Book An Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology

Download or read book An Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology written by Donald B. McMillan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atlas of Comparative Vertebrate Histology looks at the histology of a wide range of vertebrates, representative of all the major classes and families, with examples ranging from amphioxus to primates. The authors focus their microscope on commonly seen vertebrates as well as ‘non-standard’ species, such as lamprey, hagfish, dogfish, skate, rock bass, cod, river catfish, toad, amphiuma, leopard and bull frog, garter and brown snake, Coturnix quail and cowbird. The study of comparative histology in the vertebrates helps students and researchers alike understand how various groups have addressed similar problems, opening doors to interesting research possibilities. Not all vertebrates follow the mammalian model of tissue and organ structure. When dealing with unique species, we see some structures taken beyond their ‘normal’ function. Comparative histology allows us to understand the structural responses underlying the physiology unique to each vertebrate group. Presents the histology of a wide range of vertebrates, representative of all the major classes and families, with examples ranging from amphioxus to primates Includes an image gallery with over 500 flat images and 50+ virtual microscopy slides Contains electronic content features cross linking between text, tables and the image gallery

Book Vertebrate Skeletal Histology and Paleohistology

Download or read book Vertebrate Skeletal Histology and Paleohistology written by Vivian de Buffrénil and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-24 with total page 1882 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vertebrate Skeletal Histology and Paleohistology summarizes decades of research into the biology and biological meaning of hard tissues, in both living and extinct vertebrates. In addition to outlining anatomical diversity, it provides fundamental phylogenetic and evolutionary contexts for interpretation. An international team of leading authorities review the impact of ontogeny, mechanics, and environment in relation to bone and dental tissues. Synthesizing current advances in the biological problems of growth, metabolism, evolution, ecology, and behavior, this comprehensive and authoritative volume is built upon a foundation of concepts and technology generated over the past fifty years.

Book Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates

Download or read book Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates written by W. N. Parker and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates: With Three Hundred and Seventy-Figures and a Bibliography The developmental history of this book has been somewhat complicated. The first German edition appeared in 1882, under the title of Lehrbuch der vergleichende Anatomie der Wirbeltiere, and a second edition followed in 1886. In 1884, a short Grundriss was published, which, after passing through four editions and gradually increasing in size, replaced the Lehrbuch under the title of Vergleichende Anatomie der Wirbeltiere, in 1902. A farther edition appeared in 1906, and this was followed by a shorter Einfuhrung in 1907: the latter was written to meet the requirements of beginners, and it contains no bibliography. The first and second English editions (1886 and 1897) were based respectively on the first and third editions of the Grundriss, and considerable modifications in detail were introduced. The present (third) edition, which has been almost entirely re-written, was prepared from the German editions of 1906 and 1907, and I am much indebted to Professor Wiedersheim for allowing me to make such alterations as seemed desirable in the interests of English students, and for the pleasure of his collaboration last summer, when I had the advantage of discussing various points with him personally. The general plan of the original has been retained throughout, but I found it advisable to extend some portions and to abridge others, besides making various minor modifications. After re-editing by Professor Wiedersheim, the bibliography given in the German original is inserted entire, except that the titles and references have been abbreviated and slight rearrangements made in order to save space: I have also ventured to introduce a few additions. Book Atlas of Comparative Sectional Anatomy of 6 invertebrates and 5 vertebrates

Download or read book Atlas of Comparative Sectional Anatomy of 6 invertebrates and 5 vertebrates written by Géza Zboray and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-04 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas contains 189 coloured images taken from transversal, horizontal and sagittal sections of eleven organisms widely used in university teaching. Six invertebrate and five vertebrate species – from the nematode worm (Ascaris suum) to mammals (Rattus norvegicus) – are shown in detailed images. Studying the macrosections with unaided eyes, with a simple magnifier or binocular microscope might be of great help to accomplish traditional anatomical studies and to establish a certain spatial experience/space perception. This volume will be of great interest for biology students, researchers and teachers of comparative anatomy. It might act as supporting material of practical courses. Furthermore, medical practitioners, agricultural specialists and researchers having an interest in comparative anatomy might also benefit from it.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This high-quality laboratory manual may accompany any comparative anatomy text, but correlates directly to Kardong's Vertebrates: Comparative Anatomy, Function, Evolution text. This lab manual carefully guides students through dissections and is richly illustrated. First and foremost, the basic animal architecture is presented in a clear and concise manner. Throughout the dissections, the authors pause strategically to bring the students' attention to the significance of the material they have just covered.
