Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Commercial Colleges in Germany The following paper owes its existence in a large measure firstly to President John H. Finley of the College of the City of New York, who by his kind interest greatly encouraged the writer in making an extended study of the commercial colleges in Germany, Switzerland and Paris during the summer of 1912; secondly to Professor Walter E. Clark, also of the same College, who by his valuable suggestions as to form and subject matter was instrumental in changing this paper from a meagre report to its present form. The writer takes pleasure in expressing his sincere gratitude to these two gentlemen. Grateful mention must furthermore be made of the extraordinary courtesies received at the hands of the directors of the several commercial colleges, notably of Director Christian Eckert, Dr. phil. et jur. of Cologne, Professor Dr. B. Freudenthal and Professor Dr. F. Panzer, both of Frankfort, and Privy Councillor Professor Dr. Georg Kerschensteiner, Royal Councillor of Studies, city school commissioner and president of the "Kuratorium" of the Commercial College in Munich. They have not only supplied the writer with all desired information and latest material, but also have permitted him to enjoy unexpected privileges which have been a source of great pleasure and benefit. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Industrial and Commercial Schools of the United States and Germany: A Comparative Study The conception of this work dates from the autumn of 1907, when the author was a member of the faculty of the State Normal School, Bowling Green, Ky. At that time, the author received a commission from Governor Beckham of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, "to investigate and report on the German School System to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction." The study and investigation covered a period of two and one-half years. Besides visiting the schools in all of the leading German States, the author enjoyed the exceptional privilege of pursuing a regular course on the purposes and methods of the continuation schools of Prussia, which course was given in the summer of 1909 in Berlin by Dr. Kuhne of the Prussian Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The results of this investigation were first published in Germany in October, 1910, under the title, Die deutschen gewerblichen und kaufmannischen Fortbildungs-und Fachschulen und die industriellen und kommerziellen Schulen in den Vereinigten Staaten, Ein Vergleich (Leipzig). This work has been used as the basis of the present volume, though certain material additions have been made since the original issue. Download or read book Introduction to Commercial German Classic Reprint written by Francis Coverley Smith and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-24 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to Commercial German Few boys have experience or imagination enough to enter intelligently into the higher commercial technique. They do not, for in stance, attach any real meaning to bills of exchange, or charter-parties, or bills of lading. Such subjects as these are therefore best left to the practical training of the office. Very few schools can afford, and it is for other reasons not desirable, wholly to separate boys intended for commerce from those intended for professions. Under these circumstances a compromise is inevitable, and in this book an attempt is made for the first time to suggest reasonable terms. On the one hand, all boys may well gain a working knowledge of German by means of a more useful vocabulary and a less complicated grammar than are usually presented in school-books. On the other hand, we may well abandon that higher technique which, even when described in English. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Commercial Education in Germany

Download or read book Commercial Education in Germany written by Frederic Ernest Farrington and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Commercial Education in Germany In 1850 Germany was an agricultural nation occupying a position of relatively little significance in the industrial world. In 1910 its foreign trade was second only to that of Great Britain, and the time is not very remote when, in all probability, England will no longer be the foremost commercial nation of the world. Yet the major portion of this marvelous development of Germany has occurred since 1884. In 1882 agriculture occupied the attention of 19,225,455 of the population of the German Empire. Twenty-five years later, in 1907, this number had decreased to 17,681,176, a loss of approximately eight per cent. During this same period the industrial population had increased from 16,058,080 to 26,386,537, a gain of more than sixty-four per cent. At the same time the expansion of commercial activity was even more pronounced, growing from 4,531,080 to 8,276,239 participants. Book excerpt: Excerpt from German Commercial Practice Connected With the Export and Import Trade to and From Germany, the German Colonies, and the Countries Where German Is the Recognised Language of Commerce, Vol. 2 The commercial series of modern language handbooks is the first of its kind, and has been designed and written with a. View to aiding the maintenance and development of British commerce in foreign markets. The series is intended for the use of commercial students and traders. It deals with the French, German, and Spanish languages as they are applied in actual commerce, and practically the whole of the matter contained in the books is drawn from real business, the series of letters and the documents having been used in actual foreign trade transactions. The books are the result (a) of much educational experience in connection with a scheme of commercial education on the one hand, and, on the other hand, (b) of eighteen years of practical experience in connection with several large shipping houses both at home and abroad. Every endeavour has been made throughout to present the matter in such a manner that its influence may be thoroughly educational, if regarded as a mental training of a specialist type. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Nation's Need: Chapters on Education Own case. Accordingly most men, and most women too, have views on education, tinged as a rule with reaction against the system to which they were sub jected. A second cause of dissatisfaction arises from the visible imperfections of the systems at work among us. Business men have for years been telling us that when they want correspondence clerks to write their foreign letters they find the product Of the German school more useful than that of the English school. The heads of great industries proclaim that they are handicapped in competition with German industries of the same class by the better scientific equipment of the specialists whom the Germans em ploy. Our universities, old and new, alike depend for the bulk of their text books in all subjects of study on the German universities. Whether the student deals with Greek or Latin, with modern languages, or even with English, with chemistry or with geography, he must have recourse to the works of German profes sors. The demands made on the schools by reformers are Of every variety. The public schools are criticized by one set of observers for the narrowness Of their curriculum; by another for the inefficiency of their instruction; by a third for their devotion to outdoor games. The board schools are condemned by some for giving instruction without forming Character, and by others for the lack Of thoroughness in their in struction.
