Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to compare the differences between silent reading comprehension and oral reading comprehension. Throughout this study 22 fourth grade students were assessed through multiple comprehension assessments to find the differences in results of silent vs. oral reading comprehension. This study showed that students with lower level reading abilities performed better on reading assessments that they silently read. Students with middle to upper reading levels performed better on assessments that were orally read to them.
