This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Telesio and Morato on the Meaning of Colours' brings together the original texts with original English translations of two closely related primary sources on Renaissance colour symbolism. The first is the 'Libellus de coloribus' (Booklet on colours), the most extensive lexicon of Latin colour terminology of its time, published in Venice in 1528 by Antonio Telesio (1482-1534), who latinised his name as Antonius Thylesius. The second is 'Del significato de' colori' (On the signification of colours), the most extensive digest of current and classical colour meanings of its time, published in Venice in 1535 by Fulvio Pellegrino Morato (c. 1483-1548). They were the third and fourth books on colour to be printed in Europe. Roy Osborne is an artist, educator and historian, and author of books on colour. He was awarded the Turner Medal of the Colour Group (Great Britain) in 2003, and the Colour in Art, Design and Environment Medal of the International Colour Association in 2019.

… It is with great enthusiasm that Kermes supported this initiative hosting the studies, as though these were part of a conference, ‘ideal’ in that it never took place physically, but very much real in terms of the international plurality of its contributions, presented here thanks to lively exchange of information across frontiers … This publication is the fruit of a perfect and exemplary collaboration between curators, conservators and scientists brought together from all countries… The publication here before us provides a number of answers – let us be brave and use the word ‘definitive’ – to questions which have long been an issue of debate … Comme l’affirme ici même Sheila McTighe, toute vision plus large de la pratique de Poussin doit dorénavant prendre en compte et intégrer ces nouvelles données techniques. (Pierre Rosenberg de l’Académie française, Président-directeur honoraire du Musée du Louvre) This volume of the journal Kermes devoted to the meticulous technical analysis of several works by Nicolas Poussin, reveals the wealth of knowledge acquired through the implementation of new methods of physico-chemical analysis taken together with the detailed investigation of the handling and materials deployed during the process of creating the work of art. A number of different means have been employed in order to investigate in the greatest detail the nature of a particular pigment, its impurities, the effects of the addition of a medium as well as the effects created by mixtures … (Philippe Walter, Directeur du Laboratoire d’archéologie moléculaire et structurale, CNRS-UMR 8820, Université Pierre et Marie Curie) indice/Index: speciale – NICOLAS POUSSIN. Download or read book The Voyage of John de Verazzano written by Giovanni Da Verrazzano and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Voyage of John De Verazzano, written 1524, was a letter to King Francis the I of France by Giovanni (or John) da Verrazzano upon his exploration of North Carolina and the Pamlico Sound, which he thought was the entrance to the Pacific Ocean. His analysis resulted in one of many errors in the way North America was represented on a map; it was not fully and correctly mapped until the late 1800s. The letter, translated from its original Italian, provides an interesting insight into how the newly-discovered continent was viewed by explorers and other countries. Also included is an account, in Italian, of Verazzano's discovery of New York Harbor.GIOVANNI DA VERRAZZANO (1485-1528) was an Italian explorer of North America, the first European since the colonization of the Americas by the Norse colonies to explore the Atlantic coast. Born near Florence, he soon moved to France and started a career as a navigator, after which he was invited to explore North America by the French King Francis I. Throughout his years, he explored New York Harbor, Narragansett Bay, the coast of Maine, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, Florida, the Bahamas, and the Lesser Antilles. Verrazzano made a total of three trips, dying in 1528 after embarking on an island and being killed and eaten by the local Carib cannibals.
