Book International Organization for Standardization Methods for Determination of Asbestos in Air

Download or read book International Organization for Standardization Methods for Determination of Asbestos in Air written by Eric J. Chatfield and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two International Standards for measurement of asbestos in air by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) have been approved. A key feature of the ISO TEM methods is the ability, from a single examination, to derive fiber concentrations for comparison with all known legislated control limits, and to provide a coded description of the size and nature of each asbestos structure to assist in the interpretation of health effects. The direct-transfer TEM method for determination of asbestos in air (ISO 10312) was published as an International Standard in May 1995. Voting on an indirect-transfer TEM method (ISO 13794) has been completed, and the final draft has been submitted for publication. A method for determination of the concentration of inorganic fibers in air, based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM), has recently been submitted for voting as a Draft International Standard, currently designated as ISO/DIS 14966. A new working group, ISO/TC 146/SC 6/WG4, was formed in late 1996, to develop International Standards for sampling strategy for determination of asbestos and other mineral fibers in building atmospheres.

Book Proposed ASTM Method for the Determination of Asbestos in Air by TEM and Information on Interfering Fibers

Download or read book Proposed ASTM Method for the Determination of Asbestos in Air by TEM and Information on Interfering Fibers written by W. Randy Boltin and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The draft of the ASTM Test Method for air entitled: "Airborne Asbestos Concentration in Ambient and Indoor Atmospheres as Determined by Transmission Electron Microscopy Direct Transfer (TEM)" (ASTM Z7077Z) is an adaptation of the International Standard, ISO 10312. It is currently undergoing a revision in regard to the reporting of confidence intervals for analysis results. The method differs considerably from the AHERA air clearance analysis method in that the counting rules provide a fairly complete characterization of the sizes of structures and structural components of asbestos-containing particles in the air. With the information derived from a full analysis, it is possible to determine the total asbestos structure count, the total fiber count, the PCM equivalent fiber count, the AHERA equivalent structure count and a number of other count values based on specific criteria. Examples of nonasbestos fibers which might interfere with the analysis (antigorite, palygorskite, halloysite, hornblende, sepiolite and vermiculite scrolls) are also included.

This book was released on 2024-07-23 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluates the risks and human health impacts of asbestos and other fibrous minerals Despite continuous efforts to eliminate asbestos from commercial use, it remains a serious occupational and environmental hazard. Health Risk Assessment for Asbestos and Other Fibrous Minerals provides a rigorous discussion of risk assessment methodology for elongate mineral particles, covering basics, theory, models, and practical applications, enabling readers to participate in carrying out efficient and informed health risk assessments, to estimate potential adverse effects for exposed populations, and to determine the acceptability of risks at a given level of exposure. Coverage includes: Mineralogy, health effects, pathology, exposure assessment, modeling, and characterization of risks for asbestos and similar toxic materials Necessary integration of epidemiology, toxicology, industrial hygiene, and environmental health expertise when performing a health risk assessment Emerging and not-well-known hazards, e.g. erionite and other naturally occurring fibrous minerals Contributions by Garry Burdett, Bruce Case, Lucy Darnton, Daniel Hall, Arseniy Korchevskiy, Brooke Mossman, Cassidy Strode, Robert Strode, and Ann Wylie Case studies and examples of risk calculations Health Risk Assessment for Asbestos and Other Fibrous Minerals is a highly practical reference on the subject for occupational and public health professionals, industry and government regulators, industrial hygienists, and risk assessors, along with epidemiologists, biostatisticians, toxicologists, and other scientific professionals.

Book Ambient Air

Book Analytical Chemistry of Aerosols

Download or read book Analytical Chemistry of Aerosols written by Kvetoslav R. Spurny and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until the 1980s, researchers studied and measured only the physical properties of aerosols. Since the 80s, however, interest in the physicochemcal properties of aerosols has grown tremendously. Scientists in environmental hygiene, medicine, and toxicology have recognized the importance held by the chemical composition and properties of aerosols and the interactions of inhaled, "bad" aerosols. This book offers the first comprehensive treatment of modern aerosol analytical methods, sampling and separation procedures, and environmental applications, and offers critical reviews of the latest literature. This important field has developed rapidly in the last 15 years, but until now, no book effectively summarized or analyzed the existing research. Analytical Chemistry of Aerosols reviews procedures, techniques, and trends in the measurement and analysis of atmospheric aerosols. With contributions from acknowledged, international experts, the book discusses various methods of bulk analysis, single particle analysis, and the analysis of special aerosol systems, including fibrous and bacterial aerosols.

Book excerpt: In recent years, industry has become increasingly interested in modern aerosol measurement methods, not only to protect the health of their workers but also to augment productivity and thereby gain competitive advantage. Aerosol Measurement: Principles, Techniques, and Applications, Second Edition offers scientists and practitioners the fundamental principles used in deciding which aerosol properties to measure and how to interpret the results. Divided into three parts, the material reviews the physical understanding of aerosols, covers specific instrumental techniques, and explains applications in fields ranging from health care to mining and upper-atmosphere research. Leading experts contribute to the review of such areas as direct-reading techniques, bioaerosol sampling, indoor air evaluations, industrial aerosol processing, and measurement in semiconductor clean rooms. Plus, all the chapters in this latest edition have been updated and some have been rewritten by new authors. Two new chapters have been added: one on historical aspects of aerosol measurements and the other on real-time single particle analysis.
