Download or read book COMMENT DEVENIR INVISIBLE written by GODFROY BOURSIQUOT and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HOW TO BECOME INVISIBLE. Whenever I could, being the good old journalist that I am, I would write about what I've experienced and what I've observed Being an immigrant who did not speak the language of my new home, but was educated in my native country, I know first-hand about being misjudged and dismissed. Immigrants try their best to fit in, going against the reality of exclusion in all its forms: social, economic and cultural. The challenge for newcomers is not just to find a job, but to find a purpose for this new life, the right cause worthy of fighting for, and a way to contribute. People immigrate to America from around the world with a preconceived vision that is very far from the reality of their evolving new life. I was one of them. Leaving your native country for whatever reason and trying to make it in another is obviously not easy because the culture, language, and traditions are so different. Unfamiliarity and the sense of being alone, away from loved ones, plus the desire to go back home, constantly permeate your thinking. Knowing that it is not feasible is heartbreaking. It is the people you meet along the way that can unknowingly give you the strength to continue. Each new person you meet brings something to the table, each one like a piece of a puzzle that all together forms a beautiful picture; each one trusting that whatever they contribute is unique and important so things can go smoothly. This realization keeps you going, especially at work, performing tasks that you've never done before. My eyes are closed and my pen struggles to release memory to share the experience of climbing the stairs of life's lessons. If you are climbing, it is always good to look back without asking others to have pity on your struggle. Climbing the stairs of life requires courage to take the steps one by one with peace and love. The days go by and the silence is still there: we work, look, listen, meditate, and observe while there is time. Being an observer is like a lesson of wisdom with flexible rules, giving you the opportunity to become invisible while you learn and grow. I started my first job in the kitchen, carrying the food as well as washing dishes. Under the quiet gaze of my supervisor, while performing my duties, I observed and reflected about all the people around me - coworkers, supervisors, and the clients we were there to serve. Sometimes life's circumstances force us to stay behind the curtains, But this becomes a place of observation that is enriching. Godfroy Boursiquot

Download or read book Narratives of the Therapeutic Encounter written by Susan Bainbrigge and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-27 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays explores the ways in which talking therapies have been depicted in twentieth century and contemporary narratives (life-writings, fiction and poetry) in French. This vibrant corpus of francophone literary engagements of therapy has so far been widely unexplored, but it offers rich insights into the connections between literature and psychoanalysis. As the number of autobiographical and fictional depictions of the therapeutic encounter is still on the rise, these creative outputs raise pressing questions: why do narratives of the therapeutic encounter continue to fascinate writers and readers? What do these works tell us about the particular culture and history in which they are written? What do they tell us about therapeutic and other human encounters? The volume highlights the important role that the creative arts have played in offering representations and explorations of our minds, our relationships, and our mental health, or more pressingly, ill-health. The volume’s focus is not only on the patient’s experience as expressed via the creative act and as counterweight to the practitioner’s “case study”, but more specifically on the therapeutic encounter, specifically the relationship between therapist and patient. The contributors here engage with ideas and methodologies within contemporary psychoanalytic thought, including, but not limited to, those of Sigmund Freud, Melanie Klein, André Green, Julia Kristeva, Jacques Lacan, and Donald Winnicott, highlighting the dynamic research culture that exists in this field and maintaining a dialogue between the humanities and various therapeutic disciplines. Narratives of the Therapeutic Encounter combines the analysis of psychoanalytic and fictional texts to explore the implications that arise from the space between the participants in therapy, including creative and aesthetic inspirations, therapeutic potentials, and ethical dilemmas.
Download or read book Reflections and Recipes Revealed written by D.S.R and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-02-06 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this concise, candid and compelling book, immigrants from over a dozen countries reveal some of their experiences while learning English in the United States. Immigrants come to the Land of Freedom for various reasons. The students who have agreed to share their experiences all came here as service members, spouses of soldiers or relatives of someone affiliated with the military. Although some have earned degrees in their countries, they are hesitant to interact or speak for fear of being misunderstood or ridiculed because of their inability to speak or understand English. Difficulties associated with obtaining employment and communicating effectively surface because of the language barrier. This barrier diminishes their self esteem and alters their attitudes. There are those who have actually returned to their countries out of frustration. In this book, these are the voices of those students who decided to stay and immerse themselves into the learning process. They believe they can acquire the language skills and customs necessary to participate and contribute in some measure to their families and society. Additionally, they decided to share some of delectable dishes which dominate their domains. With cuisine, there is no language barrier.
