This book was released on 1979 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted in the VKF/A and PWT/4T wind tunnels at AEDC to obtain captive trajectory, aerodynamic loads, and flowfield data in order to assess the ability to reproduce trajectories from tunnel to tunnel. The data were obtained with a 0.05-scale generalized shape aircraft model, an ogive-cylinder store model, and conical flow survey probes at and near the centerline fuselage station pylon and the wing 1/3-semispan station pylon. The tests were conducted at a Mach number of 1.63 with aircraft model angle of attack set at zero. Generally, the trajectories obtained in the two wind tunnels compared well. There was very good agreement in the translational motion of the store trajectories, with only slight differences in the angular motion in selected cases. (Author).

Book Flow field Characteristics and Aerodynamic Loads on External Stores Near the Fuselage and Wing pylon Positions of a Swept wing fuselage Model at Mach Numbers of 0 4 and 0 7

Download or read book Flow field Characteristics and Aerodynamic Loads on External Stores Near the Fuselage and Wing pylon Positions of a Swept wing fuselage Model at Mach Numbers of 0 4 and 0 7 written by R. H. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental data were obtained to aid in the prediction of aerodynamic loads and separation-trajectory characteristics on stores under the influence of an aircraft flow field. Four types of data were obtained in the vicinity of a generalized aircraft model: (1) flow field surveys, using a 40-deg cone probe, to determine the local velocity field, (2) force and moment data on four store models, (3) pressure distribution data on an ogive-cylinder model, and (4) captive-trajectory store separation data on one store model. The generalized aircraft model consisted of a swept-wing/fuselage combination with rectangular, flow-through engine ducts.

This book was released on 1979 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted on a four-finned, ogive-cylinder store model which was mounted on the von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility (VKF) Captive Trajectory System (CTS) in the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Supersonic Wind Tunnel A. The purpose of these tests was to provide information necessary for an independent check on the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. Grid and trajectory data were obtained for the store, both in the free stream and in the interference flow field of a generalized parent-aircraft model. The Mach number was 1.63, with Reynolds numbers per foot of 5.0 and 3.8 million. Grid data from these tests were used in conjunction with the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory (AFFDL) Six-Degree-of-Freedom Computer Program (SDFCP) to simulate the trajectories obtained by the VKF CTS. These SDFCP simulations compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important independent verification of the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. This report documents this validation effort and provides a general description of the VKF CTS as well as guidelines for potential users of this system. (Author).

Book Evaluation of the Aerodynamic Interference of the Tunnel 4T Captive Trajectory System on the Separation Characteristics of the BLU 27 Store

Download or read book Evaluation of the Aerodynamic Interference of the Tunnel 4T Captive Trajectory System on the Separation Characteristics of the BLU 27 Store written by Wallace Luchuk and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the results of an experimental program to evaluate the effect of the 4T Captive Trajectory System on the separation characteristics of typical stores. The models selected as being generally representative of external stores were the modified BLU-27B/B configuration with and without fins. The aircraft model selected for this test was the F-111. To assess the aerodynamic interference of the Captive Trajectory System on the store and its trajectory, four sting lengths were used to position the store model at varying distances from the support system. Data were obtained at Mach numbers of 0.4, 0.8, 0.9, 1.1, and 1.2. Captive trajectories simulating store separation from the aircraft model were obtained; forces on the store were measured while the store was moved vertically away from the marriage position; and force data on the store were obtained as it was yawed in a location as far removed as possible from the aircraft model. It was concluded that the Captive Trajectory System has little or no effect on the store loads and trajectory development. (Author).

Book Aerodynamic Loads and Separation Trajectories for Several Stores with the F 15 Aircraft at Mach Numbers from 0 6 to 1 3

Download or read book Aerodynamic Loads and Separation Trajectories for Several Stores with the F 15 Aircraft at Mach Numbers from 0 6 to 1 3 written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind tunnel test was conducted at Mach numbers from 0.6 to 1.3 with 0.05-scale models of six stores and the F-15 aircraft. Extensive aerodynamic loads measurements were obtained for these stores in the aircraft flow field from the carriage position to 20 ft below the inboard pylon surfaces, with the majority of the data taken near the right-wing pylon. Aircraft angle of attack was varied from 0 to 10 deg. Separation trajectories were obtained for three of the stores at simulated altitudes from 5,000 to 18,000 ft at an aircraft angle of 0.5 deg. Free-stream characteristics for all stores were obtained with the aircraft model removed from the tunnel.

Book Aerodynamic Load Characteristics of Six 0 05 Scale Stores in the Flow Field of an F 4C Aircraft at Mach Numbers from 0 5 to 1 1

Download or read book Aerodynamic Load Characteristics of Six 0 05 Scale Stores in the Flow Field of an F 4C Aircraft at Mach Numbers from 0 5 to 1 1 written by G. R. Gomillion and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind-tunnel tests were conducted using six 0.05-scale stores with various afterbody shapes to investigate the store aerodynamic load characteristics in the flow field of the F-4C aircraft. The store models had a hemispherical nose and a cylindrical midsection with various afterbody shapes. Three store models had cruciform pattern fins on a blunted cone-shaped afterbody. The other three store models had blunted cone, blunted ogive, and cylindrical-shaped afterbodies, respectively. All finned store models were tested in both 'X' and '+' fin orientations. Free-Stream store loads data were also obtained at yaw angles between -6 and 30 deg. All store loads data are presented for Mach numbers from 0.5 to 1.1. (Author).

Book Comparison of Two Methods Used to Measure Aerodynamic Loads Acting on Captive Store Models in Wind Tunnel Tests

Download or read book Comparison of Two Methods Used to Measure Aerodynamic Loads Acting on Captive Store Models in Wind Tunnel Tests written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a series of wind tunnel tests, measurements were made of the aerodynamic loads acting on eight different store configurations supported in and near the external captive position on a 1/20-scale model of the F-4C aircraft. Store models included blunt and contoured afterbody shapes, stable and unstable configurations, and large (pylon-mounted) and small (rack-mounted) configurations. Six components of forces and moments were measured using two methods of supporting the store models: an internal bracket support technique (IBS), and a dual sting support technique. Some characteristics of the interference flow field of the aircraft were also inferred.

Book Influences of Sway Braces and Mounting Gaps on the Static Aerodynamic Loading of External Stores

Download or read book Influences of Sway Braces and Mounting Gaps on the Static Aerodynamic Loading of External Stores written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the scale factor applied in the design of wind tunnel models is reduced, many details of the configuration being simulated are customarily omitted. A series of experiments was conducted in the Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel (4T) of the Propulsion Wind Tunnel Facility at the Arnold Engineering Development Center to evaluate the effect on captive store loading of model details such as sway braces and mounting gaps existing between store and aircraft components. Six components of aerodynamic loads acting on both pylon- and rack-mounted stores in the captive position were measured, a limited number of store separation trajectories was predicted using the captive trajectory system, and a brief comparison of wind tunnel and in-flight measurements of captive loads was made. It was determined that the effects of mounting gaps or flow ventilation passages were generally small, but that sway braces can significantly influence both captive loads and separation trajectories. It was also observed that better agreement between wind tunnel and in-flight measurements of captive store loading resulted when mounting gaps and sway braces were simulated on the wind-tunnel models.
