Download or read book How Small and Medium sized Enterprises in Developing Countries Can Protect the Ozone Layer written by and published by UNEP/Earthprint. This book was released on 2000 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook was designed for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to help them with their phase out efforts under the Montreal Protocol. It provides ways to eliminate or at least substantially reduce ODS use through illustration of case studies of specific SMEs who have succeeded using alternatives. It presents both technical and policy options that an SME can consider and eventually adopt for the long term, including resources and contacts that they can easily get in touch with. This publication is ideal for enterprises involved in refrigeration and air conditioning, foams, aerosols and solvents.

Book Impact on Energy Consumption and Environmental Degradation by Switching of Refrigerants in Small Scale Commercial Refrigeration Units

Download or read book Impact on Energy Consumption and Environmental Degradation by Switching of Refrigerants in Small Scale Commercial Refrigeration Units written by Anant Wadhwa and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Engineering - Power Engineering, , language: English, abstract: World population has reached 7 billion people in 2013 and there has been an increase in energy consumption, especially in emerging countries. In 2050 it will be more than 9 billion people living on the planet. Because of this, there has been a rapid increase in CO2 concentration levels, so the average planet temperature is rising, causing a greenhouse effect, as the CO2 is trapping in the heat and not releasing it. Consequently, ocean levels are rising, because of the shrinking polar ice caps. We also have seen an increase in the frequency of extreme atmosphere events around the globe. The refrigeration industry has contributed a lot to the global ozone depletion and global warming. To reduce the environmental impact by the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry – both commercial and domestic – there is an urgent need to look for solutions that are both ozone friendly and CO2 friendly (greenhouse effect friendly). Eradicating the damage to the environment has encouraged the industrial and commercial refrigeration industry to investigate refrigerant alternatives that reduce the environmental impact although a good transition to them will also depend on the training that technicians acquire, as well as the understanding of the current and future benefits for the companies and the end users. This thesis aims at such a system which is both above mentioned. Once such a system is designed, it is of the utmost importance to test it and compare it with the systems that are being used currently to assess the benefits of using such system. The thesis has a focus on the liquid cooling systems such as water coolers and small commercial systems that help attain cooling of the liquids to a set temperature. In this thesis, the improvement of energy consumption and environmental degradation prevention is attained by switching the refrigerant used from R134a (current) to R290 (Propane) which is a natural refrigerant and Hydro Carbon Blend which is a mixture of refrigerants but is safer and environmentally friendlier. A comparison of both systems is done against the current system in terms of efficiency, energy consumption and chemical properties with respect to global warming potential and ozone depletion potential and ultimately proven that natural refrigerants and HC Blends are the refrigerants of the future.

This book was released on 2015-08-28 with total page 1037 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the sustainability and safety of perishable foods has become a major consumer concern, and refrigeration systems play an important role in the processing, distribution, and storage of such foods. To improve the efficiency of food preservation technologies, it is necessary to explore new technological and scientific advances both in materials and processes. The Handbook of Research on Advances and Applications in Refrigeration Systems and Technologies gathers state-of-the-art research related to thermal performance and energy-efficiency. Covering a diverse array of subjects—from the challenges of surface-area frost-formation on evaporators to the carbon footprint of refrigerant chemicals—this publication provides a broad insight into the optimization of cold-supply chains and serves as an essential reference text for undergraduate students, practicing engineers, researchers, educators, and policymakers.

Book excerpt: With the commitment of developing and developed countries to phase out CFCs, HCFCs and other ozone depleting substances under the Montreal Protocol, the fishery industry must identify and adopt new non-CFC technologies. This publication provides examples of non-CFC technologies used in the fishery cold chain in some nine countries. It also includes an overview of refrigeration equipment used in the fishery industry, an introduction to alternative refrigerants, refrigerant data and sources of further information.

Book Technology Transfer for the Ozone Layer

Download or read book Technology Transfer for the Ozone Layer written by Stephen O. Andersen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-04 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Imagine the pride of earning the Nobel Prize for warning that CFCs were destroying the ozone layer. Then imagine that citizens, policymakers, and business executives heeded the warning and transformed markets to protect the earth. This book is the story of why we can all be optimistic about the future if we are willing to be brave and dedicated world citizens.' MARIO MOLINA, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and Professor, University of California This book tells how the Montreal Protocol, the most successful global environmental agreement so far, stimulated the development and worldwide transfer of technologies to protect the ozone layer.Technology transfer is the crux of the 230 international environmental treaties and is essential to fighting climate change. While debate rages about obstacles to technology transfer, until now there has been no comprehensive assessment of what actually works to remove the obstacles. The authors, leaders in the field, assess over 1000 technology transfer projects funded under the Montreal Protocol‘s Multilateral Fund and the Global Environment Facility, and identify lessons that can be applied to technology transfer for climate change.

Book Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Technical Options Committee 2002

Download or read book Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Technical Options Committee 2002 written by United Nations Environment Programme and published by UNEP/Earthprint. This book was released on 2003-09 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2002 assessment report, produced under the Montreal Protocol on ozone depleting substances, finds that technical progress has been made by the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump industry to comply with requirements to phase out CFCs and in several applications, HCFCs as well. However, there is still a significant amount of installed refrigeration equipment still using CFCs and HCFCs, and so service demand remains high and is best minimised by preventive service, containment, retrofit, recovery and recycling.
