Download or read book Structural Adhesives written by S.R. Hartshorn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adhesives in general and structural adhesives in particular are the subjects of much academic interest as well as commercial importance. Structural bonding, as a method of joining, offers a number of advantages over mechanical fastening. However, in order to achieve satisfactory results, the proper adhesive must be selected and the appropriate bonding procedures followed. The purpose of Structural Adhesives: Chemistry and Technology is to review the major classes of structural adhesives and the principles of adhesion and bonding as these relate to structural joints. Each chapter provides an overview of the topic under discussion with a list of references to the relevant literature. In addition to describing the chemistry involved, other aspects of structural adhesive technology are covered, such as formula tion, testing, and end uses. Some structural adhesives, especially epoxies and phenolics, have a long history of successful use and are now widely employed. Others, such as the structural acrylics and cyanoacrylates, are beginning to gain industrial acceptance. Urethanes and anaerobics have limited but important uses, while high-temperature adhesives are still largely in the research and development stage.
Download or read book Thermodynamics and Biophysics of Biomedical Nanosystems written by Costas Demetzos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the recent advances of thermodynamics and biophysics in drug delivery nanosystems and in biomedical nanodevices. The up-to-date book provides an in-depth knowledge of bio-inspired nanotechnological systems for pharmaceutical applications. Biophysics and thermodynamics, supported by mathematics, are the locomotive by which the drug transportation and the targeting processes will be achieved under the light of the modern pharmacotherapy. They are considered as scientific tools that promote the understanding of physicochemical and thermotropic functionality and behavior of artificial cell membranes and structures like nanoparticulate systems. Therefore, this book focusses on new aspects of biophysics and thermodynamics as important elements for evaluating biomedical nanosystems, and it correlates their physicochemical, biophysical and thermodynamical behaviour with those of a living organism. In 2018, Prof. Demetzos was honored with an award by the Order of Sciences of the Academy of Athens for his scientific contribution in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology.
Download or read book Modern Food Microbiology written by James M. Jay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-04-03 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fourth edition of Modern Food Microbiology is written primarily for use as a textbook in a second or subsequent course in microbiology. The previous editions have found usage in courses in food microbiology and applied microbiology in liberal arts, food science, food technology, nutritional science, and nutrition curricula. Although organic chemistry is a desirable prerequisite, those with a good grasp of biology and chemistry should not find this book difficult. In addition to its use as a textbook, this edition, like the previous one, contains material that goes beyond that covered in a typical microbiology course (parts of Chaps. 4, 6, and 7). This material is included for its reference value and for the benefit of professionals in microbiology, food science, nutrition, and related fields. This edition contains four new chapters, and with the exception of Chapter 15, which received only minor changes, the remaining chapters have undergone extensive revision. The new chapters are 17 (indicator organisms), 18 (quality control), 21 (listeriae and listeriosis), and 24 (animal parasites). Six chapters in the previous edition have been com bined; they are represented in this edition by Chapters 12, 13, and 14. In the broad area of food microbiology, one of the challenges that an author must deal with is that of producing a work that is up to date.

Download or read book Advances in Structural Adhesive Bonding written by David A. Dillard and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-03-31 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adhesive bonding is often effective, efficient, and often necessary way to join mechanical structures. This important book reviews the most recent improvements in adhesive bonding and their wide-ranging potential in structural engineering.Part one reviews advances in the most commonly used groups of structural adhesives with chapters covering topics such as epoxy, polyurethane, silicone, cyanoacrylate, and acrylic adhesives. The second set of chapters covers the various types of adherends and pre-treatment methods for a range of structural materials such as metals, composites and plastics. Chapters in Part three analyse methods and techniques with topics on joint design, life prediction, fracture mechanics and testing. The final group of chapters gives useful and practical insights into the problems and solutions of adhesive bonding in a variety of hostile environments such as chemical, wet and extreme temperatures. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Advances in structural adhesive bonding is a standard reference for structural and chemical engineers in industry and the academic sector. - Reviews advances in the most commonly used groups of structural adhesives including epoxy, silicone and acrylic adhesives - Examines key issues in adhesive selection featuring substrate compatibility and manufacturing demands - Documents advances in bonding metals, plastics and composites recognising problems and limitations

Download or read book Yvain written by Chretien de Troyes and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1987-09-10 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twelfth-century French poet Chrétien de Troyes is a major figure in European literature. His courtly romances fathered the Arthurian tradition and influenced countless other poets in England as well as on the continent. Yet because of the difficulty of capturing his swift-moving style in translation, English-speaking audiences are largely unfamiliar with the pleasures of reading his poems. Now, for the first time, an experienced translator of medieval verse who is himself a poet provides a translation of Chrétien’s major poem, Yvain, in verse that fully and satisfyingly captures the movement, the sense, and the spirit of the Old French original. Yvain is a courtly romance with a moral tenor; it is ironic and sometimes bawdy; the poetry is crisp and vivid. In addition, the psychological and the socio-historical perceptions of the poem are of profound literary and historical importance, for it evokes the emotions and the values of a flourishing, vibrant medieval past.
