Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compact Heat Exchangers: Selection, Design, and Operation, Second Edition, is fully revised to present the most recent and fundamental ideas and industrial concepts in compact heat exchanger technology. This complete reference compiles all aspects of theory, design rules, operational issues, and the most recent developments and technological advancements in compact heat exchangers. New to this edition is the inclusion of micro, sintered, and porous passage description and data, electronic cooling, and an introduction to convective heat transfer fundamentals. New revised content provides up-to-date coverage of industrially available exchangers, recent fouling theories, and reactor types, with summaries of off-design performance and system effects and installations issues in, for example, automobiles and aircraft. Hesselgreaves covers previously neglected approaches, such as the Second Law (of Thermodynamics), pioneered by Bejan and co-workers. The justification for this is that there is increasing interest in life-cycle and sustainable approaches to industrial activity as a whole, often involving exergy (Second Law) analysis. Heat exchangers, being fundamental components of energy and process systems, are both savers and spenders of energy, according to interpretation. Contains revised content, covering industrially available exchangers, recent fouling theories, and reactor types Includes useful comparisons throughout with conventional heat exchangers to emphasize the benefits of CPHE applications Provides a thorough system view from commissioning, operation, maintenance, and design approaches to reduce fouling and fouling factors Compiles all aspects of theory, design rules, operational issues, and the most recent developments and technological advancements in compact heat exchangers

Download or read book Compact Heat Exchangers written by John E. Hesselgreaves and published by Pergamon Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the ideas and industrial concepts in compact heat exchanger technology that have been developed in the last 10 years or so. Historically, the development and application of compact heat exchangers and their surfaces has taken place in a piecemeal fashion in a number of rather unrelated areas, principally those of the automotive and prime mover, aerospace, cryogenic and refrigeration sectors. Much detailed technology, familiar in one sector, progressed only slowly over the boundary into another sector. This compartmentalisation was a feature both of the user industries themselves, and also of the supplier, or manufacturing industries. These barriers are now breaking down, with valuable cross-fertilisation taking place. One of the industrial sectors that is waking up to the challenges of compact heat exchangers is that broadly defined as the process sector. If there is a bias in the book, it is towards this sector. Here, in many cases, the technical challenges are severe, since high pressures and temperatures are often involved, and working fluids can be corrosive, reactive or toxic. The opportunities, however, are correspondingly high, since compacts can offer a combination of lower capital or installed cost, lower temperature differences (and hence running costs), and lower inventory. In some cases they give the opportunity for a radical re-think of the process design, by the introduction of process intensification (PI) concepts such as combining process elements in one unit. An example of this is reaction and heat exchange, which offers, among other advantages, significantly lower by-product production. To stimulate future research, the author includes coverage of hitherto neglected approaches, such as that of the Second Law (of Thermodynamics), pioneered by Bejan and co- workers. The justification for this is that there is increasing interest in life-cycle and sustainable approaches to industrial activity as a whole, often involving exergy (Second Law) analysis. Heat exchangers, being fundamental components of energy and process systems, are both savers and spenders of exergy, according to interpretation.

Book Heat and Mass Transfer Intensification and Shape Optimization

Download or read book Heat and Mass Transfer Intensification and Shape Optimization written by Lingai Luo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-26 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the heat and mass transfer intensification defined as a new paradigm of process engineering, or is it just a common and old idea, renamed and given the current taste? Where might intensification occur? How to achieve intensification? How the shape optimization of thermal and fluidic devices leads to intensified heat and mass transfers? To answer these questions, Heat & Mass Transfer Intensification and Shape Optimization: A Multi-scale Approach clarifies the definition of the intensification by highlighting the potential role of the multi-scale structures, the specific interfacial area, the distribution of driving force, the modes of energy supply and the temporal aspects of processes. A reflection on the methods of process intensification or heat and mass transfer enhancement in multi-scale structures is provided, including porous media, heat exchangers, fluid distributors, mixers and reactors. A multi-scale approach to achieve intensification and shape optimization is developed and clearly explained. Providing readers with a tool box of reflections, techniques, methods, supported by literature reviews, Heat & Mass Transfer Intensification and Shape Optimization: A Multi-scale Approach will be a key guide for students, a teaching aid for lecturers and a source of inspiration for future research subjects.

Book Up to Date Waste to Energy Approach

Download or read book Up to Date Waste to Energy Approach written by Petr Stehlik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Putting forward an up-to-date waste-to-energy approach that combines experience, sophisticated modeling and technical-economic analysis, this book examines the current need for the maximum utilization of energy from waste and the associated environmental impacts. It outlines step-by-step procedures for a complex and original waste-to-energy approach from the idea to its industrial application. With waste incinerators and industrial plants producing large amounts of pollutants, municipalities as well as smaller decentralized operations are beginning to focus on waste research. The principal advantage of utilizing research findings is the ability to apply a complex approach “from idea to industrial implementation” with respect to the needs of the market established by thorough market analysis. This book builds on this concept with an original approach that takes into consideration geographical aspects, the specifics of regions/micro-regions and technological units and/or equipment. Key areas discussed and analyzed in the text include: strategic planning of energy-source locations according to the nature of the respective region or microregion; types and amounts of wastes; logistics etc. using original mathematical models; consideration of on-site processing of various types of waste, taking into account the character of the region (agricultural, industrial etc.); tailor-made technologies for energy recovery from various types of wastes; implementation of individual technologies with original elements; and support for environmental protection based on advanced flue gas (i.e. off-gas in the case of incineration) cleaning methods.
