Download or read book Colloquium on Fatigue Colloque de Fatigue Kolloquium ber Erm dungsfestigkeit written by Waloddi Weibull and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upon the request of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) the Swedish National Committee for Mechanics organized a colloquium on fatigue, which was held at the Royal Institute of Technology (Kung!. Tekniska Hogskolan) in Stock holm, May 25-27, 1955. 35 lectures were delivered, principally dealing with problems of statistical and basic nature. Among the topics were to be found statis tical theory of fatigue, cumulative damage, mechanism of fatigue, me tallurgical aspects on fatigue, velocity of fatigue cracks, fatigue at elevated temperature, and fatigue at combined stresses. Lectures were going on simultaneously in two sections. Each lecturer had 15 minutes for presentation of his communication, and afterwards 15 minutes were reserved for discussion. Abstracts of the lectures were distributed about a month before the colloquium. The colloquium was attended by 149 participants from the follow ing countries: Denmark (1), Finland (2), France (5), Germany (6), Italy (2), Netherlands (2), Norway (2), Poland (2), Saar (1), Spain (3), Sweden (100), Switzerland (1), United Kingdom (10), USA (8), USSR (3), and Yugoslavia (1). A complete list of the participants will be found below. The languages of the Colloquium were English, French, German and Italian. No lectures were delivered in Italian. Also, all contributions to the discussions have been translated to one of the first three languages. Statements and opinions advanced are always those of the individual authors or participants in the discussions.

Book Advances in Thermodynamics and Circular Thermoeconomics

Download or read book Advances in Thermodynamics and Circular Thermoeconomics written by Michel Feidt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-02-13 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on energy physics and energy efficiency discusses two essential components of energy physics: the fundamentals and the criteria. It covers the historical basis of Carnot models, the thermostatic cycles of double-function heat pumps and the optimization of thermomechanical engines, and discusses the results of various investigations, bringing together a number of previous works. The latter half of this book introduces the concept of "Circular Thermoeconomics" and assesses the physical costs of recycling waste in increasingly complex industrial processes. It then goes on to present "Relative Free Energy", allowing us to create a new mathematical theory of thermodynamic costs in order to diagnose malfunctions in thermal systems. The book shows the progression of knowledge on the existence of successive energy, power and efficiency, and pairs this with the economic aspects, which are already becoming linked to growing environmental concerns.

Book Theory of Calorimetry

    Book Details:
  • Author : W. Zielenkiewicz
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2006-01-02
  • ISBN : 0306484188

Download or read book Theory of Calorimetry written by W. Zielenkiewicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-02 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calorimetry is one of the oldest areas of physical chemistry. The date on which calorimetry came into being may be taken as 13 June 1783, the day on which Lavoisier and Laplace presented a contribution entitled ,,Memoire de la Chaleur“ at a session of the Academie Française. Throughout the existence of calorimetry, many new methods have been developed and the measuring techniques have been improved. At p- sent, numerous laboratories worldwide continue to focus attention on the development and applications of calorimetry, and a number of com- nies specialize in the production of calorimeters. The calorimeter is an instrument that allows heat effects in it to be determined by directly measurement of temperature. Accordingly, to determine a heat effect, it is necessary to establish the relationship - tween the heat effect generated and the quantity measured in the ca- rimeter. It is this relationship that unambiguously determines the mathematical model of the calorimeter. Depending on the type of ca- rimeter applied, the accuracy required, and the conditions of heat and mass transfer that prevail in the device, the relationship between the measured and generated quantities can assume different mathematical forms.

Book Lectures on Electrochemical Corrosion

Download or read book Lectures on Electrochemical Corrosion written by Marcel Pourbaix and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Workers in the field of corrosion and their students are most fortunate that a happy set of circumstances brought Dr. Marcel Pourbaix into their field in 1949. First, he was invited, while in the USA, to demonstrate at a two week visit to the National Bureau of Standards the usefulness of his electro chemical concepts to the study of corrosion. Secondly, also around the same time, Prof. H. H. Uhlig made a speech before the United Nations which pointed out the tremendous economic consequences of corrosion. Because of these circumstances, Dr. Pourbaix has reminisced, he chose to devote most of his efforts to corrosion rather than to electrolysis, batteries, geology, or any of the other fields where, one might add, they were equally valuable. This decision resulted in his establishing CEBELCOR (Centre BeIge d'Etude de la Corrosion) and in his development of a course at the Free University of Brussels entitled "Lectures on Electrochemical Corrosion." This book is the collection of these lectures translated into English.
