Download or read book Imagery from Genesis in Holocaust Memoirs written by Deborah Lee Prescott and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the life stories of Holocaust survivors, biblical imagery can be invoked to explicate the unexplainable, to make real the unreal. This text examines the role of Genesis in the autobiographies of survivors. Three main concerns converge: the literary nature of Biblical allusion, the contextual history of the Holocaust, and Midrashic considerations that arise from biblical reference. Chapters examine references to Adam and Eve's expulsion from paradise, Noah's Ark, the Tower of Babel, the Akeda, Jacob's struggle with the angel, and Cain's murder of Abel.

Download or read book The Image of the Black in Jewish Culture written by Abraham Melamed and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolving image of the Black in the history of Jewish culture is being traced here in the conceptual framework of recent post-modern theories of the 'other'. The study focuses on the mechanisms by which an ethno-religious minority group considered by the dominant majority to be the inferior 'other' identifies its own inferior other. While until recently most scholarly attention has been devoted to the attitudes towards the Jews as 'other', this is the first comprehensive discussion of the attitudes of the Jews to their own 'others'.
Download or read book Musical Illuminations of Genesis Narratives written by Helen Leneman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the stories of Genesis in music, showing how musical settings can illuminate many of the Bible's most noted tales. Helen Leneman studies oratorios, operas and songs (as well as their librettos) to shed light on how Genesis has been understood and experienced over time. Examining an extensive range of musical settings of stories from the book of Genesis, Leneman offers an overview of chiefly 19th and 20th century musical engagements with this biblical text. Leneman first discusses how Eve's inner thoughts are explored by noted French composers Jules Massenet and Gabriel Fauré. The text then enters the deep waters of Noah's flood in examination of several compositions, including two unusual settings by Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten, as well as more conventional settings by Saint-Saëns and Donizetti. Two major 19th century oratorio settings of Abraham's story by lesserknown German composers Martin Blumner and Karl Mangold provide fascinating illuminations of the Abraham narratives, whereas parts of Rebecca's story are found in works by César Franck, Ferdinand Hiller, and most unusually, by a French woman composer, Célanie Carissan. Finally, Leneman shows how Joseph's story was set in numerous oratorios (including by Handel) but that one of the most important works based on his story is an opera by 18th century French composer Etienne Méhul. In addition to discussing these larger 19th century works, Leneman also examines several interesting atonal 20th century works based on the stories of Eve and the Flood, shedding new light on the history of the interpretation of the Book of Genesis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and how the Arabs and Europeans took these Afrikan Religious Belief Systems from ancient Egypt, North Afrika and used them during The Trans-Sahara Afrikan Slave Trade by the Arabs in the name of Allah, and followed by The Transatlantic Afrikan Slave Trade by the Europeans in the name of Jesus, to enslave the bodies, minds, and souls of the Afrikan Race. This book is about the Jesus Deception that has been passed on down through history by European historians, that is still being taught around the world today. This book takes a provocative intellectual, scholastic, historical, cultural, and sociological look at the Bible. This book identifies the names of the translators of the King James Bible of 1611 A. D., and when the chapters and verses in the Bible were created and who created them. The purpose of this book is to expose the historical, cultural, sociological, religious and theological lies of the Europeans and the Arabs. This book reveals the truth of the origination of The Bible, as There Is No Religion Higher Than The Truth. Join me in an intellectual odyssey through time. Download or read book Judaism s Life Changing Ideas a Weekly Reading of the Jewish Bible written by Jonathan Sacks and published by Maggid. This book was released on 2020-08 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Judaism? A religion? A faith? A way of life? A set of beliefs? A collection of commands? A culture? A civilization? It is all these, but it is emphatically something more. It is a way of thinking about life, a constellation of ideas. One might think that the ideas Judaism introduced into the world have become part of the common intellectual heritage of humankind, at least of the West. Yet this is not the case. Some of them have been lost over time; others the West never fully understood. Yet these ideas remain as important as ever before, and perhaps even more so. In this inspiring work, Rabbi Sacks introduces his readers to one Life-Changing Idea from each of the weekly parashot.
Download or read book Genesis 1 11 written by Anwarul Azad and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2022-09-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis is the book of beginnings; and creation begins with light. Most religious people live with shuttered windows, receiving light only from their own people and their own tradition. Genesis 1–11 calls us to recognize all peoples as created by God and under the rainbow covenant of his light. This commentary opens windows on seeds of truth from Genesis 1-11 which are planted in the various environments “in front of the text” – including the New Testament, rabbinic tradition, the Qur’an, and Bangladeshi culture. It examines those seeds in their original seedbed, discerning how their truths will unfurl from the fragrant Genesis 1-11 bud of theology through the blessings given to Eve, Noah, and Abraham. Windows on the Text is a ground-breaking Bible commentary series written by followers of Jesus in Muslim contexts. It develops biblical insight in deliberate conversation with the Qur’an, the Hadith, and local Islamic cultures. Confi dent that the Bible in its entirety speaks directly into Muslim contexts, it opens new windows into the holy word of God to equip and empower believers to live out their faith in loving service and clear communication within their communities.

Book excerpt: After completing my first book, The Holy Scriptures Book of Poems, I was inspired to write another book. Initially, I thought of trying to write several children stories of the more known Bible characters. I also wanted to add more detail and depth to the stories. After I completed the stories of the Bible characters I had set out to write about, I had the idea to put them all together in one book. That is how this book came to be. I hope you enjoy it.
Download or read book The Bible Is The Black Man s History book written by Mawuli and published by Neduson Research Services. This book was released on 2016-07-01 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you ever wanted IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE that black people wrote the Bible, you are looking at it! Anyone or group of people can claim to be the Lost Tribes of Israel. That is easy. But making such a claim does not mean it is true. Therefore, what separates the GENUINE Israelites from the wannabes is the EVIDENCE or PROOF they provide to support their claim. Sadly, there are reckless black people making such claims but when challenged for proof, they have nothing to show and come up short. Consequently, their blundering undermines our genuine Hebrew identity and turns it into a joke. Thus, because of their rash behaviour they cause huge damage to our black history. This book aims to arrest the damage done to our heritage by these less informed black people. It does so by providing the necessary evidence, which proves that large sections of the black race are the true Israelites. The PROOF/EVIDENCE provided in this book is quite unique. It is unlike anything you have read before and will ever read anywhere else. Also, it is comprehensive and designed to forever silence the critics. You will read information that nobody else knows but only the direct descendants of the ancient Israelites knows about. Thus, proving conclusively that we are indeed who we claim to be - the true children of Israel.
