Book Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

Download or read book Beyond a Reasonable Doubt written by Larry Siekawitch and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-12-04 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered if there is anything to the concepts of God, religion, and miracles? Are you the kind of person that doesn’t just want to stick their head in the sand and be duped by someone who says “You just need to take a leap in the dark and believe”? I hear you. Or perhaps you are a Christian, but you have some doubts. I want to share the evidence for Christianity in a succinct, readable (with a slight touch of humor), and compelling way using the concept of American jurisprudence, which demands good reasoning but not necessarily one hundred percent proof to make its case. Average, commonsense people live this way all the time, and this book is for them. This book will benefit the average Christian, giving valuable information in a memorable way so that they can share their faith with confidence. It will also benefit those who don’t know Christ yet by its brevity, clarity, and persuasive nature. I begin talking about common sense using American jurisprudence and the concept of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. I then make a case using common sense to gradually move a person down the line from unbeliever to believer. I first help the atheist see why it is more reasonable to be an agnostic. Then I aid the agnostic in realizing it is more fitting to be a theist (a believer in a supreme being) than to stay agnostic. Next, I assist the theist into embracing Christianity. If there is a God, then it makes sense that He would reveal Himself in such a way that we don’t have to wander in the dark all our lives. Then I cover the thorny question of properly interpreting the Bible. I conclude with a satisfying answer to the legitimate question of why an all-powerful and all-loving God would allow so much evil and suffering in the world. Is there evidence for God and Jesus? I think you will be surprised.

Book Common Sense Applied to Religion the Bible and the People

Download or read book Common Sense Applied to Religion the Bible and the People written by James Zimmerhoff and published by . This book was released on 2017-09-20 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is the result of thirty years of devotion to the training of the human mind for the great end for which it was created. Early in that period it was felt that at the very foundation of such efforts were opposing theological theories, that seemed at war with both the common sense and the moral sense of mankind. In the progress of such duties, a work was prepared on Mental and Moral Science, as a text-book for the institution under the care of the writer, which was printed, but never published. After submitting this work to the criticism of a number of the leading minds of various schools and sects, it was found to contain so much that might result in theological controversy, that it was deemed modest and wise to wait until age, experience, and farther examination had lent their maturing influence. After a delay of over a quarter of a century, the conviction above stated not only remains, but has been strengthened by the discussions and developments that have intervened in that period. While the great practical truths both of natural and revealed religion have seemed constantly to be gaining a more controlling influence over the intellect and feelings of mankind, the theological dogmas referred to have been more and more evaded or rejected, even by those who receive and respect the Bible as containing authentic and authoritative revelations from God.At the same time, there is apparent a manifest and strong tendency, especially among the young and most highly-educated of both sexes, to infidelity; not to that species of a former age which involved a hatred and contempt for the Bible, nor to the entire rejection of it as a very respectable and useful collection of most interesting writings, but to a rejection of it as a sure and authoritative guide in faith and morals.Though there may be other assignable causes for this, it is certain that not the least powerful is the repellency of dogmas claimed to be contained in the Bible, which are revolting both to the intellect and to the moral nature of man.Instead of being able to meet their religious teachers with the assumption that all which they have felt to be contrary to reason, to common sense, and to common honesty is not contained in the Sacred Writings, many have gradually drawn off to the religion of reason and nature, and left the Bible to theologians and the Church. At the same time, there has been a new development of philanthropy, in which those who either repudiate the Bible as of any binding authority, or disallow its commonly-accepted teachings, are as prominent and earnest in works of benevolence as the most orthodox of any sect. To these are added religious teachers, who set forth the morality and benevolence demanded in the Bible as obligatory, and as satisfactorily deducible from the light of nature, so that no revelation is needful to make them more so. Meantime, in popular forms and by popular writers, all the most plausible and startling difficulties that oppose the claims of the Bible are widely disseminated, while little is done to counteract these influences.Another class of religionists has also arisen, that numbers probably its hundreds of thousands, the Spiritualists, who rest their faith on a new species of so-called revelations, which ordinarily clash with the accepted teachings of the Bible, and by vast numbers are received as of superior authority.Meantime the press and public lectures are extensively supplanting the pulpit as organs of moral and religious influence over large portions of the community, while a large part of the most popular speakers and writers avowedly reject the Bible as of any binding authority in deciding moral and religious questions.

Book excerpt: Religion was once the primary way to understand human behavior. This was certainly true when the book Alcoholics Anonymous was written in 1939. But, we have learned much over the past 80 years. Common Sense Recovery began as the journal of a long-standing member of AA during a time in his life when he was struggling to reconcile the religious language of Alcoholics Anonymous with his new-found atheism and scientific understanding of addiction and the recovery process. The short chapters articulate a non-religious, practical understanding of the fundamental principles at work in the program, and examine the 12 Steps from a secular perspective. Now in its third edition, this work continues to be a valuable guide for many who struggle with the religious nature and language of AA and contains important insights for the future of the fellowship.

Book Faith Reason and Common Sense

Download or read book Faith Reason and Common Sense written by Paul M. Roddick and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-05-14 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered where religion is concerned, what you really believe? In FAITH, REASON & COMMON SENSE the interdependence of religion and culture is examined with care and insight. Readers with strong religious convictions may be surprised to discover that the history of religion - every religion - is both a chronicle of heresy and a reconfiguration of belief. In his examination of the relationship between Faith and Reason, the author rejects the familiar premise that a life guided by one must exclude the other. Although he stresses the importance of examining `the faith of our fathers' he is respectful of those who, in a world dominated by science, find guidance and reassurance in their religion. Far ranging and insightful, drawing on a wealth of sources and opinions, there is something for everyone in this challenging and though-provoking study.

Download or read book Common Sense Is NOT So Common written by Webster Henry and published by Spirituality. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Common Condition Of Today's Secular Society As many pundits have noted, over the last 60 years we have seen a growing secularism, and in fact anti-religious fervor gain traction in the United States. The accelerated momentum of this movement has run head into the Judeo/Christian heritage established by the Country's founders. The push back from the Christian community and traditionalists, deemed by some to be the 'cultural wars', has been at best tepid. Many conservatives have conceded that the secularists have made progress. Often appearing as rigid and doctrinaire, traditionalists can't seem to counter the compelling mantra, "if it feels good and does not hurt anybody-- than why not do it " In actuality the above mantra is less shallow and self serving than it first may sound. I believe that it is the basis of most common behavior in the US today and more so around the World. Some students of the Bible will remind that this philosophy has fueled mankind's common behavior from creation? Did not the Jews begin an orgy of decadence and idol worship when Moses was not looking and was away receiving the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai? Did not the Nazis consider the Jews less than human so that when they were secretly exterminating them in the gas chambers it was OK - because the Third Reich believed that only the Arian race was in fact human? Therefore killing millions of Jews was not really "hurting anybody" because they weren't killing real people. The dangers of this relativist mentality are not readily apparent - therefore relativism is the common denominator propelling mankind into a new more dangerous age. Spiritual Walk leads to Uncommon Sense I have taken the time to establish this foundation because if you are beginning your walk in faith -the above will sound very unappealing. BUT this book can provide you, the reader with some very important tips about how to obtain an uncommon sense of peace in today's troubled world. Frankly we believe that it can only be achieved by carefully reading scripture and letting it speak to you. Though this thought today is uncommon - except to a remnant of a diminishing culture - both the author and I know it to be absolutely true. Since I have known the author for over 30 years I can speak authoritatively when I tell you that she is one who traveled extensively in her youth and experienced the real human tragedy emanating from the pagan relativist mantra. She is not a person who is "judgmental." But through her journey and walk she has seen that pagan secularism does in fact hurt people, damage families, increase the early termination of life via abortion, lead to societal breakdown and most surely stirs personal chaos and unrest. She has evolved into one of the most uncommonly spiritual women that I have ever known. Her book works for her. This book is a great beginning to those seeking answers and/or can be an old friend to those who have realized that the fruits of wisdom do not derive from the common world. Common sense grows from a spiritual journey that cannot be fully realized via intellectual debate or over thinking the human condition. That is why "Common Sense is NOT so Common."
