Book excerpt: The definitive, stand-alone companion book to the acclaimed documentary—now with 50 plant-based recipes and full-color photos to help you start changing your health for the better There's something terribly broken in our industrial food, medical, and pharmaceutical systems. What's going wrong? Can we really avoid the leading causes of death just by changing our diet? Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn, creators of the revolutionary What the Health and the award-winning Cowspiracy documentaries, take readers on a science-based tour of the hazards posed by consuming animal products—and what happens when we stop. What the Health will guide you on an adventure through this maze of misinformation with the same fresh, engaging approach that made the documentary so popular. Journey with Andersen and Kuhn as they crisscross the country, talking to doctors, dietitians, public health advocates, whistle-blowers, and world-class athletes, to uncover the truth behind the food we eat. With the help of writer Eunice Wong, they empower eaters with knowledge about the lethal entwining of the food, medical, and pharmaceutical industries, and about the corporate web that confuses the public and keeps Americans chronically—and profitably—ill. Plus, discover 50 recipes to help you reclaim your life and health, including: • Creamy Mac • PB&J Smoothie • Winter Lentil and Pomegranate Salad • Mom's Ultimate Vegan Chili • Black Bean Fudgy Brownies • Baked Apple Crumble with Coconut Cream If the film was a peephole, then the book knocks down the whole door, featuring expanded interviews, extensive research, and new personal narratives. There's a health revolution brewing. What the Health is your invitation to join.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Common Sense Diet is different from most other popular diets because the Common Sense Diet does not forbid the eating of any food you currently enjoy eating. However, foods that contain refined sugar such as candy, cookies, and similar sweets are not recommended. The Common Sense Diet allows you to create a unique diet for yourself based on what you truly enjoy eating. This means you may eat meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, nuts, bread, pasta, and dairy products if you enjoy eating these types of foods. The Common Sense diet also recommends that you include variety in each meal, and in your meals from day to day, and that you should not eat the same exact foods every day. The diet you create for yourself should enhance your short-term health, your long-term health, and it should help you gradually lose weight without being hungry all the time. This book provides detailed information on a lot of different foods so you can strategically select the exact foods you prefer in order to create well-balanced meals that will enhance your health, and help you lose weight, and satisfy your hunger so you are not always thinking about food and your next meal. Unlike other diets this book recommends modest simple exercises that will take about 2 or 3 minutes each morning so you can very gradually firm up your existing muscles, and create new muscles, without experiencing the pain and discomfort of sore muscles. Will the Common Sense Diet actually work for you? I don't know. However, it worked for me. I created this diet, and I wrote this book, and I lost 50 pounds (22.7 kg) in five months without being hungry all the time. However, it was not unusual for me to get a little hungry just before my next regular meal. If you have tried other diets and you did not like having some of your favorite foods on the forbidden food list, and you were hungry most of the time, and food occupied your thoughts during most of the day, and the diet didn't work for you in the long-term, and you gradually regained all the weight you lost, then perhaps now is the time to try something different. Instead of being told what you can eat and what you can't eat, perhaps being able to strategically and carefully select the foods you enjoy eating will help you gradually lose weight, and satisfy your hunger, and improve your health, and allow you to keep the weight you lose off your body for the rest of your life. More information about this diet is on my official website at: https: //www.commonsensediet.org/ Please note that the website begins with "https" and it ends with "org" and not with "com."

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Food and Life: Common-Sense Diet for the Fat and the Lean, the Sick and the Well, the Old and the Young Right dieting does not mean starvation or even discomfort. One definition of to diet, it is true, is to eat sparingly, and in the minds of most people diet conveys the idea of more or less self-denial. Modem dietitians have, however, restored to the word its original and primary meaning, which is to feed. The best medical authorities now agree that both those who are too fat and those who are too lean eat too little - that is, too little of what is good for them. Overweight is not necessarily caused by overfeeding, nor underweight by underfeeding. In both conditions the cause is most often found in not eating enough of die proper food for individual conditions. Right selection of foods rather than quantity determines the restoration of persons overweight or underweight to their proper proportions and symmetry.
