Download or read book COMPARATIVE STUDY OF LAKES FOR EVALUATING OLIGOTROPHIC MESOTROPHIC EUTROPHIC AND HYPEREUTROPHIC CONDITIONS IN CHANDRAPUR DISTRICT OF MAHARASHTRA written by Dr. Kavita S. Raipurkar and published by Lulu Publication. This book was released on 2021-02-21 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water: an Elixir of Life Water is a dynamic system and important natural resource. It contains living as well as non living, organic and inorganic and also soluble and insoluble substances. Its constituent varies with time. Any change in the natural composition causes disturbances to the equilibrium system. This result in the degradation of water making it unfit for desirable use (Murhekar, G.H., 2011 and Maiti S.K., 2011). Water is the essence of life which dominates completely in chemical composition of all organisms. The surface water and ground water resources of any nation plays a major role in industrial, agriculture, live stock production, forestry and fisheries, hydropower generation, navigation and recreational activities etc. (Kadam et al., 2014). India receives about 1400-1800 mm of rainfall annually. It is estimated that 96% of this water is used for agriculture, 3% for domestic use and 1% for industrial activity. An analysis conducted in 1982 revealed that about 70% of all the available and the unavailable water in our country is polluted (Dara and Mishra, 2014).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aquatic Ecotoxicology: Advancing Tools for Dealing with Emerging Risks presents a thorough look at recent advances in aquatic ecotoxicology and their application in assessing the risk of well-known and emerging environmental contaminants. This essential reference, brought together by leading experts in the field, guides users through existing and novel approaches to environmental risk assessment, then presenting recent advances in the field of ecotoxicology, including omics-based technologies, biomarkers, and reference species. The book then demonstrates how these advances can be used to design and perform assays to discover the toxicological endpoints of emerging risks within the aquatic environment, such as nanomaterials, personal care products, PFOS and chemical mixtures. The text is an invaluable reference for any scientist who studies the effects of contaminants on organisms that live within aquatic environments. - Provides the latest perspectives on emerging toxic risks to aquatic environments, such as nanomaterials, pharmaceuticals, chemical mixtures, and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) - Offers practical guidance on recent advances to help in choosing the most appropriate toxicological assay - Presents case studies and information on a variety of reference species to help put the ecotoxicological theory into practical risk assess

Book Freshwater Meiofauna

Download or read book Freshwater Meiofauna written by Simon D. Rundle and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meiofauna are a diverse and numerous component of the fauna in freshwater ecosystems, but have been mostly ignored by freshwater scientists. Freshwater Meiofauna aims to raise the awareness of this enigmatic, microscopic component of the freshwater biota, by providing the first-ever, comprehensive review of their biology and ecology. The first section of the book gives indepth accounts of the systematics, morphological characteristics, life histories and ecological requirements of the main freshwater meiofaunal taxa (i.e. microturbellarians, rotifers, gastrotriches, nematodes, water mites, microcrustaceans and tardigrades). The second section then takes an integrated approach to review the current state-of-play in meiofaunal ecological research in freshwaters, addressing important issues, such as the importance of meiofaunal taxa in the trophic dynamics of freshwater ecosystems and the process underpinning the distribution patterns observed in meiofaunal assemblages. This book should appeal to a wide range of freshwater scientists, including novices in the study of freshwater meiobenthology and established researchers in freshwater ecology, for whom the meiofauna represent an unopened "black box". Our ultimate goal is that this book will serve to promote the idea that the zoology of freshwater habitats concerns more than just fish, macroinvertebrates and microbes.
