  • Pages : 163 pages

Download or read book Law and Food written by Salvatore Mancuso and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a range of insights on the relationship between food and law. Over time, religions have multiplied food prohibitions and prescriptions, customs have redistributed land, shared its occupancy in creative ways, or favoured communal property so that everyone could have access to food. In turn, laws have multiplied to facilitate food trade, security, safety, traceability, and also to promote and protect food and wine production, using trademarks and geographical denominations. This volume brings a comparative and interdisciplinary approach to examine some of the most heavily debated issues in the interaction between food, in all forms, and the law. Topics covered include food security, food safety, food quality, intellectual property, and consumer protection. As well as highlighting current issues, the work also points to new challenges in this field. The book will be a valuable resource for researchers and policy-makers working in the area of Food Law and Comparative Law.

Book Fundamental Principles and Objectives of a Comparative Food Law General introduction and field application

Download or read book Fundamental Principles and Objectives of a Comparative Food Law General introduction and field application written by Edouard Jean Bigwood and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The complexity of food production, transportation, manufacturing, and marketing has given rise to the necessity of formulating international standards and policies for food control; this subject was addressed by the Food Law Research Centre set up by Brussels University in 1975. The goal of the Centre's investigations was to define the characteristics of European food laws, analyze the principles, trends and aims on which the laws are based, and trace their evolution. The resulting study is presented along the following lines: general definition of food law, the necessity for it, and the underlying principles; the concept of food as defined by each European country; socioeconomic, geographic, and sociolegal factors; national characteristics as motivation for laws; criteria of food quality (e.g., vitamination, diet foods, use of enzymes or irradiation, additives); various structures of local or national law; regulatory organizations and procedures; methods of control and judicial sanction; and consumer education. The study concludes with a suggested outline for a modern food law.

Book Food Education and Gastronomic Tradition in Japan and France

Download or read book Food Education and Gastronomic Tradition in Japan and France written by Haruka Ueda and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-24 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on ethical and sociological theories of food, this book presents a new approach to food education that moves beyond nutrition-centred education. Food education has gained increasing scientific and political importance in many countries as a promising way to change contemporary eating. However, many practices fail to address two epistemological obstacles regarding its very components – ‘food’ and ‘education’. Food has largely been thought of from a nutritionistic viewpoint alone and the ethical issues over children’s freedom of choice and well-being have been absent. This book resolves these problems by applying ethical and sociological theories of food and analysing food education in two pioneering countries: Japan and France. The book focuses on taste education and gastronomy as two key concepts which have great potential to positively impact food education. Taste education is a promising alternative to nutrition-centred pedagogy which foregrounds the experience and pleasure of eating food, creating an environment for taste sensibility and food curiosity. From taste education, the picture can be broadened to examine the role and impact of gastronomy in food education. Examining the cultural traditions of France and Japan reveals how gastronomy can impact eating habits and food cultures and how these criteria should be an intrinsic part of food education. The book concludes by constructing an integrative theory for food education that moves beyond nutrition-centred education for the benefit of one’s well-being. This book will greatly interest students, scholars, policymakers and educators working on food education, food-related issues at the intersection between nutritional and social sciences, and ‘gastronomes’ searching for a pedagogical guide for developing their capabilities to eat in a more humanistic way.

Book World History in Documents

Download or read book World History in Documents written by Peter N. Stearns and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While world history materials date back to prehistoric times, the field itself is relatively young. Indeed, when the first edition of Peter Stearns’s best-selling World History in Documents was published in 1998, world history was poised for explosive growth, with the College Board approving the AP world history curriculum in 2000, and the exam shortly thereafter. At the university level, survey world history courses are increasingly required for history majors, and graduate programs in world history are multiplying in the U.S. and overseas. World events have changed as rapidly as the field of world history itself, making the long-awaited second edition of World History in Documents especially timely. In addition to including a new preface, focusing on current trends in the field, Stearns has updated forty percent of the textbook, paying particular attention to global processes throughout history. The book also covers key events that have altered world history since the publication of the first edition, including terrorism, global consumerism, and environmental issues.

Relatively minor differences in diet among size classes and among seasons were noted; however, between areas the diet varied considerably.
