Book Architectural Conservation Studio

Download or read book Architectural Conservation Studio written by Calogero Bellanca and published by Sapienza Università Editrice. This book was released on 2020-01-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a series of reflections on the study of architectural preexistences that have matured during the almost thirty-five years of study and research in Italy and Europe. Furthermore, it shows how the discipline of restoration of monuments is all based in architecture, intended in its many-faceted meanings. The methodical approach to the restoration of historic architecture consists in the historical-critical analysis, central nucleus of the study of architecture and is composed by specific in-depth thematic sessions (the historical iconography; the analysis of the constructive features; the constructive model; the volumetric layout; metrological and proportional analysis; the theme of the figurative model; the analysis of masonry; the theme of decorations; spolia and reemployed; comparisons, analogies and differences; the reading of the architectural organism through the synthesis of the monument in time). The author and his team have collected thematic essays on key issues that have great interest not only in Italy but also abroad. From the general concepts to examples of the application of Italian consolidated restoration methodology to the analysis and conservation of historic architecture.

Download or read book Vernacular and Earthen Architecture Conservation and Sustainability written by Camilla Mileto and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 824 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vernacular architecture in general and earthen architecture in particular, with their rich variety of forms worldwide, are custodians of the material culture and identity of the peoples who built them. In addition, they are widely recognized as ancestral examples of sustainability in all their variants and interpretations, and the architecture of the present ought to learn from these when designing the sustainable architecture of the future. The conservation of these architectures – seemingly simple yet full of wisdom – is to be undertaken now given their intrinsic value and their status as genuine examples of sustainability to be learnt from and interpreted in contemporary architecture. Vernacular and earthen architecture: Conservation and Sustainability will be a valuable source of information for academics and professionals in the fields of Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Construction and Building Engineering and Architecture.

Book 50 A os en la iglesia de Roma

Download or read book 50 A os en la iglesia de Roma written by Charles Chiniquy and published by Chick Publications. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Impresiones a Colores written by Xelhua RodÉ and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Science and Art

Download or read book Science and Art written by Antonio Sgamellotti and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science and art are increasingly interconnected in the activities of the study and conservation of works of art. Science plays a key role in cultural heritage, from developing new analytical techniques for studying the art, to investigating new ways of preserving the materials for the future. Following on from the 2014 title Science and Art: The Painted Surface, this book consists of a series of chapters written together by scientists, art historians, conservators, curators and artists dedicated to conservation, execution techniques, languages and conceptual topics. Science and Art: The Contemporary Painted Surface largely covers execution techniques, material’s conservation and languages of artists, representative of twelve different countries, all protagonists of the development of innovative significant techniques and methodologies. The book opens with a focus on widely historicized artists, such as Jackson Pollock, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Baj, Piero Manzoni and Joseph Albers. Its core is dedicated to the work of major worldwide renowned living artists, in a perspective that, while considering the Sixties as the historical starting point of contemporaneity, does not neglect to offer a view on the work done in the immediately preceding years. Several interviews with artists are included. Final chapters are dedicated to contemporary design, net art, and painted surfaces in contemporary architecture. Presented in an easily readable form for a large audience, the book guides readers into new areas uncovered by the link between science and art, and will be of interest to artists, art historians and curators, as well as those who appreciate art. Reviews of Science and Art: The Painted Surface 'Science and Art provides an excellent read for art historians, who will instantly recognise the famous pieces that have been studied, while giving them insight into how a painting was constructed, what it is made from, or how the colours would have looked when they were freshly painted.' Chemistry World, 6 November 2014 'Science and Art is recommended for students, teachers, and the general public who are interested in chemistry or other sciences and art, as well as applications of the former to the latter.' J. Chem. Educ., 2016, 93(5), 810–810

Book excerpt: "Focusing on images and descriptions of movement and spectacle - everyday street activities, congregations in market piazzas, life in the Jewish ghetto and the plague hospital, papal and other ceremonial processions, public punishment, and pilgrimage routes - Rose Marie San Juan uncovers the social tensions and conflicts within seventeenth-century Roman society that are both concealed within and prompted by mass-produced representations of the city. These depictions of Rome - guidebooks, street posters, broadsheets and brochures, topographic and thematic maps, city views, and collectible images of landmarks and other famous sights - redefined the ways in which public space was experienced, controlled, and utilized, encouraging tourists, pilgrims, and penitents while constraining the activities and movements of women, merchants, dissidents, and Jews."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Tosca s Rome

    Book Details:
  • Author : Susan Vandiver Nicassio
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2002-01-15
  • ISBN : 9780226579726

Download or read book Tosca s Rome written by Susan Vandiver Nicassio and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2002-01-15 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timeless tale of love, lust, and politics, Tosca is one of the most popular operas ever written. In Tosca's Rome, Susan Vandiver Nicassio explores the surprising historical realities that lie behind Giacomo Puccini's opera and the play by Victorien Sardou on which it is based. By far the most "historical" opera in the active repertoire, Tosca is set in a very specific time and place: Rome, from June 17 to 18, 1800. But as Nicassio demonstrates, history in Tosca is distorted by nationalism and by the vehement anticlerical perceptions of papal Rome shared by Sardou, Puccini, and the librettists. To provide the historical background necessary for understanding Tosca, Nicassio takes a detailed look at Rome in 1800 as each of Tosca's main characters would have seen it—the painter Cavaradossi, the singer Tosca, and the policeman Scarpia. Finally, she provides a scene-by-scene musical and dramatic analysis of the opera. "[Nicassio] must be the only living historian who can boast that she once sang the role of Tosca. Her deep knowledge of Puccini's score is only to be expected, but her understanding of daily and political life in Rome at the close of the 18th century is an unanticipated pleasure. She has steeped herself in the period and its prevailing culture-literary, artistic, and musical-and has come up with an unusual, and unusually entertaining, history."—Paul Bailey, Daily Telegraph "In Tosca's Rome, Susan Vandiver Nicassio . . . orchestrates a wealth of detail without losing view of the opera and its pleasures. . . . Nicassio aims for opera fans and for historians: she may well enthrall both."—Publishers Weekly "This is the book that ranks highest in my estimation as the most in-depth, and yet highly entertaining, journey into the story of the making of Tosca."—Catherine Malfitano "Nicassio's prose . . . is lively and approachable. There is plenty here to intrigue everyone-seasoned opera lovers, musical novices, history buffs, and Italophiles."—Library Journal

Book Colour Studies

Download or read book Colour Studies written by Wendy Anderson and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-11-15 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents some of the latest research in colour studies by specialists across a wide range of academic disciplines. Many are represented here, including anthropology, archaeology, the fine arts, linguistics, onomastics, philosophy, psychology and vision science. The chapters have been developed from papers and posters presented at the Progress in Colour Studies (PICS12) conference held at the University of Glasgow. Papers from the earlier PICS04 and PICS08 conferences were published by John Benjamins as Progress in Colour Studies, 2 volumes, 2006 and New Directions in Colour Studies, 2011, respectively. The opening chapter of this new volume stems from the conference keynote talk on prehistoric colour semantics by Carole P. Biggam. The remaining chapters are grouped into three sections: colour and linguistics; colour categorization, naming and preference; and colour and the world. Each section is preceded by a short preface drawing together the themes of the chapters within it. There are thirty-one colour illustrations.
