Download or read book Benedict s Rule written by Terrence G. Kardong and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2016-03-25 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Benedict's Rule: A Translation and Commentary is the first line-by-line exegesis of the entire Rule of Benedict written originally in English. This full commentary - predominately a literary and historical criticism - is based on and includes a new translation and is accompanied by essays on Benedict's spiritual doctrine. A monk who has striven to live according to the Rule of Benedict for thirty-five years, Father Kardong relates it to modern monastic life while examining the sources (Cassian, Augustine, and Basil) Benedict used to establish his Rule. Overviews - summaries of notes, source criticism, or structural criticism - follow some chapters, and a large bibliography of the current scholarship and source references are also included. Benedict's Rule: A Translation and Commentary also includes the Latin text of the Regula Benedicti. This reference work is invaluable to libraries and to those who are called to interpret the Rule. It will be opened again and again. Indexed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Passage to India written by Enrico Beltramini and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-11-17 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abhishiktānanda (also known as Henri le Saux OSB) is among the most studied Roman Catholic expatriates in India. His life and work have been investigated mainly in the fields of spirituality and interreligious dialogue. While his search for the spiritual awakening is well known, however, less known is his effort to reawaken the sacramental sensibility within the Roman Catholic Church. No scholar has, in fact, extensively analyzed Abhishiktānanda’s understanding of issues surrounding nature and the supernatural. In this book, the focus is primarily on Abhishiktānanda’s concern for the sacramental character of all created existence in terms of the connection between the ecclesial character of his spiritual search and the underlying theme of his theological and literary writings. While the scope of this study is limited, it nonetheless subjects Abhishiktānanda to an interpretative turn by proposing a reinterpretation of him as primarily a product of mid-twentieth century French Roman Catholicism in transition from the reigning neo-Scholasticism to the theology of ressourcement.

Download or read book The Incomparable God written by Brent A. Strawn and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “My Lord! There is no one like you among the gods!” Attempting to describe the nature of God often prompts the exclamation of the psalmist—that God is unlike anyone or anything else. And yet the claim is not simply the overflow of an adoring heart: God’s incomparability is a truth lodged deep within Christian Scripture. In The Incomparable God, Old Testament scholar Brent Strawn offers thoughtful insight into this theological mystery. This volume collects eighteen of Strawn’s most provocative essays on the nature of God, several of which are published for the first time here. Strawn covers the following topics: • the complex portrayal of God in Genesis • God’s mercy in Exodus • poetic description of God in the Psalms • the Trinity in both testaments • pedagogy of the Old Testament • integration of faith and scholarship Encompassing close readings of Scripture, biblical-theological argument, and considerations of praxis, The Incomparable God is essential reading for Old Testament scholars and students.
