Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book excerpt: Since the 1973 OPEC oil crisis, the rise of imported crude oil prices, and the questionable availability of petroleum supplies, the United States has been forced to investigate liquid-fuel alternatives. Alcohol fuels, including methanol and ethanol, offer the most realistic near-term potential as gasoline extenders or substitutes. This book is the

Book Alternative Fuels and Advanced Combustion Techniques as Sustainable Solutions for Internal Combustion Engines

Download or read book Alternative Fuels and Advanced Combustion Techniques as Sustainable Solutions for Internal Combustion Engines written by Akhilendra Pratap Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-15 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph covers different aspects related to utilization of alternative fuels in internal combustion (IC) engines with a focus on biodiesel, dimethyl ether, alcohols, biogas, etc. The focal point of this book is to present engine combustion, performance and emission characteristics of IC engines fueled by these alternative fuels. A section of this book also covers the potential strategies of utilization of these alternative fuels in an energy efficient manner to reduce the harmful pollutants emitted from IC engines. It presents the comparative analysis of different alternative fuels in a variety of engines to show the appropriate alternative fuel for specific types of engines. This book will prove useful for both researchers as well as energy experts and policy makers.

Book Fuels And Chemicals From Oilseeds

Download or read book Fuels And Chemicals From Oilseeds written by Eugene B. Shultz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-02-22 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the sharp rise in petroleum prices over the past decade, interest has grown in the possible use of plant and tree seed oils as diesel fuel substitutes or extenders and as chemical feedstocks in both the industrialized and the developing world. This book represents the first attempt to bring together science, technology, and policy aspects of this topic in one volume. The authors examine the chemical, biological, and energy-related resources available in commercial and wild plant oilseeds; the status of chemical processing efforts and of engine tests using agricultural diesel fuels; the potential economic, environmental, and social impacts of more extensive oilseed utilization; and current legislation aimed at stimulating commercialization of strategic renewable agricultural resources.

Book Biodiesel Production Technologies

Download or read book Biodiesel Production Technologies written by Jorge Mario Marchetti and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biodiesel production is a very modern and technological area that is winning relevance and market due to its benefits, such as that it is biodegradable, a renewable and alternative source of fuel with less pollutants and less particle pollution. Different studies have been carried out using various oils as raw material, different alcohol as well as different catalysts, homogeneous ones such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sulphuric acid and supercritical fluids, and heterogeneous ones such as solid resins and enzymes as well as new technologies that are being developed every day. This book discusses the global energy situation in regard to the biodiesel industry, as well as a specific focus on operational conditions, kinetics model and economic comparison in order to see if they could be used as profitable alternatives.

Book Powertrain Systems for a Sustainable Future

Download or read book Powertrain Systems for a Sustainable Future written by Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-12-04 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transport sector continues to shift towards alternative powertrains, particularly with the UK Government’s focus on ending the sale of petrol and diesel passenger cars by 2030 and increasing support for alternatives. Despite this announcement, the internal combustion could continue to play a significant role both in the passenger car market through the use of hybrids and sustainable low carbon fuels including hydrogen, as well as a key role in other sectors such as heavy-duty vehicles and off-highway applications across the globe. The contributions presented at the International Conference on Powertrain Systems for a Sustainable Future 2023 (London, UK, 29- 30 November 2023) focus on the internal combustion engine’s role in net-zero transport as well as covering developments in the wide range of propulsion systems available (electric, hydrogen internal combustion engines and fuel cells, sustainable fuels etc) and their associated powertrains. To achieve a sustainable future for transport across the globe we will need to deploy all technologies and so, to help understand how these might fit together, life-cycle analysis of future powertrain systems and energy will also be included. Powertrain Systems for a Sustainable Future provides a forum for engine, fuels, e-machine, fuel cell and powertrain experts to look closely at developments in powertrain technology required to meet the demands of the net-zero future and global competition in all sectors of the road transportation, off-highway, marine and stationary power industries.
