Book Short term Monitoring of Formaldehyde

Download or read book Short term Monitoring of Formaldehyde written by Deborah V. L. Myers and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formaldehyde is used in the production of many household and building products and its health hazards are well recognized. Airborne formaldehyde concentrations can be measured using several different techniques, including laboratory-based methods and direct-reading instruments. For this study, two commercially available direct-reading instruments, an RKI Instruments Model FP-30 and a PPM Technology FormaldemeterTM htV, were compared with NIOSH Method 2016 in different test environments to determine if these direct-reading instruments can accurately measure formaldehyde.

Book Selected Papers from the ISTEGIM 19

Download or read book Selected Papers from the ISTEGIM 19 written by Lucien Baldas and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue compiles 11 scientific works that were presented during the International Symposium on Thermal Effects in Gas Flow in Microscale, ISTEGIM 2019, held in Ettlingen, Germany, in October 2019. This symposium was organized in the framework of the MIGRATE Network, an H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Training Network that ran from November 2015 to October 2019 (www.migrate2015.eu). MIGRATE intends to address some of the current challenges in innovation that face the European industry with regard to heat and mass transfer in gas-based microscale processes. The papers collected in this book focus on fundamental issues that are encountered in microfluidic systems involving gases, such as the analysis of gas–surface interactions under rarefied conditions, the development of innovative integrated microsensors for airborne pollutants, new experimental techniques for the measurement of local quantities in miniaturized devices and heat transfer issues inside microchannels. The variety of topics addressed in this book emphasizes that multi-disciplinarity is the real common thread of the current applied research in microfluidics. We hope that this book will help to stimulate early-stage researchers who are working in microfluidics all around the world. This book is dedicated to them!

Book Airborne Measurements for Environmental Research

Download or read book Airborne Measurements for Environmental Research written by Manfred Wendisch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-22 with total page 659 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first comprehensive review of airborne measurement principles covers all atmospheric components and surface parameters. It describes the common techniques to characterize aerosol particles and cloud/precipitation elements, while also explaining radiation quantities and pertinent hyperspectral and active remote sensing measurement techniques along the way. As a result, the major principles of operation are introduced and exemplified using specific instruments, treating both classic and emerging measurement techniques. The two editors head an international community of eminent scientists, all of them accepted and experienced specialists in their field, who help readers to understand specific problems related to airborne research, such as immanent uncertainties and limitations. They also provide guidance on the suitability of instruments to measure certain parameters and to select the correct type of device. While primarily intended for climate, geophysical and atmospheric researchers, its relevance to solar system objects makes this work equally appealing to astronomers studying atmospheres of solar system bodies with telescopes and space probes.

Book Analytical Techniques for Atmospheric Measurement

Download or read book Analytical Techniques for Atmospheric Measurement written by Dwayne Heard and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost all of the breakthroughs in understanding the atmospherehave been initiated by field observations, using a range ofinstrumental techniques. Developing or deploying instruments tomake further observations demands a thorough understanding of thechemical and spectroscopic principles on which such measurementsdepend. Written as an authoritative guide to the techniques of instrumentalmeasurement for the atmospheric scientist, research student orundergraduate, Analytical Techniques for Atmospheric Measurementfocuses on the instruments used to make real time measurements ofatmospheric gas and aerosol composition. Topics covered include howthey work, their strengths and weaknesses for a particular task, the platforms on which they have been deployed and how they arecalibrated. It explains the fundamental principles upon which theinstrumental techniques are based (ie what property of a moleculecan be exploited to enable its detection), what limits instrumentalsensitivity and accuracy, and the information that can be gainedfrom their use.

Book A New Method for the Measurement of Airborne Formaldehyde Using Derivatization with 3 5 bis trifluoromethyl phenylhydrazine

Download or read book A New Method for the Measurement of Airborne Formaldehyde Using Derivatization with 3 5 bis trifluoromethyl phenylhydrazine written by Adam Manuele Marsella and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method is described and validated for the measurement of airborne formaldehyde using solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges impregnated with 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenylhydrazine (TFMPH). Analysis by gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC-ECD) provides a detection limit of 74 ng formaldehyde per sample. A field study was conducted to compare the use of this method to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) method TO-11, which uses 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) chromotropic acid (CTA) method (NIOSH method 3500). Samples were collected from a variety of indoor and outdoor environments known or suspected to contain formaldehyde, Use of TFMPH with GC-ECD analysis correlates well with both methods (R2 = 0.93, slope = 1.09 vs. DNPH; R2 = 0.96, slope = 1.01 vs. CTA). Spiked samples were shown to be stable at least 14 days when stored at -20°C. Analysis of samples by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry with selected ion monitoring (GC-MS/SIM) has also proved feasible, with a detection limit comparable to that obtained by GC-ECD. All instrument calibrations were carried out by vapour spiking precise masses of aldehyde onto the sampling cartridges. For field sampling at environmental concentrations (

Book Comparison of Two Small Chamber Test Methods Used to Measure Formaldehyde and VOC Emission Rates from Particleboard and Medium Density Fiberboard

Download or read book Comparison of Two Small Chamber Test Methods Used to Measure Formaldehyde and VOC Emission Rates from Particleboard and Medium Density Fiberboard written by ML. Hoag and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emission of formaldehyde and other VOCs from composite wood products is of much interest. Large chamber test procedures (ASTM E 1333) have been established and are routinely used to monitor composite wood product performance relative to federal formaldehyde emissions standards established by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Increasingly, small chamber procedures developed by researchers for general VOC analysis are being used to characterize composite panel product emissions.
