Download or read book Geotechnical Related Development and Implementation of Load and Resistance Factor Design LRFD Methods written by George G. Goble and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to geotechnical, structural, and bridge engineers, especially those involved in the development and implementation of the geotechnical aspects of the AASHTO Bridge Code. The synthesis documents a review of geotechnical related LRFD specifications and their development worldwide to compare them with the current AASHTO LRFD Bridge Code. Design procedures for foundations, earth retaining structures, and culverts are summarized and compared with the methods specified by the AASHTO code. This TRB report provides information designed to assist engineers in implementing the geotechnical features of LRFD methods. Information for the synthesis was collected by surveying U.S. and Canadian transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search using domestic and international sources. Interviews were also conducted with selected international experts. The limited available experience in the United States and information from international practice are discussed to understand the problems that have arisen in order that solutions may be found. Based on the studies reported here, suggestions for improving the code are identified.
Download or read book Foundation Analysis and Design written by Joseph E. Bowles and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 1175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revision of this best-selling text for a junior/senior course in Foundation Analysis and Design now includes an IBM computer disk containing 16 compiled programs together with the data sets used to produce the output sheets, as well as new material on sloping ground, pile and pile group analysis, and procedures for an improved anlysis of lateral piles. Bearing capacity analysis has been substantially revised for footings with horizontal as well as vertical loads. Footing design for overturning now incorporates the use of the same uniform linear pressure concept used in ascertaining the bearing capacity. Increased emphasis is placed on geotextiles for retaining walls and soil nailing.
Download or read book Proceedings of the International Symposium on New Generation Design Codes for Geotechnical Engineering Practice Taipei 2006 written by Meei-Ling Lin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communication of design risk within a transparent and rational framework is necessary in view of the increasing interest in code harmonization, public involvement in defining acceptable risk levels, and risk-sharing among client, consultant, insurer, and financier. Activities in code harmonization are particularly noteworthy. For the geotechnical engineering profession, there is added pressure for it to undergo a significant revamp because structural and geotechnical design are increasingly incompatible. The contributions in this volume tackle the important issues relating to new generation geotechnical design codes, in a bid to move geotechnical engineers forward together with the significant changes occurring at the global level.

Book excerpt: Geotechnical engineers are at work worldwide, contributing to sustainable living and to the creation of safe, economic and pleasant spaces to live, work and relax. With increased pressure on space and resources, particularly in cities, their expertise becomes ever more important. This book presents the proceedings of the 5th iYGEC, International Young Geotechnical Engineers' Conference, held at Marne-la-Vallée, France, from 31 August to 1 September 2013. It is also the second volume in the series Advances in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. The papers included here cover topics such as laboratory and field testing, geology and groundwater, earthworks, soil behavior, constitutive modeling, ground improvement, earthquake, retaining structures, foundations, slope stability, tunnels and observational methods. The iYGEC conference series brings together students and young people at the start of their career in the geotechnical professions to share their experience, and this book will be of interest to all those whose work involves soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Download or read book Piling Engineering Third Edition written by Ken Fleming and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-09-25 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Piling is a fast moving field and recent years have seen major advances in theory, methods, testing procedures and equipment. Some of these changes have been driven by the need for economies and efficiency, reduced spoil production and new methods of pile bore support. Advances in theoretical analyses allow pile design to be refined so that piles and pile groups perform to better advantage. This third edition of the well established book has been comprehensively updated. It provides an accessible and well-illustrated account of design techniques, methods of testing and analysis of piles, with a marked emphasis on practice but with design methods that incorporate the most recent advances in piling theory. Piling Engineering is written for geotechnical engineers, consultants and foundation contractors. It is also a useful reference for academics and advanced students on courses in piling, practical site investigation and foundation design and construction.
