions. These system reliability functions express the reliability of a multicomponent system as a function of the reliabilities of the components of the system. The method derived uses the exact multivariate binomial distribution of component test data. The problem is formulated as a general mathematical programming problem and numerical methods are developed for the solution of the problem. The method is applied to several specific systems and detailed computational procedures are developed for each. The method derived is compared with other currently available methods for constructing confidence intervals for system reliability based on component test data and the results of this comparison indicates the possibility of obtaining and appreciable reduction in the average length of confidence intervals for a given sample size and confidence coefficient by the use of the method of this report. The use of these confidence intervals for the construction of statistical tests of hypotheses concerning system reliability is also discussed. (Author).
