Book Elements of the Comparative

Download or read book Elements of the Comparative written by W. Newton Parker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of the Comparative: Anatomy of Vertebrates The brevity of the descriptions is, however, to some extent made up for by the number of woodcuts. Most of these are taken from the German edition, but several new figures have been added. The arrangement of the book according to organs, and not according to groups of animals, is likely to render it more difficult for a beginner, and a general knowledge of zoology will be of great assistance. The pages on which the different groups are described are, however, collected together in the index, so that the sections relating to any one group can be easily referred to. The present arrangement seems to be the only possible one if the book is to be founded on a scientific basis, for it is most important that the student should grasp the fact that there has been an evolution of organs, as well as of animals. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates In order that this may be realized, embryology is made the basis, the various structures being traced from the undiflerentiated egg into the adult condition. This renders it easy to compare the embryonic stages of the higher vertebrates with the adults of the lower and to recognize the resemblances and diflerences between organs in the separate classes. There has been no attempt to describe the strue ture of any species in detail, but rather to outline the general mor phology of all vertebrates. To aid in the discrimination of the broader features and the more minor details, two sizes of type have been used, the larger for matter to be mastered by the student, the smaller for details and modifications in the separate classes to which reference may need to be made. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates: With Three Hundred and Seventy-Figures and a Bibliography Histology is a subdivision of anatomy which concerns the structural elements - the building-stones of the organism, and the combination of these to form tissues. Various combinations of the tissues give rise to organs, and the organs, again, combine to form systems of organs. Book Comparative Anatomy and Physiology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Comparative Anatomy and Physiology Classic Reprint written by F. Jeffrey Bell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-07-28 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Comparative Anatomy and Physiology The reader who is sufficiently acquainted with the progress in vertebrate physiology during the last phase of physiological methods, and who knows how scattered and incomplete are the investigations which have been made by the same kind of physical and chemical inquiries on invertebrate animals, will not expect to find in the present volume any complete statement of the physiology of animals, in the sense in which that term is now used. Such observations as have been made without especial reference to the vital processes of man are, for the most part, very valuable and suggestive but the time to write a text book oi Comparative Physiology, as we now understand it, has not yet arrived. Download or read book Elements of the Comparative Anatomy of the Vertebrate Animals written by Rudolf Wagner and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of the Comparative Anatomy of the Vertebrate Animals: Designed Especially for the Use of Students The want of some good elementary work in our own language, at least of one that, within a small compass and reasonable price, should express the amount of our knowledge upon the Anatomy of the several classes of Vertebrate Animals, was the chief inducement to my undertaking the translation of the present work, in the selection of which I was encouraged by the very favorable light in which Dr. Rudolph Wagner had been already made known to the Medical Profession through his "Elements of Physiology," so ably edited by Dr. Willis. The thorough practical knowledge which he possesses of his subject, combined with the clearness and brevity of his style, render indeed his works the very best introductions that are extant to the sciences of Physiology and Comparative Anatomy. "The Lehrbuch der Zootomie," of Dr. Wagner, having lately arrived at a second edition in Germany, has given the Author an opportunity of thoroughly remodelling the work, and introducing those improvements which time, experience, and more extended knowledge, have suggested to him. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of the Anatomy of Vertebrated Animals The present work is intended to provide students of comparative anatomy with a condensed statement of the most important facts relating to the structure of verte brated animals, which have hitherto been ascertained. Except in a very few cases, I have intentionally abstained from burdening the text with references and, therefore, the reader, while he is justly entitled to hold me respon sible for any errors he may detect, will do well to give me no credit for what may seem original, unless his knowledge is sufficient to render him a competent judge on that head. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Comparative Anatomy By treating the subject more concisely I have been able to increase the real matter to a certain extent, without enlarging the size of the book. I have, of course, only dealt with what has seemed to me to be Of capital importance; many, and even important, details have been omitted, owing to the limits imposed by the aim of the book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Illustrations of Zoology: Invertebrates and Vertebrates This book is a companion to a course of Systematic Zoology. The need of such a book has become obvious to us from some years of teaching. The study of class-types, now a part of every systematic course, is already well provided for by Professor rolleston's Forms of Animal Life, and the many books that have modelled themselves upon it. The Zoological Laboratory, too, is not without its many and admirable text-books. There is room, however, and need for a form of book such as we offer to the public in these Illustrations of Zoology. In it the student will find illustrated, by Diagram or Drawing, the structure of forms selected from all the great Classes of Vertebrates and Invertebrates, and the illustrations arranged in systematic order. Our design is to help the student of Comparative Anatomy in the most important and the most difficult part of a systematic Course of Lectures. In dealing with the Vertebrates, we could have wished to illustrate types of all the Orders as well as of the Classes, but to have done this would have made the book larger and more expensive without making it proportionally more useful. Besides, the general text-books, as a rule, give with a fair degree of fulness the chief features of the Vertebrate Orders.
