Book The Color of Grace

Download or read book The Color of Grace written by Bethany Haley Williams and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-03-03 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The pain of a middle-class white woman in rural America and that of war-ravaged children in Africa find common ground in their shame, their self-loathing, and their hopelessness. Author Bethany Haley is the woman behind the non-profit organization Exile International, which nurtures rescued children--innocent little boys who are forced to kill, maim, and rape; and defenseless young girls who are abducted as sex slaves for the army. The Kony 2012 youtube sensation, which received over 100 million views in one week, brought these horrors to light. With a foreword by Katie Davis (of Kisses from Katie), Bethany shares that the steps that led to healing and hope in her own life also transform the desperate lives of children an ocean away"--

Book Compassionate Love and Ebony Grace

Download or read book Compassionate Love and Ebony Grace written by Kortright Davis and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2012 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is the Golden Rule so central in almost every culture and religion? What is it that drives human beings to do good to others? Are altruism, compassion, and forgiveness natural forms of human behavior, or do they have to be learned and practiced in the neural context of our primal instincts for survival and self-defense? These are some of the questions that lie behind the study of Compassionate Love amongst people of color. Davis explores the patterns and contours of "other-love," which he defines as a selfless regard for the well-being of others. He also examines the basis for distinctive modes of compassionate behavior enriched by "ebony grace"--a theological attribution for people of African descent. This text focuses especially on the historical, cultural, and religious heritage that inspires and empowers such attitudes, in spite of constant encounters with systemic negation, social alienation, and unrelenting racism. How is it that Black families in the home, school, and church still support, sustain, and succeed in the practice of unyielding love-in-compassion? That is the magic and mystery within contemporary Black cultural norms and moral values. This text is a powerful attempt to contribute to the debate on Christian altruism.

This outspoken Galilean would lead Christ’s church, stand strong in the face of persecution, and even refuse to waver when faced with death. Unshakable Faith is an eight-session Bible study that explores the life and teachings of the Apostle Peter. Participants will be eye witnesses to Peter’s spiritual growth as God strengthens and matures his fragile faith. They will discover eight key "faith traits" God developed in Peter as he followed Christ and learned from Him. Participants will walk with Peter as he walked with Jesus. They will learn what Peter learned. Then they’ll be challenged to apply it to their own lives. Study participants will not only gain a solid knowledge of Peter’s life and teaching, they will also build a foundation on which God can grow an unshakable faith that will weather every storm they encounter.

Book excerpt: Miracles happen today. Do you want to increase your faith? Read about miracles. True stories of God's faithfulness, love, and power are woven together with art, poetry and scripture into a tapestry made of the colors of the rainbow that demonstrate the many aspects of faith. A woman finds herself in a car accident on a lonely Nevada highway gazing at her two daughters sprawled on the road. She screams in terror for help. Someone places a white gold cross in the palm of her hand. This changes everything. "A White Gold Cross," one of the true stories found in "Faith Colors, Encounters with God in Living Faith," explores the power of faith in God to transform the outcome of a terrible crisis. This story is found in the section called White Faith, the kind of faith that strengthens the inner heart to persevere. A son prays in earnest while the emergency team from the fire station try to revive his father. After the paramedics give up and permission is granted to stop CPR, the father miraculously begins to breathe on his own. But will he survive long enough to take care of his unfinished business? This story is found under Blue Faith, the kind of faith that looks up from a dark pit to find hope. These testimonies and others, including some of the author's own experiences, are grouped into the colors of the rainbow to highlight important aspects of faith. Poems and prophetic art, intensifying the impact of the messages, are found throughout the book. Each color section concludes with a prayer to draw the reader's heart closer to God. Scriptures and colorful prophetic pictures featured in this book highlight significant attributes of faith that are bound to spark hope in God and His promises found in the Bible.

Sexy and willful, Grace McGlone is saving herself for the right man. When Henry Dante pulls into the small Wisconsin town where she works at the car wash, she instantly knows he’s the one. He knows it too. But when Grace discovers Henry has “The Planets”—a stolen set of famous Spanish diamonds—stashed in the back seat of his truck, she’s having none of it. She’s “trying for heaven,” and the ill-gotten jewels must go. And so they do, in a race across the American landscape from Chicago to Yellowstone, purusued by a savage gangster obsessed by the diamonds he thought were his. Passionate, criminal, comical, and possessing all the dark enchantment of a fairy tale, Sweet and Vicious is a modern love story shot straight from the heart of David Schickler’s miraculous imagination.
