This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Adaptation of Folin's Method for the Quantitative Determination of Creatine and Creatinine The quantitative method for the determination of creat ine and creatinine, which was perfected by Folig? Is the most accurate which we possess to-day. This method is based on the werk of Jafféf'who showed that when a solution containing creat inine is treated with a solution of picric acid and made alka line with sodium hydroxide a beafiiful deep, red -orange color is produced. Previous to this time creatinine was precipitated with zinc chloride, filtered, and weighed as the double salt of creat inine and zinc chloride. Folin's method was perfected for the use in the determination of creatinine in urines. The method is as follows: Place ten cubic centimeters of urine in a 500 cc. Volumetric flask, add 15cc. Of a saturated solution of picric acid and Sec. Of a 10 per cent solution of sodium hydroxide; then shake thoroughly, and allow the mixture to stand. After exactly five minutes, dilute the contents of the flask to the 500cc. Mark, and pour some of the solution ants one of the cylinders of the Duboscdrcolorimeter. One of the cylinders of the colorimeter is filled with a half-normal solution of potassium dichromate and the prism plunged into it until the scale reads 8mm. In the one containing the solution of creatinine, picric acid, and sodium hydroxide the prism plunger is adjusted until there is an equal depth of color in the two halves of the field at the eye piece. Four readings should be made in each determination and the average used as the final result. From such data, the amount. Book The Handbook of Metabonomics and Metabolomics

Download or read book The Handbook of Metabonomics and Metabolomics written by John C. Lindon and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-11 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular biology operates at three levels – genes, proteins and metabolites. This book is unique in that it provides a comprehensive description of an approach (metabonomics) to characterise the endogenous metabolites in a living system, complementing gene and protein studies (genomics and proteomics). These "omics" methods form the basis for understanding biology at a systems level. The Handbook of Metabonomics and Metabolomics aims to be the definitive work on the rapidly expanding subjects of metabolic profiling, metabolite and biomarker identification, encompassing the fields of metabonomics and metabolomics. It covers the principles of the subject, the analytical and statistical techniques used and the wide variety of applications. * comprehensive description of an approach (metabonomics) to characterise the endogenous metabolites in a living system, complementing gene and protein studies* aims to be the definitive work on the rapidly expanding subjects of metabolic profiling, metabolite and biomarker identification* covers the principles of the subject, the analytical and statistical techniques used and the wide variety of applications.
