Workshops give researchers the possibility to share preliminary ideas, ?rst - perimental results, or to discuss research hypotheses. Discussions held during presentations strengthen the paper and prepare it for publication. From our - perience, workshops are a perfect instrument with which to create a community aroundvery speci?c researchtopics, thus o?ering the opportunity to promote it. Topics that do not ?nd critical feedback at the main International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS) may experience fruitful discussion when confronted with a well-focused audience. Over the last few decades, business informationsystems have been one of the most important factors of the transition toward a knowledge-based economy. At the same time they have been subject to continuous rapid development and innovation driven both by industry and by academia. For the last 12 years these innovations were carefully observed but also shaped by researchers attending BIS yearly.

Book Between the Plough and the Pick

Download or read book Between the Plough and the Pick written by Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: y global social, agrarian and political changes, whilst underlining the roles that local social political-historical contexts play in shaping mineral extractive processes and practices. It shows that the people who are engaged in these mining practices are often the poorest and most exploited labourers-erstwhile peasants caught in the vortex of global change, who perform the most insecure and dangerous tasks. Although these people are located at the margins of mainstream economic life, they collectively produce enormous amounts of diverse material commodities and find a livelihood (and often a pathway out of oppressive poverty). The contributions to this book bring these people to the forefront of debates on resource politics. The contributors are international scholars and practitioners who explore the complexities in the histories, in labour and production practices, the forces driving such mining, the creative agency and capacities of these miners, as well as the human and environmental costs of ASM. They show how these informal, artisanal and small scale miners are inextricably engaged with, or bound to, global commodity values, are intimately involved in the production of new extractive territories and rural economies, and how their labour reshapes agrarian communities and landscapes of resource access and control. This book drives home the understanding that, collectively, this social and economic milieu redefines our conceptualisation of resource politics, mineral dependent livelihoods, extractive geographies of resources and commodities, and their multiple meanings.

Book Practical Mining and Gold Processing for the Small Scale Operator

Download or read book Practical Mining and Gold Processing for the Small Scale Operator written by A R C. Matuska and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where does a wannabe miner or established individual operator get the information to create a small yet highly profitable mining company? When author A R C Matuska searched for simple, practical mining books and information about the industry, he found high-powered studies, academic theses and computer modeling. In short, nothing of use to the small, practical mine operator. The best information he found was in booklets aimed at ex-servicemen after World War II, encouraging them to take up mining in the British colonies in Africa. Since then, there has not been much written in such a useful and practical manner. To answer this need, a veritable goldmine of information is included in the book Practical Mining and Gold Processing for the Small Scale Operator. Where does a newcomer to the industry find out how to sample and calculate a potential resource and plan his mining business? Where does he get the information to run a small ball mill or stamp mill? How does he set up and dress a simple amalgam plate, retort some amalgam or make up a retort, and calculate the percentage of gold in bullion? Where does a small operator find out how to set up a low-cost cyanide plant and its running procedures? And how does he improve mining and blasting efficiencies? This book provides practical applications and solutions to get you started in one of the most diverse, profitable and interesting industries. It is indexed in detail so information can be easily found without sifting through realms of data. A R C Matuska is a career miner. He owns and consults for several mining properties in East and Central Africa. Publisher's website: http: //sbpra.com/ARCMatuska
