Book Combined Bird Control Techniques and Analysis Relative to Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard BASH

Download or read book Combined Bird Control Techniques and Analysis Relative to Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard BASH written by Jelle DeBoer and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All US Air Force bases have a potential for bird-aircraft strike hazards. The seriousness of such a hazard is dependent on the following criteria existing in each specific airdrome environment, either singularly or in combinations: (1) Number and/or size of birds in the environment; (2) time (day, month, season or year); (3) airdrome operation (mission); (4) control techniques enforced (direct or indirect). The report addresses problems encountered on four USAF bases, the recommendations made for direct control techniques, and the results obtained on some of these bases. The report stresses the importance of specificity associated with each Air Force operational problem involving bird hazards.

Book Study of Avian Control with Engineered Biopsychological Approach

Download or read book Study of Avian Control with Engineered Biopsychological Approach written by Ali Rezvani and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bird aircraft strike hazard is a serious threat for airlines all around the world. Many damages and crashes are reported by airports for bird strike. Huge amount of capital are spent for this event annually in respect of aircraft structure damages. Although bird in comparison with aircraft has very less weight, the speed of aircraft is very high that imposes a high force. The combination of velocity and mass causes the proportion of damage in an accident that called Kinetic Energy. Therefore a huge damage on the structure of aircrafts is caused by the combination of the speed and high force by bird strike. So far the current ways to prevent or reduce this event is costly. Moreover, it is impossible to avoid these accidents completely. Many useful methods have been applied that all based on physiological orientation such as bird monitoring, bird avoidance models, real time bird strike warning system and frightening techniques. However, all of these methods face with a severe problem, which is bird desensitization. In this work, the biopsychological approach is presented to help in mitigating the bird strike.

Book Bird Strike

Download or read book Bird Strike written by Reza Hedayati and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2015-09-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bird strikes are one of the most dangerous threats to civil and military flight safety: between 1960 and 2014, they were responsible for the destruction of approximately 150 civil aircraft and the deaths of 271 people. Bird Strike presents a summary of the damage imposed on the aviation industries by their avian counterparts. This book first presents and analyzes the statistics obtained from bird strike databases and offers various methods for minimizing the overall probability of bird-strike events. The next chapters explore how to analyze the ability of aero-engine critical structures to withstand bird-strike events by implementing reliable experimental, theoretical, and numerical methods. Finally, the book investigates the impact of bird strikes on different components of aircrafts, such as the metal fuselage, composite fuselage, engines, wings, and tail, and proposes two new bird models, with explanations of their use. Provides up-to-date information for aviation staff and researchers working on aircraft safety Offers comprehensive investigations on all the statistical, theoretical, experimental, and numerical aspects of bird strike Includes studies carried out on bird strike and provides the reader with the important findings of each paper

Book Bird Strike in Aviation

Download or read book Bird Strike in Aviation written by Ahmed F. El-Sayed and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-05-29 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundbreaking Handbook Offers Detailed Research and Valuable Methodology to Address Dangerous and Costly Aviation Hazard Though annual damages from bird and bat collisions with aircraft have been estimated at $400 million in the United States and up to $1.2 billion in commercial aviation worldwide and despite numerous conferences and councils dedicated to the issue, very little has been published on this expensive and sometimes-lethal flying risk. Bird Strike in Aviation seeks to fill this gap, providing a comprehensive guide to preventing and minimizing damage caused by bird strike on aircraft. Based on a thorough and comprehensive examination of the subject, Dr. El-Sayed offers different approaches to reducing bird strikes, including detailed coverage of the three categories necessary for such reduction, namely, awareness/education, bird management (active and passive control), and aircraft design. In addition, the text discusses the importance of cooperation between airplanes, airports and air traffic authorities as well as testing methods necessary for certification of both aircraft frame and engine. Other notable features include: Statistics and analyses for bird strikes with both civil and military helicopters as well as military fixed wing aircrafts, including annual costs, critical flight altitudes, critical parts of aircraft, distance from air base and specifics of date and timing Thorough review and analysis all fatal bird strike accidents and most non-fatal accidents since 1905, the first book to provide such a reference The use of numerical methods in analyzing historic data (ex. probability functions, finite element methods for analyzing impact on aircraft structure, experimental measurement technique for displacement, vibration, component distortion, etc.) Instruction on identification of bird species (using visual, microscopic, and DNA evidence) and details of bird migration to aid air traffic control in avoiding scenarios likely to result in collision With its wealth of statistical data, innovative research, and practical suggestions, Bird Strike in Aviation will prove a vital resource for researchers, engineers and graduate students in aerospace engineering/manufacturing or ornithology, as well as for military and civilian pilots and flight crew or professionals in aviation authorities and air traffic control.

Book Annotated Bibliography of Bird Hazards to Aircraft

Download or read book Annotated Bibliography of Bird Hazards to Aircraft written by Jeffrey Short and published by . This book was released on 1998-03-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 30 years, much progress has been made to address the hazards proposed by birds to aircraft by the military, the aerospace industry, and international working groups. In an effort to "jump start" those researchers with bird hazard problems, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory has consolidated into a single document a significant portion of the literature on bird/aircraft interactions. This annotated bibliography of bird hazards to aircraft, termed ABBHA, is a compilation of citations with abstracts on a wide range of related topics such as bird strike tolerance engineering, bird hazard management and control, bird strike avoidance, and bird remains identification. ABBHA is available electronically and can be used with various word processing or bibliography management software. Computerization of the ABBHA reduces distribution costs, allows for frequent updates, and helps users to locate similar references on topics of interest through keyword "searches." The ABBHA citations included in this report include working papers published in the proceedings of the Bird Strike Committees of Europe, Canada, and the United States.

Book Bird aircraft Strike Hazards

Download or read book Bird aircraft Strike Hazards written by Douglas N. Meeking and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents results of research and analysis of available information on various aspects of the hazard that birds pose to aircraft. Most of the information is derived from United States and Canadian sources with a focus on civilian commercial aviation. The bird strike hazard is described in terms of those bird species and types of aircraft most commonly involved, as well as the operational, temporal, spatial, and regulatory aspects of incidents recorded. A mean annual strike rate is estimated along with the rate of damage to aircraft. Costs related to aircraft/bird collisions are estimated on the basis of defined categories that include direct, indirect, ancillary, catastrophic, and total costs. Aspects of risk management are discussed in the context of the Canadian airport operational and regulatory environments. Recommendations for future management direction and emphases in research and development are provided.
