Workplace miscommunications, be they well-meaning or not, result in lost productivity, discontent, and even violence. This book answers the age-old leadership question: how do we get the best out of ourselves and others on the job? Relying upon her experiences as a practicing labor lawyer, corporate executive, officer, human resources executive, and an organizational development consultant, Diana Peterson-More has developed actionable, easy-to-implement, and practical steps to successful communication, which is the key to getting what we want from ourselves and others. The volume is filled with stories of workplace communications that worked, and those that didn't, and presents real-world solutions to ensure all communication will hit the mark.

Download or read book Communication in Turbulent Times written by Marita Vos and published by Vos & Schoemaker. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is characterised by a broad approach towards corporate communication, emphasising change and crisis. The focus is not on crises as an exceptional situation but rather on broader volatility in the environment. The purpose of this book is to increase the understanding of multi-stakeholder communication concerning organisational issues and crises. From the perspective of organisational management, this book clarifies how communication contributes to organisational resilience—the ability to adapt to a changing environment and mitigate emergency crises. In todays’ world, change is not the exception but a constant presence. Moreover, issues and risks occur that may grow to become crises. Coping with change and unexpected events, is what the concept of ‘resilience’ is about. Organisational resilience is the basis for the long-term viability of organisations in a turbulent environment. Communication, in various ways, is a bridging activity that supports the capacity of the organisation to function despite risks and disruptive incidents.

Book Leadership in Turbulent Times

Download or read book Leadership in Turbulent Times written by IntroBooks and published by IntroBooks. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulent times occur due to crises, which can happen at any time and in any organisation. Even if the firm is doing well today, it does not eradicate the possibility of the firm being thrown into trouble in the nearest future. No one can predict the future. While leaders of a company are enjoying the good times, they should equally consider the possibility of turbulent times; as a result, they should prepare for eventualities. They should get themselves ready for those times that crisis will be the order of the day. No one wishes for crises, but the crisis does not come by wishing for them; they come a random and the causes can be internal or external. Preparing ahead of time can prevent the problems of under preparation for crises. A company and its management should understand how to manage crises situations when such arise. The leaders in a company should be visionary enough to get them set for any problem that may arise.

Book excerpt: Now an epic documentary event on the HISTORY Channel! The illuminating, bestselling exploration on leadership from Pulitzer Prize–winning author and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, and also the inspiration for the HISTORY Channel multipart series Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. “After five decades of magisterial output, Doris Kearns Goodwin leads the league of presidential historians” (USA TODAY). In her “inspiring” (The Christian Science Monitor) Leadership, Doris Kearns Goodwin draws upon the four presidents she has studied most closely—Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson (in civil rights)—to show how they recognized leadership qualities within themselves and were recognized as leaders by others. By looking back to their first entries into public life, we encounter them at a time when their paths were filled with confusion, fear, and hope. Leadership tells the story of how they all collided with dramatic reversals that disrupted their lives and threatened to shatter forever their ambitions. Nonetheless, they all emerged fitted to confront the contours and dilemmas of their times. At their best, all four were guided by a sense of moral purpose. At moments of great challenge, they were able to summon their talents to enlarge the opportunities and lives of others. Does the leader make the times or do the times make the leader? “If ever our nation needed a short course on presidential leadership, it is now” (The Seattle Times). This seminal work provides an accessible and essential road map for aspiring and established leaders in every field. In today’s polarized world, these stories of authentic leadership in times of apprehension and fracture take on a singular urgency. “Goodwin’s volume deserves much praise—it is insightful, readable, compelling: Her book arrives just in time” (The Boston Globe).

Book Managing Through Turbulent Times

Download or read book Managing Through Turbulent Times written by Anthony Holmes and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What shall we do as managers operating in unstable times when the reassurance we desire is absent and the uncertainty of today promises an unpredictable tomorrow?" Corporate management teams are living through the Chinese curse of 'may you live in interesting times' as they contemplate their exposure both directly and indirectly to the almost unprecedented turbulence in the global markets. In his first book, turnaround specialist Anthony Holmes explains how to approach management in turbulent operating conditions and what to do if your company encounters distress. It is based around his 7 key rules of crisis management, which are: 1. Obtain multiple opinions in the decision-making process 2. Retain close control over the implementation of policy 3. Reduce time pressure 4. Limit objectives 5. Maintain flexible options 6. Understand the nature and potential behaviour of the adversary 7. Maintain communication It also looks to illuminate the dark areas that create fear of the unknown and explains how to recognise them, how to mitigate their impact, what is feasible, when to seek help and from whom. The book draws on case histories of previous crises to extract techniques relevant to today's commercial environment and identify those that may seem logical but should be avoided. The intention is to prevent management from having to begin at the bottom of the learning curve and try to rediscover under pressure those techniques and processes that have been irrelevant and forgotten in the years since the last systemic crisis.
