Book Innovative Community Change Practices

Download or read book Innovative Community Change Practices written by Norman Walzer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The national recession forced many communities to examine new and innovative ways to promote local economic development, resulting in long-term community changes. New techniques and approaches were used to identify available opportunities and programs which could take advantage of development opportunities. A common theme among the contributions to this book is a focus on building leadership capacity, and several chapters discuss the successful practices which are aimed at bringing new leaders into local development efforts. Especially important are ways to identify youth and young adults, and designing programs that bring them into active leadership roles within community development efforts. On a broader scale, several authors present material regarding building local entrepreneurship capacity, and recognizing that entrepreneurs at different stages in their development have different training and support needs. The discussions in this book will help local policymakers and development practitioners better understand the various development techniques, and find ways to build capacity within their community, stimulating development. This information will be especially useful for groups interested in engaging youth and populations who, in the past, have not been especially active in discussions about community and economic development. This book was originally published as a special issue of Community Development.

Book Practical Peer to Peer Teaching and Learning on the Social Web

Download or read book Practical Peer to Peer Teaching and Learning on the Social Web written by Hai-Jew, Shalin and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-11-19 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the Social Web, people share their enthusiasms and expertise on almost every topic, and based on this, learners can find resources created by individuals with varying expertise. Through this trend and the wide availability of video cameras and authoring tools, people are creating DIY resources and sharing their knowledge, skills, and abilities broadly. While these resources are increasing in availability, what has not been explored is the effectiveness of these resources, peer-to-peer teaching and learning, and how well this content prepares learners for professional roles. Practical Peer-to-Peer Teaching and Learning on the Social Web explores the efficacies of online teaching and learning with materials by peers and provides insights into what is made available for teaching and learning by the broad public. It also considers intended and unintended outcomes of open-shared learning online and discusses practical ethics in teaching and learning online. Covering topics such as learner roles and instructional design, it is ideal for teachers, instructional designers and developers, software developers, user interface designers, researchers, academicians, and students.

Book Promoting the Health of the Community

Download or read book Promoting the Health of the Community written by Julie Ann St. John and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Community health workers (CHWs) are an increasingly important member of the healthcare and public health professions who help build primary care capacity. Yet, in spite of the exponential growth of CHW interventions, CHW training programs, and CHW certification and credentialing by state agencies, a gap persists in the literature regarding current CHW roles and skills, scope of practice, CHW job settings, and national standards. This collection of contributions addresses this gap by providing information, in a single volume, about CHWs, the roles CHWs play as change agents in their communities, integration of CHWs into healthcare teams, and support and recognition of the CHW profession. The book supports the CHW definition as defined by the American Public Health Association (APHA), Community Health Worker Section (2013), which states, “A community health worker is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served.” The scope of the text follows the framework of the nationally recognized roles of CHWs that came out of a national consensus-building project called “The Community Health Worker (CHW) Core Consensus (C3) Project”. Topics explored among the chapters include: Cultural Mediation Among Individuals, Communities, and Health and Social Service Systems Care Coordination, Case Management, and System Navigation Advocating for Individuals and Communities Building Individual and Community Capacity Implementing Individual and Community Assessments Participating in Evaluation and Research Uniting the Workforce: Building Capacity for a National Association of Community Health Workers Promoting the Health of the Community is a must-have resource for CHWs, those interested in CHW scope of practice and/or certification/credentialing, anyone interested in becoming a CHW, policy-makers, CHW payer systems, CHW supervisors, CHW employers, CHW instructors/trainers, CHW advocates/supporters, and communities served by CHWs.
