Book Commissioning of the PEP II High Power RF Systems

Download or read book Commissioning of the PEP II High Power RF Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors describe the commissioning of the high-power RF stations for the PEP-II B factory. This includes in-situ testing and conditioning of components after installation, phasing of cavities within each station and between stations in each ring, capture of first beam, stored-beam operation at low- and moderate-current, commissioning of feedback loops, and high-current operation. Performance of the overall system and of critical components such as klystrons, cavities, windows, tuners and the HOM suppression scheme is reported. Observation of beam motion and signals in the cavity and HOM loads suggest that the HOM impedance reduction necessary for high-current operation has been achieved.

Book Commissioning Experience with the PEP II Low level RF System

Download or read book Commissioning Experience with the PEP II Low level RF System written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The low-level RF system for PEP-II is a modular design housed in a VXI environment and supported by EPICS. All signal processing and control is done at baseband using in-phase and quadrature (IQ) techniques. Remotely configurable RF feedback loops are used to control coupled-bunch instabilities driven by the accelerating mode of the RF cavities. A programmable DSP based feedback loop is implemented to control phase variations across the klystron due to the required adjustment of the cathode voltage to limit cathode power dissipation. The DSP loop also adaptively cancels modulations caused by klystron power supply ripple at selected power line harmonics between 60 Hz and 10 kHz. The system contains a built-in baseband network analyzer which allows remote measurement of the RF feedback loop transfer functions and automated configuration of these loops. This paper presents observations and measured data from the system.

Book PEP II RF System Operation and Performance

Download or read book PEP II RF System Operation and Performance written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Low Energy Ring (LER) and High Energy Ring (HER) RF systems have operated now on PEP-II since July 1998 and have assisted in breaking all design luminosity records back in June 2001. Luminosity on PEP-II has steadily increased since then as a consequence of larger e+ and e- beam currents being accumulated. This has meant that the RF systems have inevitably been driven harder, not only to achieve these higher stored beam currents, but also to reliably keep the beams circulating whilst at the same time minimizing the number of aborts due to RF system faults. This paper details the current PEP-II RF system configurations for both rings, as well as future upgrade plans spanning the next 3-5 years. Limitations of the current RF system configurations are presented, highlighting improvement projects which will target specific areas within the RF systems to ensure that adequate operating overheads are maintained and reliable operation is assured. Book Status and Early Commissioning Results for the PEP II High Energy Ring

Download or read book Status and Early Commissioning Results for the PEP II High Energy Ring written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The High Energy Ring of the PEP-II B-Factory has been constructed in the PEP tunnel. It is now beginning beam commissioning. This report will address the status of the ring systems and our experience in commissioning the systems as well as the first beam running.

Book PEP II Status Report

Download or read book PEP II Status Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main design features of the PEP-II asymmetric two-ring electron-positron B Factory collider, built at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, are described. This facility will complete construction in June 1998. The high energy ring, completed in May 1997, has had 3 months of commissioning and successfully stored 0.75 A of electrons. The success of the high energy ring testing validates not only its ring components, but also the injection system, the RF system and the control system all of which are common to the two rings.

Book Operator Interface for the PEP II Low Level RF Control System

Download or read book Operator Interface for the PEP II Low Level RF Control System written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper focuses on the operational aspects of the low level RF control system being built for the PEP-II storage rings at SLAC. Subsystems requiring major operational considerations include displays for monitor and control from UNIX workstations, slow feedback loops and control sequences residing on microprocessors, and various client applications in the existing SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) control system. Since commissioning of PEP-II RF is currently in-progress, only those parts of the control system used during this phase are discussed in detail. Based on past experience with the SLC control system, it is expected that effort expended during commissioning on a solid user interface will result in smoother transition to full reliable 24-hour-a-day operation.

Book Commissioning the 90 Degree Lattice for the PEP II High Energy Ring

Download or read book Commissioning the 90 Degree Lattice for the PEP II High Energy Ring written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to benefit from further reduction of the vertical IP beta function of the PEP-II high energy ring (HER) the bunch length should be reduced. This will be achieved by changing the phase advance from 60 degree to 90 degree in the four arcs not adjacent to the IR region, thus reducing momentum compaction by about 30% and reducing bunch length from a present 12 mm down to 8.5 mm at low beam current. In preparation to implement the 90 degree lattice the main HER quadrupole and sextupole strings and their power supplies have been reconfigured. The synchrotron tune initially will be lower but can be brought back by raising the rf voltage. Beam emittance is held at 48 nmr by introducing a significant dispersion beat in the arcs. The lattice was successfully commissioned at currents up to 800 mA in August 2007. In this paper we will compare the actual machine with the predicted behaviour, explain the correction strategies used and give an overall assessment of the operation and the benefit of the new lattice configuration.

Book The PEP II Project

    Book Details:
  • Author :
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 1993
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 8 pages

Download or read book The PEP II Project written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The PEP-II project, a joint proposal of SLAC, LBL, and LLNL, will involve an upgrade of the PEP storage ring at SLAC to serve as an asymmetric B factory. The upgrade will involve replacing the vacuum and rf systems of PEP, which will serve as the high-energy ring (containing 9 GeV electrons), along with the addition of a new low-energy ring (containing 3.1 GeV positrons) mounted atop the high-energy ring. The present design status of the project and a summary of recent R & D results are presented here. If approved, the PEP-II project is ready to begin construction in October 1993.
