Book Communicating with the World of Beings

Download or read book Communicating with the World of Beings written by Knut Helskog and published by Oxbow Books. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rock art found in the World Heritage sites in the Alta area, Arctic Norway, comprise thousands of images including reindeer and elk as well as fish, birds, boats, humans and geometric patterns. They contain information about peoples who lived in this northern area from about 5000 BC up until the birth of Christ; such as possible social organizations, hunting and trapping, beliefs, rituals, stories, legends, myths, cultural changes and continuities. Communicating with the world of beings addresses an understanding of the rock art in terms of communication with other people and other than-human beings. The figures could have been seen and experienced as symbols in rituals or as expressions of identity, position, power and rights, as depictions of real events and perhaps for use in storytelling. Through rock art, people might also have been able to communicate with other-than-human beings who ruled parts of the environment – in order to petition favors for themselves or others. These other-than-human beings may have been perceived as good and evil powers and spirits of the different worlds of the universe; the dead or souls; which also included the animals depicted or were even embodied in the stone. This communication may have been based on a belief that both living beings and inert objects and natural phenomena had souls, a belief that may have existed ever since the earliest settlements. Such an animistic belief means that everything was seen as having a consciousness and identity of its own, independent and imbued with a will. Therefore, it was essential that the different participants communicated with one another as equal partners. In this beautifully illustrated book Knut Helskog provides a lyrical and personal interpretation of the chronology, patterning and possible meanings behind this extraordinary landscape of prehistoric rock art.

Book Human and Mediated Communication around the World

Download or read book Human and Mediated Communication around the World written by Marieke de Mooij and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is unique in the sense that it offers a comprehensive review and analysis of human communication and mediated communication around the world. This is one of the first attempts to do so in a systematic, comprehensive way. It challenges the assumption that Western theories of human communication and mass communication have universal applicability. It surveys the applicability of mass communication theories to other than Western cultures. The book explains the influence of culture on all forms of communication behavior, be it personal, mediated or mass communication. It presents communication theories from around the world, incorporating a vast body of literature from Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. This updated information on important international perspectives that includes both interpersonal and mediated communication is presently not readily available in other sources. The book offers an integrated approach to understanding the working of electronic means of communication that are hybrid media combining human and mediated communication. These new media that are often presented as universal are even more culture-bound than the traditional media.

Book Communicating God s Word in a Complex World

Download or read book Communicating God s Word in a Complex World written by Daniel R. Shaw and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2003-08-04 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communicating God's Word in a Complex World reaches out to the growing number of missionaries, pastors, Bible translators and teachers, mission and theological educators and students dealing with communicating the gospel. This is increasingly difficult in today's pluralist and global contexts. What was God's message, and how has spreading that message changed through the generations? The answer to that question requires a hermeneutical process that seeks to understand the biblical text and the context in which it was originally presented. R. Daniel Shaw and Charles Van Engen say that contemporary proclaimers of God's word can model their approach after that of the writers of scripture, who reinterpreted and restated their received texts for their audiences. Thus, Gospel communication is impacted by the way humans know God. This, in turn, is informed by contexts. Communicating God's Word in a Complex World draws lessons from the biblical authors themselves as a guide for how best to present God's message.

Book Decoding the Social World

Download or read book Decoding the Social World written by Sandra Gonzalez-Bailon and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How data science and the analysis of networks help us solve the puzzle of unintended consequences. Social life is full of paradoxes. Our intentional actions often trigger outcomes that we did not intend or even envision. How do we explain those unintended effects and what can we do to regulate them? In Decoding the Social World, Sandra González-Bailón explains how data science and digital traces help us solve the puzzle of unintended consequences—offering the solution to a social paradox that has intrigued thinkers for centuries. Communication has always been the force that makes a collection of people more than the sum of individuals, but only now can we explain why: digital technologies have made it possible to parse the information we generate by being social in new, imaginative ways. And yet we must look at that data, González-Bailón argues, through the lens of theories that capture the nature of social life. The technologies we use, in the end, are also a manifestation of the social world we inhabit. González-Bailón discusses how the unpredictability of social life relates to communication networks, social influence, and the unintended effects that derive from individual decisions. She describes how communication generates social dynamics in aggregate (leading to episodes of “collective effervescence”) and discusses the mechanisms that underlie large-scale diffusion, when information and behavior spread “like wildfire.” She applies the theory of networks to illuminate why collective outcomes can differ drastically even when they arise from the same individual actions. By opening the black box of unintended effects, González-Bailón identifies strategies for social intervention and discusses the policy implications—and how data science and evidence-based research embolden critical thinking in a world that is constantly changing.

This book was released on 2017-03-08 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science and technology are embedded in virtually every aspect of modern life. As a result, people face an increasing need to integrate information from science with their personal values and other considerations as they make important life decisions about medical care, the safety of foods, what to do about climate change, and many other issues. Communicating science effectively, however, is a complex task and an acquired skill. Moreover, the approaches to communicating science that will be most effective for specific audiences and circumstances are not obvious. Fortunately, there is an expanding science base from diverse disciplines that can support science communicators in making these determinations. Communicating Science Effectively offers a research agenda for science communicators and researchers seeking to apply this research and fill gaps in knowledge about how to communicate effectively about science, focusing in particular on issues that are contentious in the public sphere. To inform this research agenda, this publication identifies important influences â€" psychological, economic, political, social, cultural, and media-related â€" on how science related to such issues is understood, perceived, and used.

Book Star Origins and Wisdom of Animals

Download or read book Star Origins and Wisdom of Animals written by Jacquelin Smith and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an animal communicator and psychic, I'm able to see, feel, hear, and know what an animal is communicating to me. Also, being clairvoyant, I can see an animal's aura and essence. I teach people in my workshops how to look beyond an animal's physical form and how to connect heart to heart with the essence of an animal. The key to hearing our animal companions' essence is to look beyond the body and to connect with the amazing soul of the being. The body happens to be a physical form that the soul has created in order to learn and to fulfill a purpose. Telepathic communication with animals is a natural way of communicating. It is like a telephone conversation between two people. The telephone wires are the available lines of consciousness open between us that make the call possible. Perhaps you remember the films, Men in Black I and II. They are not so far-fetched as you might think. In both films there's a pug named Frank. We could say his soul was wearing a disguise so that he could accomplish his mission on Earth without attracting a lot of attention. In this book, one dog's soul tells about being an inter dimensional traveler while another discusses how difficult it was adjusting to his cat body because he's only lived on Earth twice. You will read about a groundhog who walked up to me and put his paw on my shoe and a hawk who flew to me after I had communicated with her telepathically.

Book Interpersonal Interdimensional Intergalactic Volumes VI and VII

Download or read book Interpersonal Interdimensional Intergalactic Volumes VI and VII written by Edward W Skinner and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Volumes VI and VIII Skinner continues in his recording of personal experiences with Dark and Light Beings in his nine volume work called Interpersonal, Interdimensional, Intergalactic. Humans think they live only in a three-dimensional world of positive and negative humans. There is a fourth-dimensional world and beyond that is unseen by most humans unless they have strong intuitive or psychic abilities. Positive Aliens and Angels can be found in these higher dimensions and they impact human life on planet Earth substantially more than humans realize. This fourth-dimensional world also contains Negative Aliens and Other Dark Entities that affect life on planet Earth as well. This fourth-dimensional realm and those dimensions beyond it are referred to by many as the World of Spirit. The three-dimensional realm that humans reside in most of the time is also included in this World of Spirit. Whether they see it or not, humans are part of this World of Spirit. Also, whether or not humans believe it, there is a Divinely ordained balance of Light and Dark in all realms of existence. Beings from the World of Spirit can effortlessly materialize in the human three-dimensional world if there is a purpose to be served for either Good or Evil. In Volume VI Skinner only communicated with those Light Beings (positive Aliens and Angels) that had been involved in his personal experiences with Dark Aliens and Other Dark Entities in the unseen world. The responses of Light Beings in Skinner's dialogue will provide information that some humans will find of value in truly understanding life here on Earth and in the unseen World of Spirit. In addition, the communications may help provide more understanding of where humans come from before life on Earth, and where the soul returns to after life on Earth. Skinner will also remind that communicating with Light Beings as a human is only impossible if the human thinks it is impossible. In Volume VII, Edward Skinner writes of incarnations his soul has lived in this reality known as Earth. Skinner literally interviews some of his past lives on Earth about their living conditions, their hopes, and their dreams as well as the culture they lived in at the time. The lives are presented in the order they were recalled, and are a representative sample of lives on Earth. The presentation does not represent a progression of his soul. From his calculations, Skinner believes he has lived more than seventy-eight incarnations on Earth prior to his current life and will live more incarnations on Earth after this current life is over. An interview with a future life is included in this presentation. Although not included in this work, Skinner would like to point out to the reader that much of our experiences as a human are predestined or predetermined before we are even born. Humans may want to reconsider their current perspectives about any Law of Karma that life must abide by. Also, it should be noted that the possibilities of living simultaneous lives on Earth at once and/or living multi-dimensional lives at once are veryreal possibilities for humans living on Earth during any time period. Again, Skinner would remind that the notion of a human communicating with past or future lives is impossible only if the human thinks it is impossible.
