Book Combined Adaptive Power Rate Control in CDMA Systems

Download or read book Combined Adaptive Power Rate Control in CDMA Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, combined power and rate adaptations in the reverse channel of a multicell CDMA cellular system over a Nakagami-Lognormal frequency selective fading channel are considered. Imperfect power control, user traffic distribution, Intracell interference, co-channel interference, a RAKE receiver and spatial diversity are also considered. Numerical results obtained by Monte Carlo simulation show that power and rate adaptations result in an increase of the system capacity and prolong the mobile station's battery life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Dissertation proposes novel adaptive power control and rate change schemesand investigates the performance of a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA)system in conjunction with these adaptive techniques. In these schemes, thetransmit power and rate are adapted to the variations of the fading channel using adaptivethresholds based on the probability distribution function (pdf) of the predicted mobilechannel power values. We define a policy similar to the traditional power control technique withthresholds except that the thresholds are set based on several regions of operation in ourAdaptive Transmitter Power Control (TPC) and Adaptive Seamless Rate Change (SRC)schemes. These regions are defined by means of the probability distribution function(pdf) of the total average channel power. The pdf is initially constructed based on thehistory of the predicted channel power values derived from the long-range predictionalgorithm. These regions can be defined such that the system operates at a constant ratioof energy per bit over noise power. In a 1-user model with one channel path, the pdf of the channel power would bean exponential or chi-square function with 2 degrees of freedom. However, in a W-CDMAsystem, normally the rake receiver has several fingers. That is, at the receiver, the system either estimates or predicts the channel coefficients at each rake finger andperforms maximal ratio combining by multiplying each finger with its conjugate or chooses the ones with the highest energy and performs maximal ratio combining on theselected fingers. In a two-user system where the multi-access interference is modeled as theStandard Gaussian Approximation (SGA), the system performance and error probabilityof our W-CDMA system becomes similar to the one for our one-user system. Consequently, in a single user detector system, when all users adopt a similar policy fortheir adaptive power and rate control, the average total Multi-Access Interference (MAI)will be reduced. Th.

Book Adaptive WCDMA

Download or read book Adaptive WCDMA written by Savo G. Glisic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-07-25 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is one type of multiple access system used in radio communication. Other multiple access methods include TDMA, FDMA, etc. WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) is the main air interface used for third generation mobile communication systems - UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) and is characterised by a wider band than CDMA. WCDMA uses a wider radio band than CDMA, which was used for 2G systems, and has a high transfer rate and increased system capacity and communication quality by statistical multiplexing, etc. WCDMA efficiently utilises the radio spectrum to provide a maximum data rate of 2 Mbit/s. Third generation mobile communication systems are scheduled for operational startup in Japan and Europe in 2001-2002. Applying high-speed data transfer and state-of-the-art radio terminal technology, third generations systems enable multimedia and are currently in the process of being standardised under 3GPP. Among the three types of system to be standardised (i.e. WCDMA, MC-CDMA, UTRA TDD), Japan and Europe will adopt WCDMA in a strategy to take the lead through superior service. This volume will cover the latest theoretical principles of WCDMA and explain why these principles are used in the standards. Starting with a general overview, the more advanced material is then gradually introduced providing an excellent roadmap for the reader. * Presents comprehensive coverage of the theoretical and practical aspects of WCDMA * Provides a detailed roadmap by presenting the material step-by-step for readers from differing backgrounds * Systematically presents the latest results in the field Ideal for Engineers, academics and postgraduate students involved in research and development, engineers involved in management and administration.

Book Power Control in Wireless Cellular Networks

Download or read book Power Control in Wireless Cellular Networks written by Mung Chiang and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2008 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transmit power in wireless cellular networks is a key degree of freedom in the management of interference, energy, and connectivity. Power control in both the uplink and downlink of a cellular network has been extensively studied, especially over the last 15 years, and some of the results have enabled the continuous evolution and significant impact of the digital cellular technology. This survey provides a comprehensive discussion of the models, algorithms, analysis, and methodologies in this vast and growing literature. It starts with a taxonomy of the wide range of power control problem formulations, and progresses from the basic formulation to more sophisticated ones. When transmit power is the only set of optimization variables, algorithms for fixed SIR are presented first, before turning to their robust versions and joint SIR and power optimization. This is followed by opportunistic and non-cooperative power control. Then joint control of power together with beamforming pattern, base station assignment, spectrum allocation, and transmit schedule is surveyed one-by-one. Throughout the survey, we highlight the use of mathematical language and tools in the study of power control, including optimization theory, control theory, game theory, and linear algebra. Practical implementations of some of the algorithms in operational networks are discussed in the concluding section. As illustrated by the open problems presented at the end of most chapters, in the area of power control in cellular networks, there are still many under-explored directions and unresolved issues that remain theoretically challenging and practically important.

Book Wireless Communications

Download or read book Wireless Communications written by Savo G. Glisic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), within a given time frame a particular user is allowed to transmit within a given time slot. This technique is used in most of the second-generation digital mobile communication systems. In Europe the system is known as GSM, in USA as DAMPS and in Japan as MPT. In Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) every user is using a distinct code so that it can occupy the same frequency bandwidth at the same time with other users and still can be separated on the basis of low correlation between the codes. These systems like IS-95 in the USA are also developed and standardized within the second generation of the mobile communication systems. CDMA systems within a cellular network can provide higher capacity and for this reason they become more and more attractive. At this moment it seems that both TDMA and CDMA remain viable candidates for application in future systems. Wireless Communications: TDMA versus CDMA provides enough information for correct understanding of the arguments in favour of one or other multiple access technique. The final decision about which of the two techniques should be employed will depend not only on technical arguments but also on the amount of new investments needed and compatibility with previous systems and their infrastructures. Wireless Communications: TDMA versus CDMA comprises a collection of specially written contributions from the most prominent specialists in wireless communications in the world today and presents the major, up to date, issues in this field. The material is grouped into four chapters: Communication theory, covering coding and modulation, Wireless communications, Antenna & Propagation and Advanced Systems & Technology. The book describes clearly the issues and presents the information in such a way that informed decisions about third generation wireless systems can be taken. It is essential reading for all researchers, engineers and managers working in the field of Wireless Communications.
