Book The Ideas That Conquered The World

Download or read book The Ideas That Conquered The World written by Michael Mandelbaum and published by Public Affairs. This book was released on 2002-09-04 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuing in the same tradition as Francis Fukuyama's The End of History, political science professor (and senior fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations) Mandelbaum continues the argument that capitalism and democracy are inextricably linked and that so-called "free markets" have emerged as indisputably triumphant in the world of contesting political and economic ideas. In exploring the political affairs of the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and China, he advances two propositions about liberal democracies that may seem surprising to observers of the current international scene: that democracies tend to conduct peaceful foreign affairs and that free markets naturally lead to democracy. Download or read book The Strangest Dream written by Robbie Lieberman and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2000-05-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on extensive archival material and oral history, Robbie Lieberman illustrates how grassroots peace activism in the United States became associated with Communist subversion after World War II, enabling proponents of the Cold War to virtually silence the opposition until the early 1960s. The persecution of peace activists as subversives dates back to colonial time, but the specific link between communism and peace developed out of the unique conditions of the Cold War-Communist agitation for peace, American notions of national security and freedom that rested on containing communism at all costs. Not until peace organizations challenged external and internal anti-Communist attacks were they able to achieve a new level of respectability. As Cold War tensions ease, it is important to assess the early years of the peace movement with regard to the issue of Communism that dominated American life in those years. With this book, Lieberman seeks to clarify attitudes about peace and the fate of the peace movement not previously addressed by a major work.

Book excerpt: Twelve centuries of endless warfare by Vatican’s high priests and their associates, the international banking nobility, are concentrated to subdue the Christian Orthodox Peoples into some new order of things. The erroneously touted “age-old animosities in the Balkans” is a fiction of age-old alien enemies. The conflict in the Serbian lands and the rest of the Balkans today is a mini pre-image of the coming Great Secular War III. The coming collapse of Vaticanism, Scottish-Grand-Orient Freemasonry, Zionism-Massoreticism, Debt-Banking, Oil Power, and Muslimism is heralded. Jugoslavia bravely resists their lackeys, the “Military-Industrial-Church Complex,” in turn using NATO as their front, as their mighty image and prestige is exposed and scattered to the winds.

This book was released on 2022-12-10 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mind-developing education is the only scientific way to real human development. Real human development and world-peace can only be achieved if proper mind-developmental education and training are introduced all over the world. In this extreme crisis period of the age, with the aim of real human development and world peace, the great philosopher, multi-talented wise sage and scientist ~ Maharshi MahaManas ~ has initiated a great spiritual revolution to free the entire mankind from suffering and misery. Pioneer of rational spirituality and devoted to human welfare ~ Sumeru Ray alias Maharshi MahaManas ~ To dispel the darkness of ignorance along with human-centered unrest, bloodshed and poverty all over the world, sought true human liberation in the path of Atma-Vikas-Yoga (self / mind-development yoga) called 'MahaManan'. By practicing his sure education and methods based on his spiritual science, radical good changes will come in human life. The key word of Maharshi MahaManas' revolutionary doctrine of human liberation ~ 'MahaVad' is: Most of the man-made problems around the world~ injustice - tyranny, oppression, fraud, poverty, unrest etc. are the root cause of people's lack of sufficient knowledge and consciousness, and mental illness. Blind-faith, superstition, hatred, violence, terror, all sprang from that. The only solution is 'MahaManan' 'महामनन' आत्म-विकास योग or मन-विकास शिक्षाक्रम (mind-developmental education) and practice. Maharshi said, real human development is possible only through proper आत्म-विकास शिक्षाक्रम or mind-developmental education. It is for this purpose that Maharshi MahaManas has developed a great and unparalleled educational system for creating a well-developed human beings with 'MahaManan' Meditation 'महामनन' आत्म-ध्यान (self-meditation) training for true human development and world peace! Real human development and world peace can be achieved only if 'Atma Vikas Yoga Sikshakram' आत्म विकास योग शिक्षाक्रम or mind-developmental education and training called 'MahaManan' is introduced everywhere. If true human development takes place through this mind-developmental education, only then will most human-centered problems and crises be solved. He soon aspired to build a world-class university of reasonable spirituality for true self / mind-development education and self-meditation training. Maharshi called upon all conscious people to extend their hand of cooperation to make this great initiative of human development a success. Along with that, he is also appealing to the government, to protect the next generation from the terrible difficult situation of the future, to make them healthy, rich in knowledge and consciousness, sufficiently developed people, that the government should include this psychological education in the curriculum of every school. At his young age, Maharshi traveled all over the country in search of truth and finally after a long period of penance in the Himalayas, he realized that the root cause of so many sufferings and problems of people is their lack of knowledge and consciousness and illness of body and mind. Most human-centered problems will be solved only if we can get rid of it. Then he developed an excellent human development education system through long-term pursuit and research. It is named - 'महामनन' आत्म-विकास योग शिक्षाक्रम ('MahaManan' self-development curriculum). After that he came down from the Himalayas and started teaching He has written several books with the aim of human development through mind-development. His books are available on other platform including Amazon. If you search the internet, you will find many of his articles, podcasts and videos on human development. In 2021, his research and discoveries on six important topics were published in various international science journals. Besides, he has been giving meditation training to many people in different places almost regularly. Through the Internet, his human development activities and his great doctrine of human liberation are gradually spreading all over the world. And many people have gradually taken his devotees and disciples and started practicing 'MahaManan' Atmavikash Yoga for mind-development.

Book Peace Movements International Protest and World Politics Since 1945

Download or read book Peace Movements International Protest and World Politics Since 1945 written by April Carter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a long tradition of opposition to war and organized peace campaigns date from 1815. Since 1945, however, modern weapons technology has threatened world wide destruction and has stimulated widespread protests. This book sketches in the background of thinking about peace and resistance to war before 1945, and then examines how public opposition to nuclear weapons and testing grew in the 1950s and early 1960s. Later chapters cover the major ressurgence of nuclear disarmament campaigns in the 1980s. The book also looks at how peace protest has spread from its origins in North America and North West Europe to embrace many parts of the world; opposition to nuclear testing has indeed been particularly strong in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands. The period 1945 to 1990 was dominated by the Cold War between the USA and USSR, and the role of the Soviet-sponsored World Peace Council caused difficulties for indeptendent peace groups in the West. During the 1980s the emergence of autonomous peace activity in a number of East European countries, and even on a very small scale in the USSR itself, transformed the possibilities for East-West co-operation between citizens to urge disarmament and political change. A chapter examines these developments. Opposition to all forms of militarism has spread in the last 30 years. This book charts the struggles to extend the right to conscientious objection to military service, and draft resistance to particular wars - for example in Southern Africa and Israel. It also looks in some detail at the growing opposition to the war in the Vietnam. The recent protests against the Gulf War are surveyed briefly in an epilogue.

Book The Oxford Handbook of the History of Communism

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of the History of Communism written by S. A. Smith and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-01-09 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact of Communism on the twentieth century was massive, equal to that of the two world wars. Until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, historians knew relatively little about the secretive world of communist states and parties. Since then, the opening of state, party, and diplomatic archives of the former Eastern Bloc has released a flood of new documentation. The thirty-five essays in this Handbook, written by an international team of scholars, draw on this new material to offer a global history of communism in the twentieth century. In contrast to many histories that concentrate on the Soviet Union, The Oxford Handbook of the History of Communism is genuinely global in its coverage, paying particular attention to the Chinese Revolution. It is 'global', too, in the sense that the essays seek to integrate history 'from above' and 'from below', to trace the complex mediations between state and society, and to explore the social and cultural as well as the political and economic realities that shaped the lives of citizens fated to live under communist rule. The essays reflect on the similarities and differences between communist states in order to situate them in their socio-political and cultural contexts and to capture their changing nature over time. Where appropriate, they also reflect on how the fortunes of international communism were shaped by the wider economic, political, and cultural forces of the capitalist world. The Handbook provides an informative introduction for those new to the field and a comprehensive overview of the current state of scholarship for those seeking to deepen their understanding.

Book Which Socialism Whose D tente

Download or read book Which Socialism Whose D tente written by Maud Bracke and published by Central European University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The 1968-1969 Czechoslovak crisis was first and foremost a major crisis of European detente. While the Prague Spring was made possible by the immediate and unchecked consequences of early detente in Europe, its crushing sharply brought out the contradictions of detente as understood by the global Cold War protagonists. In a similar way as the Czecho-slovak crisis reflected the ambivalence at the heart of detente, the West European Communist Parties' responses to it revealed the ambivalence of detente as a context for radical social change, either in the East of the West. The scholarly literature on the PCI and PCF has, often in an unproblematic way, understood the shift from Cold War to detente on the European continent in the mid-1960s as a development essentially positive to these parties. The present study argues against this and demonstrates how the shift from the Cold War of the 1950s to detente in Europe reformulated the impasse of revolution or radical change in the West, rather than putting an end to it."
