Book Comparative Analysis of FDI in China and India

Download or read book Comparative Analysis of FDI in China and India written by Swapna S. Sinha and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2008-01-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some emerging markets have been leaders in the world and have grown at a higher rate benefiting from higher Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) by Trans National Corporations (TNCs) and some have been laggards and have not able to attract as much FDI and grow that efficiently. Why China gets 60 billion dollars FDI annually as compared to India which does not even get 6 billion dollars, is an intriguing question? This dissertation explores the determinants of FDI in such emerging economies to answer the above question. What has India done till now to attract FDI? What has been China s strategy to become the most FDI attracting country in the world? What lessons India can learn from China and improve its FDI inflow? The study attempts to theorize what lessons emerging markets that are laggards in attracting FDI, such as India, can learn from leader countries in attracting FDI, such as China in the global economy. This study fills the gap in the literature by analyzing the Indian data at the relevant micro state level for the period 1992-2005 and comparing it with the Chinese data for period of 1978-2005 at the economic zone level. Indian FDI attraction model was tested using OLS and autoregressive models and it was found that India has grown due to its human capital, size of the market, rate of growth of the market, and political stability. For China, congenial business climate factors comprising of making structural changes, creating strategic infrastructure at SEZs, and taking strategic policy initiatives of providing economic freedom, opening up its economy, attracting diaspora, and creating flexible labor laws were identified as drivers for attracting FDI and the model using these variables was tested with OLS regression and autoregressive regression analysis and were found significant. This study might help countries such as PIN (Pakistan, Indonesia, and Nigeria) which, will follow the BRIC economies in growth, want to grow, to broaden their understanding and formulate policies to attract FDI. At the enterprise level, it might help TNCs in understanding markets and formulating entry and growth strategies in these markets.

Book Impact of Merger Control Process on Foreign Direct Investment

Download or read book Impact of Merger Control Process on Foreign Direct Investment written by Kanha Sawlani and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An action of a person can be said to reflect the ideologies one may have regarding a specific topic. The same is applicable to the actions of complex regulatory and trading structures like government and corporations which may incline towards ideologies like capitalism or socialism. Foreign direct investment as a concept is affected by these two ideologies and has remained at the heart of this tumultuous relationship. In order to expand, corporations use mechanisms like 'mergers' to spread their legs out of the territorial boundaries and engage in foreign investments. Government enacts competition laws to regulate this realm of investment by forming various regulatory entities which review these mechanisms like 'mergers' and the subsequent impact they may have on host economies. The primary objective of this paper will be to analyse the process of 'merger control' in the Competition laws of China and India in the limelight of its impact on foreign direct investments. This essay will also highlight the role played by regulatory authorities and will point out certain 'procedural fairness' issues in the 'merger-control' process adopted by these jurisdictions which are relevant to the study of the relationship between their competition and foreign investment laws.

The Oxford Handbook of Industrial Hubs and Economic Development adopts an interdisciplinary approach to examine the conceptual underpinnings, review empirical evidence of regions and economies, and extract pertinent lessons for policy reasearchers and practitioners on the key drivers of success and failure for industrial hubs. This Handbook illustrates the diverse and complex nature of industrial hubs and shows how they promote industrialization, economic structural transformation, and technological catch-up. It explores the implications of emerging issues and trends such as environmental protection and sustainability, technological advancement, shifts in the global economy, and urbanization.

Book Inward Foreign Investments in India and China A Comparative Perspective

Download or read book Inward Foreign Investments in India and China A Comparative Perspective written by and published by KW Publishers Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2013-12-15 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India and China have been the major recipients of FDI inflows in the last two decades. The level and growth of the flows though have been much higher for China than India. This phenomenon have given rise to a huge literature exploring the reasons for such divergence. Data shows that the matters have compounded after the global financial crisis. During the crisis year the gap was almost eliminated. Interestingly, after the crisis year the flows diverged sharply with increase for China and slow down for India. This was even when China was more affected initially by the crisis than India. The paper thus takes a fresh look at the factors responsible for the divergence in FDI inflows to the two countries especially after the Global Financial Crisis. Simple correlations between probable determinants and FDI flows for both the countries have been used to understand the causes of the divergence and their implications.

The expert contributors examine a range of controversial issues including the contribution of the relatively large volume of FDI in China to its growth, whether India should fully liberalise its FDI regime and the impact of Mexico's membership of NAFTA on the volume of FDI it has attracted. Malaysia's economic policies, which appear to have attracted relatively large volumes of FDI but failed to generate the hoped for transmission of technology and skills are also questioned, along with the role of corruption in limiting the contribution of FDI to achieving social goals in Sub-Saharan Africa. The impressive record of the Irish Republic in attracting and harnessing FDI to development objectives is examined closely and provides a detailed analysis of policies likely to promote efficient utilisation of FDI.
